Help sponsor Larry Nevel at the DCC - $100 per share

Can someone please tell me the last time they saw larry nevel gambling all night at the dcc or gambling period?

Larry hasn't made a post in 2 months before he got on to get backers for DCC. That is a large part of the reason I am not putting up a share. I don't like the insinuation that the pool community is not good for anything more than raising money.

At least John Schmidt participates in lively discussion on the forums, which I appreciate. As of right now, he is one of very few pro pool players I would let a red cent exit my pocket for, as far as stake money is concerned. I do not take differences of opinion to heart, and I simply appreciate when pro players put on their thick skin and participate here with us. It seems that most forget we exist until they need some money.

Funny - no one seemed to mind when Mary Rakin came on here asking for DONATIONS for her pool career. And she had never posted at all. If you search all her threads, some of the people that didn't mind are the ones that mind here.

OK,

In Larry's defense, the typical arrangement to put a player of his caliber in an event like this is to:

pay for lodging
pay entry fees (and buybacks here)
food is an optional thing for a stake but it happens

In exchange for putting all the money up front the backer recoups all expenses off the top then there is a split of the winnings, not always 50/50 but typically.

In this situation, there is the added opportunity of the all-around which the backer would get 25%. Larry obviously is a contender for that as he has won it previously.

I don't really think it is a bad gig for a backer to jump on but..........if he would have stated all of this in the beginning it would have looked much better on his request. I don't think it is a bad proposition for 1 or 20 people to take him up on it but it is good to know all the details before committing money.

GL at Derby Larry.

damn, forgot about that 10K beatdown Archer gave him in SC about a year and a half ago. Those are the last 2 times I remember him gambling.

I can't say Larry won't be in action at the DCC because I can't predict the future, but I can say that it's very rare that Larry gets action anywhere. I can say that Larry is very proud on winning the all-around at DCC before and would love to win it again and that does keep him focused.

Ok - I will be at the DCC on Friday the 22nd to hand Larry over the funds.
(please read the bold here to answer a question from one of the members)

have you tried BL golden wheat? and what do you think of it ?

I have not, I am not much into ales or dark lagers. I am a pretty simple redneck that likes Miller Lite. I have experimented with a lot of the imports and high brow domestics but I prefer the 'ol Rusty Nails.

You are right, I have no clue as to what Larry's gambling habbits have been like recently.

So I was not dumb to assume that the 1.9K requested was for expenses directly associate to the tournament?

It is time for me to actually work for a change, so as stated earlier, I am still in, just want it laid out by Larry for my pure morbid curiousity, which was piqued when Jay pulled out.

Don't care if he is going to roll it up and pass it around, don't care if he is going to take Mary Avina out to dinner, don't care of he is going to try to buy a permanent spot on the "Best Player in the State" list, don't care if he is sending Mr. Wilson a B-Day present, I am comitted regardless of answer. Just want to know......

A bit if a lurker here but had to register to say WTF. Larry made an offer for 50% of winnings in exchange for $1900. It is what it is, if you don't want it, don't buy in but don't rake the guy over the coals expecting a itemized list of where your $100 is being spent. Some of you sound like because he won in 03 and gets free entry and hotel you should share in that benefit. What if Larry gets a free coffee when he buys gas on his way to DCC, should the free coffee be deducted from the $1900? Or what if he hitches a ride and has no transportation, hotel or entry costs would you still expect 50% of his winnings and only want to cover the cost of $300 food, gimme a break. Good luck Larry

lol, me thinks you are like me in that it really doesn't matter as long as it's got alcohol in it. That being said, I don't drink any of that dark, thick beer that you have to eat with a fork. (don't drink much beer, but when I do it's usually the common stuff)

WOW! How many retards are on this thread!?

Did john schmidt come here back in 2006 and ask to be staked in the us open and he wanted like $1700 or something? It wasn't bad of him to do that, so why is it bad this time?

niether am i but BL golden wheat is smooth and light. you may like it !

Besides the game with Bruce and the game with Archer that have been mentioned I can think of the following times Larry has been in action over the last 3 years that I've known him:

In 2007 he played Ryan McCreesh giving him, I believe, the 8. They played an ahead set Larry won.

In 2008 he played Neils Feijan one-pocket, even, and Larry won.

So 4 times in the last 3 years he's gotten action. Boring! lol.

Oh, wait, I almost forgot. In 2007 he played some guy in Knoxville some races to 7 for $25 before a tournament to get warmed up. He won a couple sets. Does that count? lol.

Ask shane or efren, who both have free hotel and entry, if you can have half of their DCC tourny winnings for 2k, see if you dont get laughed at.

Originally I would have agreed with you, I love pool, support pool, and like this forum (when I am un-banned). The etiquette of this sort of thing is new to me, so I didn't question it from the begining, I just figured I had a good chance of breaking even at a minimum as Larry has a shot at winning almost all events. Maybe Jay could jump in and enlighten me/us as to why he pulled out vs. your thoughts quoted above? I trust Jay's opinion, decisions, and thought process on things pool related.
