My first Tim Scruggs

I'm sure everyone heard of Tim Scruggs by now :oink:

Soooo, after trading/selling/buying about 30 cues, I decided that I need to put a lil bit more effort into getting a good cue and TS was my first option. I don't have the money for a Searing as of yet but that is next on my list.

Anyways, I got a great deal for a Sneaky Pete from cjohnsonjr (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=163261) and yesterday I finally got the cue.

Everything that I've read about Tim's cues is so true. I felt in love with the cue in an instant.

As a short introduction - I've always played Predator shafts. Everytime I would try a different shaft I would become very irrate with the way it would play and I would go back to my Predator.

Last night I said to myself that if I was to give this cue a try, I will play with it's original shaft. And boy ! What an amazing shaft !

First of all, the ivory ferrule makes the feel of the hit very different. Stiffer but the feedback is very "precise". I could feel when I put too much or not enough spin. The shaft has some sort of a layer (varnish like) that is glossy and helps with the stroke. Never had a shaft with such a feel to it.

Since I've always played Uniloc, I was "scared" about this 5x14/16 but the feedback once again is amazing.

I dunno where the balance point is but when screwed together, the cue felt pretty much like a 1 piece cue. Hit, feel, everything. 1 piece.

If I can recommend anything is stop wasting your money on crappy cues. Save more, spend more, get more satisfaction.

If you love the sneaky you need to order a new custom Scruggs!! I think you will love it even more!!

I've shoot with 3 TS that my friends own (still can't afford one.). They hit very sweet. Someday, I will be able to afford them TS.

BTW, I think your pin should be 5/16x14.

Thanks, honestly I've only had it for about 3 months. Been shooting with it on and off; though, more so lately. I like it!

Shhhh! C'mon people these cues are supposed to be a secret.

Yeah I love them TS and MC cues

I couldn't agrre more with the initial advice"quit wasting money on cheap cues, save up get a Scruggs"

It has been my experience that you actually make money when you buy a well known quality cue,and you can play with it too,

If I were going to tell you young players one thing that I have learned ,it would be this ,call Tim Scruggs buy the fanciest cue you can afford and play with it until it gets too expensive and take a big profit

why the fanciest? Because they go up in value more than the plain ones.

I would send him $500 and $100 pr month for a couple of years or something like that if he would do it.At least thats how I got started and I will never forget the first few when they arrived.

If you love a Scruggs sneaky then you'll love a Bob Frey sneaky (which are still being made). Bob worked for the Scruggs cue company and made a vast majority of his sneaky petes..before striking out on his own. Bob also is a great secret that never gets any mention...but can make beautiful/elaborate cues as well. I've seen several.

They play great!

I'm so glad to read post from so many Scruggs lovers from all over the world (being a Md. guy I know how great TS cues feel) They feel great when you play with them and YOU FEEL GREAT when you own them. I first met Tim in the very early 80's when I wanted a custom cue. First I went to JOSS in Towson and was treated as if they would be doing me a favor to accept my money and allow me to buy thier cue. To be fair this WAS NOT DAN JANES himself, but someone working the front counter . Then I looked in the yellow pages and found Scruggs Custom Cues ( up in the old meat locker on top of the hill). Tim's basic cue was $250.00 and the most expensive was under $1000.00, the fold out catalog had a girl in a bikini sitting behind the cues. For those of you that know Tim, he was a gentleman then and has remained so today. every time you see Tim it's like seeing an old friend or even good Family. To me the family is Tim, Bob Frey, Mike and now Dean, counrty Bob, Matt and everyone that knows, loves, and respects one great man and his great work. Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Hope to met some of you guys at Valley Forge in March

I still am hoping to eventually get to try one of tims cues one day.

I did however score a nice bob frey and havent put it down since then.

my scruggs family

I have all scruggs SP, and one of the rare jump butts. They are the best cue ever! Simple, and a workhorse... I am actually almost ready to buy another one.. I will let you know, if anyone is interested contact me. I will send you pics sometime.

Yes, Scruggs Cues are simply Amazing Players...

I've got a few of them...and each has excellent feedback and feel.

Nice stiff hit...and a solid - "KINK" - upon impact (not too hard and not too soft)

...and the cue really makes it easy to move whitey!!!

I bet the one that Danktrees has for sale is a really good player.

Scruggs Bacote Sneaky

Vlad: I'm pleased you like the cue. I've regretted selling it more than once; but I can tell it's in good hands. I'm still playing with my Scruggs Titlist conversion and enjoying it. Chuck
