Cue collector question

I wasn't sure where to post this so the main forum will work. OK so I am a player/ semi collector. My question is in regards to a 1/1 Richard Black my specs. I no longer have the shipping tube but still have all paperwork and even the original artwork I drew up for Richard. This cue came in a Richard Black Whitten 1x2 case. Now I am looking to have a custom made, hopefully GTF, made for it with matching inlay work in the case, my name , rb logo, yada yada. So from a collector stand point should I still hold onto the original Whitten because it states in on the receipt with the cue or does it really matter?
 
Yes, hang on to the original. If you sell the cue in the future potential buyers are not going to want a case with your name on it.

If you are going to put your name on a case, I would suggest to have it put on a shoulder pad so it could be removed if you ever want to sell the case. if you never plan on selling it then put your name on it anywhere you wish.

I agree about selling a case down the road with your name on it. I made the mistake of ordering a Justis case (older tube style) a few years ago with my name on it and things changed and I decided to sell the case later. I took a beating on the selling price because it had my name on it. The case was in perfect condition, but who would pay top dollar for a case with someone else's name on it. My advice is to not have your name put on your new case because you might need to sell it one day. I learned this lesson the hard way.

Thx Jamie. The only way this cue would ever be sold would be after I go. At which point I wouldn't care lol. But I see your point. Things can come up and things can change.
 
Yes, Hold onto the original case. It might be just as collectible as your custom case, becasue of the paperwork in the long run.

Ditto on what everyone else said, hang onto the case! It adds value to the sale later down the road.
 
I have a different opinion than most here.

I don't think a case that isn't somehow matched to the cue has much more value than what you could sell the case for separately. When I buy a cue and it comes with a normal case, it does nothing for me because I keep my collection in larger cases anyway and that case would just sit around separately.

If the Whitten had inlays that matched the cue or used the same leather as the wrap, or something else that paired it with the cue I would always keep the case with the cue. I have a beautiful Hercek that came with a custom Whitten that has "Gladiator" inlaid into the case to match the cue, obviously I would never separate those two items.
 
In my opinion you should keep EVERYTHING original to the cue, including the case all the paperwork etc. I love seeing a Gus cue with the box, fellini case, handwritten notes and designs. My Gus didn't come with any of that but it's still a Gus. So yes I think you should keep all that came with the cue.

As far as the personalized GTF; When I was collecting cues and cases I never bought anything that was personalized in any way. But that's just me. I always looked at the future resale of the item. And 95% of the time a personalized piece is harder to sell. With some exceptions of course like a Rambow or something.
