I hear people talk about how it use to be before these rules, how long have they been around? I think the rules have been Texas Express for over 20 years now!

I'd say longer than 20 years. The Texas Express rules were devised by the three guys who ran the Texas Express Tour...John McChesney (deceased), Robin Adair (Rockin' Robin), and Randy Goettlicher (randyg).

I was introduced to the rules by Randy G(SPF) at the Texas Express Tour Stop in Lubbock,TX, Copper Caboose in 1990 or '91 if I remember correctly. They were in print at that time so I think it would be safe to say around 20 years. Wow, times fun when you're having flies....

LOL some of us have been around even longer than that!

Yep and I am not sure being an old fart is all that great. :frown:

I will say Texas Express changed the strategy of 9 ball. Before that 2 no hit ball in hand gave greater options when safetied. Spot shots also made the game different from ball in hand. Like many rules today, Texas Express made the game go faster. I am not saying it is a bad thing just different.

1985.

Robin was using a version of them before that....SPF=randyg

Thanks Randy, it has been a long time then, I will tell all the old guys who complain about the rules to just get over it, its been a lifetime for some. :grin-square:

Tell the "old guys" that they can go play some place with their "old" rules. Nobody said they had to use Tx Rules....SPF=randyg

PS: I am an old guy.....:-)
