> I agreed to post an impartial review of a laminated,all-leather break/jump tip that cuetechasaurus offered for free in a recent thread. Here are my results so far.
The tip is kind of a funny color before installation, kind of a mottled reddish-purple. Neither side was marked, but neither of these make a damn in the final, installed tip. The installation went VERY clean, and something grabbed my attention immediately. Instead of the typical dust/shavings I usually see when cutting tips in my lathe, this tip produced a very plastic-like "ribbon" style chip,an indicator of what might have been done to produce these tips. The shaping process was similar in nature. One observation about installation when using a utility blade. Use a NEW one...
I only broke about 20 racks with it so far,and hit a few balls. My honest opinion is that this is a FINE product. It is WAY,WAY harder than any reasonable person can use to actually shoot with, very similar in sound and grip characteristics to a phenolic tip,but indeed holds chalk NICELY.
As far as breaking with it,it did the job about as well as can be expected, and although it doesn't have a lot of play on it yet, hasn't mushroomed even the slightest bit.
He threw me an added bonus,a sample of a laminated playing tip as well
