Actually, yeah. Don and I have had a lot of opportunities come our way since the seminar. I know there were a lot of crews that had jobs on the schedule, and had other valid reasons to leave, but I was honestly surprised at how much thinner the crowd was getting as the weekend went on. We actually stayed until mid Tuesday to help finish the job that a lot of other crews left undone by Saturday and Sunday. Again, I'm not calling anyone out, because I know most people had valid reasons they could not stay. I can't help but feel like there were a few people though that left once they saw the gluing method, or whatever it was they were there to see. For those people, I don't know that the jobs are going to be flooding in right away from Glen and Simonis.
This job takes a lot of pride, guys. There aren't many worthwhile shortcuts in this business. Keep in mind that I've never studied business. I'm certainly not formally educated. One thing I've learned though while going into business for myself is not to expect to get rich quick. By that I mean that too many people expect to do something like just show up in Alsip and put your name on a list and expect immediate results. Results take time. Before the phone starts ringing off the hook, you may have to spend YEARS out in the field proving yourself. During those years, you have to spend months building rapport with your repeat customers and commercial accounts to get the steady jobs. During those jobs you may have to spend some extra hours making sure the job is done above and beyond your client's expectations. Too many people in business today want immediate results and aren't willing to put the long term time in. Most of the time it just doesn't work that way.
Alsip wasn't a doorway into wealth and prosperity. Alsip was an opportunity to be a part of a group of guys that shows pride in their work. It's still going to take a lot of hard work before the results of that seminar start to show. Most of what I personally gained from Alsip was the confidence that I/we have been pointed in the right direction. I just hope that if I continue to use the methods I was shown in Alsip and show the pride in my work like I did in Alsip, Glen and Felice, among many others, will take note, and more opportunities will start to come my way.
So short answer, yeah. I've gained a TON since the seminar. Thanks to everyone who was involved.
