If i were asking for the 7, what does that mean?

Do you pot the first 6 then have to stop so i can shoot the 7?

No, it means when playing 9 or 10 ball and you make the 7 or 8 or whatever spotted ball, you win....and you obviously win making the 9 or 10 as well. I think you all call it getting "start". The rest of the rules are up to the players to work out. Sometimes making the spotted ball on the break is a winner....or not, again you make your own rules before starting.

ahh...right...got ya.

So if i'm on the 7 you have to pot 9 balls but i only need to pot 7. Like a handicap.

Cheers

i get the feeling you misunderstood. getting the 7 means that you have another money ball on the table. making the 7 on the break/combo results in you winning.

you don't have to call it, not even on the break, unless you're getting the "call 7". if you make it (the 7) on the break and scratch it stays down. if your opponent makes it on the break and scratches it comes back up.

on a side note if you have to ask about this there's a good chance you need the 6 from who ever is offering you the 7

It depends from where he is. Where I am very few knows about this kind of handicap, because it is not use. We are more giving handicap on the race (ex: I'll give you 4 racks in a race to 9).

We call that "games on the wire" over here in california. i'd rather be getting the 7 than games on the wire imo.

There's lots of spots in 9 ball and one hole.

9 ball you can be spotted a ball or a couple of balls. You can be spotted games in a race or in an ahead set.

If I'm playing a weak player, I can probably give him the 6 up: which means if he makes the 6, 7, 8, or 9 anytime during the game, he wins.

You can spot a player the rainbow if he's an absolute beginner. That's any ball on the table.

From there, you got the orange crush, or some top players spot the three ball only because there may be a high likelihood that they will miss that ball and when they do miss that ball, there ain't no way they're gonna run out.

Normally, I'll give a semi lesser player the last two balls on the table, or maybe even the call 8. You can give another player the last three and the wild 8. You can give a player the 7 and the breaks.

If I'm racing to 9, I can give the other player a two game head start. That is called '2 games on the wire'.

It's really whatever creative way you want to negotiate to get that player to play you.

In one hole, you are usually give a weaker player a couple of balls. Instead each player making 8, you play 9-6 or 10-5 where the stronger player has to make more and the weaker player has to make less.

I think there is a pool terminology list somewhere. There has got to be one. I'm sure if you look hard enough, you will find it, but at least this gives you snooker blokes a wee bit of insight......

Gambling is fun. I don't gamble so much anymore, I'm into making cues, but I still like to when someone woofs some nonsense at me.

i completely overlooked your avatar before i posted that. you guys mostly play 8 ball or what? do you play on the tables that look like smaller snooker tables?

To expand, English 8-ball is played on the 7' tables pictured, with smaller balls and very small pockets, with rounded pocket jaws like snooker.
