What do you like better - Gold Crown III or Diamond Pro-Am???

Hello everyone. I am looking to replace all the Brunswick Medalists in my pool room. I'm trying to decide what to go with. I am limited in my budget as to what I can get or I'd get all Gold Crown V's hands down.

I have the opportunity to pick up some Gold Crown III's but I could also turn my room into the only Diamond Table room in the area. Diamond offers a good deal on the Pro-Am one piece slate model.

All your suggestions or warnings are welcomed.

Thank You!

Of the 2 mentioned, there's no comparison. Of course the Diamond wins hands down. In fact you won't see much improvement from the Medalist to the GCIII. I love the GCI's & GCII's but the quality dropped way off on the III's. The anodized metal work quickly wears off in places making them look tacky. For most pool rooms any commercial Brunswick's CGII and prior are pretty good tables if well maintained but as evident by my own actions, the Diamond blows them all away. The actions of mine I was referring to are, 1) I sold my GCII which was picked up this morning and 2) am, as I type, in the process of setting up my Diamond Pro with Diamond light!
I play in one significant tournament each year now, the Derby City Classic, have played in every one. Each year while I don't really plan to go far in the tourney, I want to at least play up to my speed. I practiced on my GCII (with very tight pockets) but the Diamonds just play differently, mostly noticeable in the banking. I feel helpless for a while before I get the feel of the tables. Unfortunately by that time I'm stuck too bad to recover. This year, for the first time I'll be able to practice on a Diamond before going to the Derby, hopefully avoiding the embarrassing performances of the past!

I'd say, go with the Diamonds if you can afford to. I know they make some attractive arrangements with poolrooms switching over. Good Luck in a tough business! Been there, done that!

just more hot air!

i prefer the gold crown 1,but any of the others to diamond,i can not get used to the rails, pockets or speed.younger player and better players may differ

I don't have any technical advise to offer but I can give you my opinion as a customer. I like the Pro-Am better.

Just a thought, my local room has both Gold Crowns and Diamonds. Seems to work fine for them.

Just out of curiosity, if price is an issue, how can brand new diamonds compare to 20 yr old GC3's (price only).

To answer your question, I despise diamonds because of their rails. WAY too much speed. I won't gamble on them. Thats my opinion of course, but I've heard the same by plenty of others. I've also heard the opposite of players that will only gamble on a diamond.

There is another room in NJ, Hot Shots, that has half diamonds pro-ams and half gold crown 4s. You can visit them to get an idea how diamond rails will play in NJ climate.

Good idea. Is giving customers a choice an option for you?

Funny, I just delivered some more 9ft Diamond ProAm's to another private pool room in NJ that didn't even think about putting in GC's:rolleyes: I wonder how the gambling there will do...in the NJ climate:grin:

Diamonds Pro-Ams definitely... I used to drive 25 minutes past a certain pool room just to get to another that had Diamonds instead of Gold Crowns.

They just play better to me.

I also in the same trip delivered a 9ft Diamond ProAm to Allen Hopkins for use at his home....and yes he paid for the table...even when he could have gotten a GC5 for free...and he ALSO lives in NJ....but hey, maybe Allen forgot how to play pool and just wanted a Diamond just encase he started remembering how to play again:grin:

My last 2 posts, what does that tell you folks???

no contest....imo...

diamonds are the very best table ever made. they play the truest. for me, they allow more creation at the table. because of the more "squared" cut of the pockets...there are more banks that will go etc...
and they are tough enough to keep every player very honest.

just my opinion...but then...i peed on a dudes leg, so?

like we would take your word for it... you can't hit the inside of a urinal.

Diamond Pro-Am

I can't believe RKC isn't pointing out the maintenance difference.

1. The ProAm can be levelled with 2 wrenches. Boom your done
a. GC must be raised and the legs turned

2. The ProAm slate can be leveled without ANY breakdown
a. The GC must be partially disassembled.

3. The 9ft ProAm has Artemis cushions unlike it's little brother the 7ft ProAm
The Artemis cushions bank true and consistent.

I would always prefer to play on a diamond because you "get beat by the equipment" rarely.

RKC can right a book on this subject.

Go with the diamonds. I love the way they play and it sets you apart from the competition in your area.
It only helps you beat the competition if you can get to play them on a diamond. Most tables I have encountered in pool halls are slop buckets. Bangers look like world champions on those tables.
