Hey everybody. I just read page 1 of the for sale forum. Here are a few phrases taken from several thread titles:

"...Cheap too"
"...clearance close out"
"...largely discounted"
"...dirt cheap"

In this time where so many cannot afford to buy, and many are being forced to sell, only to find that their items dont sell even at cut rates, I have a suggestion that is full of value and, for me, provided some hope and positive energy:

Get some of the Accu-Stats DVD's of this year's Predator Straight Pool World Championship. Pat just shipped my order and the matches are great! They are so very worth the asking price.

Pete Margo and Danny Diliberto commentary! Big runs caught on DVD! A player review with Ortmann! Time to call the boys, ice the beer and have an Accu-Stats party by the big screen.

If you can't buy that cue this year, why not spend $15 or $20 on a great pool match. I just watched Ralph Eckert run 100 and out on Dan Louie. I feel good and I am hungry to play!

I have no ulterior motives here...I just want to suggest an affordable way to get your pool blood boiling. So to borrow a line from Billy or Danny: "If you want this match or any other, give Pat a call. 1-800 828-0397"

I agree, the finals was gripping drama with Mika getting the big lead and Stephan storming back. DiLiberto is a great commentator, you can learn things just by paying attention to his comments.

This year, Accu-Stats did a player review match with Oliver Ortmann.

Ortmann is world champion and ran 100 and out in the two matches that preceeded the player review session. That session, a second round match, played to 150. Again, Ortmann ran out. That's 350 consecutive points! Earl Herring, a top player himself, broke and watched Ortmann win in 1 inning.

The run is great to see, but because this is a player review match, Pat Flemming does the commentary with the winning player afterwards. Pat has a gift for this commentator/facilitator role. He asks the right questions and makes the entire commentary about exactly how a world champion thinks and approcahes many situations throughout the match.

For Ortmann's advise on the break alone, this DVD pays for itself. Pat persists with questions until speed and english are clearly explained. This is good stuff man!

I second your motion. I bought the entire set and I have only watched a few so far, but they are the best I have seen in a while. DCC only has a few straight pool matches and does not draw the same number of contenders.

Pete Margo is a name I had heard but I didn't know anything about him. HIs straight pool acumen rivaled Danny's. It was quite a treat to have both of them there in the booth.

And the player review of Ortmann is everything you said it was. I watched it live, but the commentary brings it to life even more. It was very educational listening to Oliver talk about how he approaches the game and how he shoots the break shots.

The Ortmann player review was awesome. Danny D is great at announcing, but his partner in the finals was not nearly as good as others. With that said, the Accu-Stats DVDs are awesome.

A great year for 14.1 on Accu-Stats

The Ortmann vs Zvi match was amazing. Ortmann ran 100 balls in 36 minutes! Talk about catching a gear...

Accu-Stats coverage has organized each rack into its own seperate chapter. This makes it easy to study a player's break shot across an entire match in moments.

I am picking up on things I never noticed. This match has Danny and Grady for commentary. They too are calling the shots different that I do.

Pete was written about as "A Young Lion" by Fensch in his book, The Lions and the Lambs.

Minnesota Fats said he had a million dollar stroke.

He was also one of the players featured in The Baltimore Bullit.

He was, at one time, arguably the best straight pool player in America. As I am told, he invested in video stores and when the concept took off, it left him so well off that he could retire and live the good life.

If you do a search on Pete Margo, there will be quite a few threads with info on him.
He was born on Oct 8, 1944, started playing pool when he was 14 and has a HR of 330.
Here's a link with a few tidbits on him....http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=50001

Margo was a top notch player.

Thanks, Terry. I really liked hearing Margo do commentary with Diliberto on the straight pool. It would be nice to hear from him again. Old School knowledge.

John Bender was actually pretty good.

He had his hands full with Danny and was very deferential to him.

Some of the times, he would figure out the pattern which was different than what Danny thought and that's the way it went down.

Different strokes for different folks. I couldn't stand him. I will give him credit in that he saw a few different layouts, but it wasn't that many. I thoroughly enjoyed the match though and will watch it again to see if my opinion changes. I hope it does, but right now I thought he as the weakest of Accu-stats announcers to date.
