I emailed the fellow on Ebay about the Tad with two shafts. I asked him to remove the bumper and let me know what the number was and he said there wasn't any. Shouldn't it have a number

I am not aware of numbers under the bumper, can you post the e-bay link?

i think some of his early cues werent numbered under the bumper...however his newer cues are... mine is numbered....

I could be wrong, and there are many more educated about Tad's then me, but I believe all Tad's with the logo should have a serial number pressed into the wood under the bumber, unless there were modifications made to change the weight by someone else.

Nice cue though. The pictures sure look like a Tad.

Yes, you are correct. All TAD's with logo's have a serial number. TAD Kohara started using serial numbers in 1978. He started to use his logo in 1983.

TAD cues use weights built into the front and rear section of the handle. Removing weight from the rear of the cue at the butt cap would definitely be the wrong way.

LOL, he says it is for sale locally.

I agree with TATE, it sounds shady. Don't know if it is or if it isn't, but it sure does look like one. The not being able to pick up the cue even though it is being sold locally, just sounds weird. I don't see much of a patina on the forearm or butt sleeve, it could have to have been refinished at one point. Difficult to tell since the images are so small and not high enough resolution.

Word of advice, most of TAD's cues from that time period were 20oz - 21oz. That was about the standard weight range he built them. There are cues with different weights by customer request, but those requests were rare. If the cue is indeed 19.5oz which is more synonymous with the standard weights of modern day cues, it would be safe to make the assumption that the seller isn't the original owner, had the cue refinished, and the weight changed. Just something to consider. That is, if the cue looks too pristine. I just happen to like to think worst case scenario. Helps to keep the expectations down.

Just make sure that when you pay for the auction via paypal, pay with a credit card in case something were to go wrong. If the buyer is in the LA area, you could always take it to Tad and Fred to verify in person after the purchase. If it is not legit, open a dispute with Paypal and your credit card company. Problem solved.
