I had a couple of these back around 1991.

Full splice, some butterfly, some 8 pointers. Very understated, and nice cues for the money.

Anyone have any experience with them, or know where I might find something similar now?

Thanks...

i've got a few ccs's, used and mint, that i bought from carl conlon's estate. send me a pm if you're serious -

Those are the absolute bomb. I was a friend of Carl's and miss him to this day, he was a fascinating man and unique man, as is Helmstetter. I've sent you a PM. I don't believe I've seen them before with wraps.

Thanks for the show

Kevin

dp40, these are pool cues, btw. not 3 cushion cues. difference is the shafts, these are approx 13mm tips with a pool cue taper versus the conical billiard shafts with no shaft collar. they are all full spliced, except for the solid maple at left. these are the only 5 styles that were made with pool shafts, from left to right -

solid maple, 4 point house cue style, 4 point w/ veneers, butterfly, and 8 pointer.

an 8 pointer billiard cue in this style was pictured in the front section of the 3rd edition blue book under adam cues.

the 5 cues pictured were on the cover of 2 different issues of american cueist magazine not long before they bit the dust.

dirtypool40 has dibs, he started the thread. i'll reply to pm's after i hear from him. thanks for the interest.

pic above pretty much shows it all, all the rings are the same, same butts, that's abalone inlayed in the butt.

these cues played so good they were the inspiration for my deano cues,if no one else steps up pm me

Thanks Larry!! That pic brings back memories of when I first started playing. A local named Tom Colado was a buddy of Carl's and had the "in" to get these.

I had 2 of the 3 on the right, and my runnin' buddy had the flame / butterfly one. That damned red over black, full splice look has haunted me as long as I have hit balls.

IIRC they had a wrapped and wrap-less version of each, numbering from 1-10. I think the 4 pointer was the 6, and the 8 pointer was the 8 or 10.

I loved mine, but lent them to a "buddy" who vanished back to Ohio with them, never to be seen again. The things pool players do to each other.

Anyhoo, PM inbound, thanks for the pic.

Russ (poolhustler) has one of your cues and it hits great. Its my understanding that you insert the wooden screw into the butt and that Helmstetter actually turned his screws on the lathe right out of the shaft wood?

Thanks

Kevin

i think he did

some of the wood i use for my forearms i believe would not be right to use as a pin. so i make all my pins using hard maple and install them just as you would install a metal pin.
i also dowel the shaft with a piece of bocote where i cut the threads into the shaft.

Yep, I hadn't thought about the forearm wood not being shaft wood. I like your cues (for whatever that is worth) and returning the thread to its rightful position, I really like these CCS cues and I want to pick out mine!

Thanks again

Kevin

kevin, i found the american cueist issue similar to above pic, 5/2001 issue. i'll send it with your butterfly ccs cue. i don't have any of the 2nd issue they were cover-featured on, it's a 7/2001 issue. good luck finding it.

Thanks for the something extra I really appreciate it. I'm looking for the 7/2001 issue now.

Thanks again

prices pm'd to those asking for them.

i only have the 8 point model (pictured at far right above) available now. not the actual cue in the pic, but the same model, i used this cue myself for quite some time and it's still in excellent condition. the price is $600. shipped, and paypal is fine, but you'll have to pick up their 3.5% charges(thieves!!)

i would sell the 5 cues pictured above only as a set, along with the 5/01 and 7/01 issues of the american cueist magazine, which featured them on the covers, as well as a beat up copy of the auction catalogue of carl s. conlon's pool related estate, by dennis dieckman. you'll need to make me an offer i can't refuse if you're serious about buying them.

i don't like the "make offer" line when selling stuff here, but i'm really not very motivated to sell these 5 cues. so please excuse me for doing it this one time.

good grab, kevin. i had my eye on these but didn't pull the trigger. looks like you're hooked on these cues now.
