waiting between tourney matches?

What do you do or what should you do to kill time between matches in a tournament?:boring2:

I hit balls b/w matches if I can. Work on any shots that I have missed or that have not turned out ideally in my previous matches, or perhaps work on my break if it hasn't been productive. If there are no open tables, then I will sweat some good players' matches.

I usually just sit and watch another match. It keeps the brain cells working (why in the hell did he take that shot? Why .... What was he thingking? etc.)

After all the mental aspect is the most important thing in tournaments.

I like going back to the adjoining hotel and relaxing. Anything to get off my feet and stop standing around. Or lunch. I like lunch inbetween matches.

Besides playing and performing well, this is the hardest thing to master in tournament play.

I learned a long time ago the person I'm going to be playing is in the same situation as I am, unless it's early in the tournament and they or I received a bye.

I try not to sit and get stagnant. I might go for a walk and get some fresh air.

If I eat it's only a small amount. I don't like playing on a full stomach.

If a table, away from the people playing, is open, I might go over and hit some balls to stay loose.

I never look at the chart to see who I'm playing next. I don't want to form an opinion of my chances, one way or another. If it's late and towards the end of the tournament and I know who I'm going to play. I never sweat that match. Again, I don't want to form an opinion.

The bottom line is:

Would you rather be waiting to play or on your way home?

Hope this helps.

Why, trying to get my schwerve on with a honey...

uh, no, uh, babe I was just kidding, you know, posturing on an internet forum. I don't really....

Crap, I'm in trouble again, and can't play in any tourneys for awhile. I shoulda known SHE'd walk in while I was typing that!!

I normally go to Tournaments with a friend or arrange to meet them there. If the wait isn't a month of Sundays, good conversation passes the time easy. It also keeps my mind fresh. The one thing that will drive me up a wall is watching Banger miss ball after ball. I will be selective as to what games I watch. For the most part I try and keep my mind off pool while waiting. That is what works for me.

Most Tournament I go to, Do not have table times posted. You must wait. That is one thing I liked about Vegas tournaments when run right.

If there is an open table I like to practice some stroke drills. Or if t here is a particular shot that requires attention.

I also like to eat light. An apple or some fruit juice. Good sources of energy. IMO, much healthier than those so called power drinks.

I also like to talk to other players waiting on their matches. The talk is always 'lite' nothing long winded or complicated.

I don't like to talk or listen to any of the players that are complaining about the conditions, brackets, TD, other players or the pool hall in general. These are built in excuses for the losses they are about to encounter.

I like to keep my attitude on the positive side. I am there to enjoy myself and put my skills to the test. If I am successful, I will have a very good time and hopefully cash.

I always tip the wait staff and thank the TD and Room owner for the added money and the use of the tables.

I like to watch other top level player play and see the patterns they take compared to mine. I think this helps keep my focus, see if I am choosing the right shot for the situation, and you can always learn a little something no matter how good you are. Its like playing the ghost, but he is shooting.

I saw an interview where Bustamante states that he will "drink coffee and smoke" between matches

This is my favorite thing to do also. I just recently started getting hotels for the day when I travel, I used to just wait until after Saturday's play to find one. Now I can take a nap, shower, eat, explore my body, relax, etc.

It's very relaxing to get out of the smokey, loud environment and take my mind off of things.

Waiting between matches is what made me lose interest in the small local tourneys.

Waiting an hour for two C players to play a race to 3 or 4 just started killing me.

One gal used to take so long to shoot I'd walk over to the billiard table and shoot a few shots while she layed her cue on the table for tangent lines, etc... for 2 minutes before she missed.

I've seen others play chess games, which really does make time fly.

Depends...

It depends on the event what I do between matches.

If it is a local tourney, I normally spend the time between matches hanging out with my friends and bs'ing about what's going on around us.

For regional events, such as the OB Cues stops, I like to chit-chat with players I don't see often. I like to get on the streaming table and commentate on matches (though I think I mostly BS there too). Within 20-30 min of my match, I like to hit a few rack of balls. If I have time, I will try to get out and get a bite to eat.

At Nationals, I like to go up to the room and hang out. If I have alot of time, I will hit the casino to get my mind off the tournament.

I think for me, the main thing is that I get my mind out of the game between matches. I find that if I don't, by the end of the day, I have worn myself out mentally.
