U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

I'm not seeing much forum chatter about the U.S. Open this year. Maybe I'm anxious to just read all about it, I guess.

I noticed the date of the U.S. Open is October 18th through the 24th. Does that mean the players meeting was last night?

Inquiring minds would like an update; an on-site report, if you will. :grin-square:

I wondered why the Carolina Open had a low turnout a week or two ago. This used to be the stepping-stone event right before the U.S. Open, and players would come from far and wide to Fast Eddie's in Goldsboro, NC. This year, I must say I did not see much by way of advertising for this tournament. In fact, I didn't even know it was happening until the thread on this forum stated they had only a handful show up for the one-pocket event. This is sad because there ain't nothing finer than a tournament in Carolina. :frown:

I did notice the U.S. Open entry fee this year went up a hundred bucks, from $500 to $600. I'm hoping they get a full field.

So, whoever is on site, please post on the forum when convenient. I went to all the pool-related websites and didn't see one word written about the U.S. Open.

This lack of pool smut is kind of depressing for the inquiring minds that gotta know! :crying:

Here's the Wikipedia article, which needs expansion, about our beloved annual event: Wikipedia Article about U.S. Open

Here's the venue site, the Chesapeake Conference Center, a non-smoking tournament, thank goodness.

Check out the cool smoking lounge outside, with a cover, just in case Mother Nature decides to rain on our pool parade.

Here's a great shot of the U.S. Open champions in attendance one year, taken by Diana Hoppe of PoolPics by Hoppe.

Each winner is given a green sweater to designate the championship achievement. The players love it.

There are some former champions that were not present for this picture, but it's still a cool shot, I think! :)

Wow! First day of the U.S. Open. :)

Hello -- hello, hello -- is there anybody in there?! [Pink Floyd song]

JAM I just wanna say, I don't know know you personally but you're awesome! I love you're enthusiasm! Keep it coming

I like the US Open Champions Picture thanks for posting it. I do not know anything about the Open

Tell Keith we would like to see him at the Derby he would definitiely help fire the place up. It could be a vacation putting down the cards for a week or so, take his eyes off the monitor. I am sure we could work up an AZ staking corporation for him if that would help.

What do you think Keith????

Do not mean to hijack your US Open thread

Thanks, JesseBfan, for the nice words. You too, Elvicash. I'll definitely tell Keith.

Okay. I'm going to relay a little joke that I just heard on the job. Though it was about baseball, I'm going to change it to pool, just while we're waiting for news about the U.S. Open. This is the first time that I have NEVER seen anything written beforehand about the U.S. Open. It's kind of sad, actually.

Oh, well. Here's the joke.

There's two friends who love playing pool against each other. They were each on a league team. Joe played for the Pocket Boys, and Bill played for the Green Cloth Warriors. :grin-square:

The two of them were strong pool enthusiasts and fans of every pool event to hit the tournament trail, like the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship.

One day, they made a pact. They said whoever dies first, the other one has to come back and tell whether there is pool in heaven or not.

Times goes by, and Joe passed away. Soon all of the Pocket Boys team were deceased, as was Bill's team mates of the Green Cloth Warriors. Bill was so sad to see his friends go, but he didn't let it stop him from going to the U.S. Open each and every year.

So, at the Chesapeake Conference Center one day, he was sitting in the bleachers sweating the pros. All of a sudden, he hears, "Hey, Bill. Hey, Bill."

He looks around and sees his long-lost buddy Joe in spirit form. Joe says, "Remember we said we'd come back?" Bill says, "Yes, of course." Joe says, "Well, I've got good news and bad news for you. The good news is that there's pool in heaven. The bad news is that you've got the first break in tomorrow's match." :grin-square:

Hey JAM, well I am here and byt the way the picture of the venue is the exact same as it is this year with the tent an all. The only difference is that the sun is not shining and its cold and miserable. Baring in mind I came from Phoenix yesterday and it was a sunny 100 degrees whenI left.
From what I can gather the matches start today at 11.00 and I will make sure I am there and I will try and give you any updates I have as I get the time.
I hope that my team the CSI American Grand Masters, Corey, Hillbilly, Earl and Schmitty all do well. I also will be rooting for 14yr old Brendan Crockett who is a memebr of CSI's latest effort to help pool "Team Next Generation" I can't mention too muchabout it yet but Team Next Generation also includes Landon Shuffet 14 and Chad Behnke 15. Anyway I will do my best to keep you updated but not sure on how much time I will have.

We tee off today at 11 AM. 216 players, a world class field! John Morra arrived late last night after the draw and didn't get in. I'm going to work!

You was just a little early for some of us folks. This is my first place I looked at this morning too. I have about 5 websites I have to check, for emails and work related stuff. I was kind of shocked when I saw a couple of threads start poppin up the psat week, about the Open too. Usually, there are a couple posted about a month or 2 in advance, by people chompin at the bit. People who are looking for advice about hotel rooms, and other general info. If there were any this year, I must have missed them. Best of luck to all of the players at the Open, what a thrill it would be to win that event.

You poor Arizona sun-loving soul. LOL! Yep, it gets chilly this time of year in this area. I'm about 3 hours north, and it's cold up here. I've already pulled my Uggs out of the closet.

You gotta good team to root for there, Mark. I hope they do you proud.

Hey, did Diana Hoppe make it this year? I was hoping she could help you with those photos you were interested in getting. She's a good source for that for sure.

Your mission, if you decide to accept it, is to give us updates, dag nab it. I want full reports -- with pictures too! :grin-square:

Have fun, Mark. I am sure you will!

One thing for sure, nobody can accuse you of being wordy, Jay!

Thanks for the brevity, but this only whets my appetite. More U.S. Open smut, please.

Any news is better than no news. Don't work too hard. Those tournament days can run long for sure.

I was up early for sure working on a job, but, dag nab it, I thought for sure I'd see all kinds of U.S. Open threads and articles on the Internet. This year, it's kind of slim pickings, I guess.

We'll have to depend on those who are on site. [Hint, hint to Jay and Mark].

Hint taken I will make surethat Jay gets on here for you with regular reports :) I will be seeing him very shortly.

And don't let Jay be the Lone Ranger, Mark. I think we all like hearing from you too, in addition to Jay! :)

I wish they'd made some kind of provision to let John Morra play. I know that you have to have rules and cut off times, but it seems like something could have been done to let him in the tournament......

I'm going to the US Open Tuesday and if I hear anything newsworthy i'll try to get on the computer at the Hampton Inn and post it. I hope to see some AZ members there so I can put a face with some of these screen names......
