I just saw on the live update page for the US Open that Jason Klatt beat Thorsten Hohmann 11-9! I've never heard of Jason Klatt and he must be a very good player if he beat Thorsten. I know a race to 11 is a short race and the break is important, but I was picking Thorsten as one of my favorites to win the US Open this year. This loss is too early for Thorsten to make it to the finals in the losers bracket. Thorsten is one of the finest players i've seen in a long time and it's not over yet for him, but he's got a big hill to climb now.....

Bartram looks like he could go a long way in this one. That was a clutch shot on that last 6 ball to get out!

Nice win for Jason. But I wouldn't consider race to 11 a short race. You definitely have to show up if you want to beat Thorsten (or Mika) in a race to 11.

V's on top of things!!

Jason Klatt did place 2nd in the Houston Open, with wins over Rafael Martinez, Sparky Ferrell, etc. He lost in the finals to Brandon Shuff, another guy still on the winner's side in the US Open...

Jason Klatt is a very strong player. It does not surprise me that he beat Thorsten (although I still would have picked Thorsten as the overall favorite in that match).

I remember the first time I watched him play was at the SML Entertainment Open in Calgary, Alberta about 4 or 5 years ago (the year Alex P. won it). I was very impressed with his game back then and he has been doing very well in a lot of tournaments since then (both pro and open). I think his game has only gone up since then. He is a very strong player who is more than capable of beating many of the top pros.

IIRC, he is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba... but now resides in the states (somebody can correct me if I'm wrong). Definitely right up there with the top Canadian pool players (Tyler Edey, Edwin Montal, Luc Salvas, Alain Martel aka. The Dancing Bear, etc....).

I think this is what's great about the U.S. Open... you never know what (or who) you're going to get.

There's probably a thousand or two guys that can beat the top players in any given set....

Not surprised.

Jason's really good.

Was lucky enough to get some cheap lessons from him in the past.

He knows his stuff.

Jason comes in to the pool room and shots drills about 2 hours a day when he is in town. They keep his own set of balls behind the counter.
He keeps a log of his shots and works on them regularly.
He wins the local 9 ball tournament most of the time he enters here, but on a race to 4 any one can win and some players here can and do beat him.
He has the talent and will to win.

Jason beat Sam Monday first round so 2 tough draws and 2 victories. Nice job Jason-Dont stop now.

Jason came through Atlanta with Sarah Rousey a few years back and he played pretty sporty. Nice quite guy and he takes care of business. He not a bad gambler either, I watched him take down a few scores in DCC. I got him and Stevie Moore as my favorites to win this.

Jason was in Cape Girardeau last weekend to play in the bar table tourny, there was alot of good players there (Matlock,Vilmont,Baraks,Hennessee,Fargo,Jeff Becklly,Andy Quinn) to name a few and Jason came threw the losers bracket to reach the finals and he and Tony Fargo decided to split. Jason was playing really well.
