poolhall smoking

my god people, how the hell can people go on and on about smoking? I thought this thread was dead a week ago.

Then I noticed something..... this LWW and a few others from the NPR group, spitting out posts right and left. Like a person can't voice their opinion once on the subject and leave it at that.. they must reply to every post and drone on and on and on and on and on and on and on.....

Think about this for a minute.....

LWW - about 4 and 1/2 years on this forum and 23,600 posts.

Let's do some math here... 4 1/2 years = 54 months x say 30 days in a month = 1,620 days

23,600 posts divided by 1,620 posts = about 15 posts a day.. 15 posts A DAY , EVERY DAY, EVERY MONTH, EVERY YEAR for 4 and 1/2 YEARS!!!!

Am I the only one that feels that is just a little bit pathetic of a life?

I agree with part of your message, that this thread should have died a week ago.

I disagree that because an articulate speaker enters the discussion, that disagrees with your view, that he should be banned from or berated or otherwise be discredited. Your lefty traits are showing.

I suggested near the start of this thread that it belonged in the NPR section.
You may now agree. You may not.

I know why it was NOT started in the NPR section. Many people there can reason, using logical thoughts and principles and come to a conclusion. They will call out those spewing cr*p.

It is a process you should consider.

You have a point, albeit a very small one.
Threads are not always one time throw aways. It can be entirely appropriate to reintroduce an old one, should the need arise. If that were not so then I'm afraid we would soon run out of things to talk about.
Add to that, the fact that the very nature of a forum is to promote and encourage the intelligent, and thoughtful interaction among it's members, be they in agreement, or be they not.
Quell this spirit and it's curtains for all of us.

That was straight Saul Alinsky without ice.

Why do you choose to personalize then demonize someone becuase they can reason better than you?

Why don't you choose to either articulate a cogent response, or ... perish the thought, learn?

#1 - Nobody os forcing you to sit by me.

#2 - The owner not catering to my needs deprives me of the food that I want ... and I don't want to go elswhere. I want to make everyone else cater to what I want. After all it's ME.

Now ... is there any example of a pool hall that MADE you enter and MADE you stay?

If so ... I'm with you.

If not ... you are making the same argument that I made in point #2. I know you'll say that's different ... because it's YOU.

LWW
In a way they do make you enter the poolhall or bar, and the reason is all bars are smoking (in my area anyway). Secondly nobody is going to open up a poolhall/bar that is non smoking unless they hate money because it wouldn't be profitable... If they made the law non smoking then I bet it would be profitable.

property rights

I see this as a debate with far reaching implications. Where do individual property rights begin and where does individual freedom end? I find it very concerning that a government can legislate rights at this level to the general public on individual private property.

Standing up for private business is standing up for your own private property. Your property could be next.

Once again, where did you get that proof about cell phones causing cancer? "The science is in"??? IF, and only "if" it is proven that there are adverse effects from cell phones, it wouldn't be a second-hand radiation issue. If you do any RF research, you will find there are a lot of issues with RF, but they are directly related to output power vs distance from the source. The RF output power of a cell phone is less than 1/2 a watt, which might be capable of affecting someone who has it right up next to their head (extreme "maybe"), but it certainly wouldn't affect anyone nearby. It's output isn't nearly strong enough. And even then, the direct effect to the user hasn't been proven. Not enough time has passed to come up with any sort of serious conclusion. Trust me, there are strong lobbies on both sides of that issue, but if there is substantive evidence about cell phones causing cancer, you WILL hear about it. And if it is proven to be harmful to others, I'd fall right in line with limiting their use, as well. Personally, I'd like more businesses to limit cell-phone use to certain areas. Not for any perceived safety risk, just because they are so damned annoying. Yes, I said businesses, not "gummint".

You have a far greater chance of being affected by the RF output of your microwave oven, were it to develop a leak. Or the CB radio hooked up to an illegal amplifier in every 18-wheeler you drive near on the freeway. The computer you are using right now generates RF. Your car has 3 to 4 computers in it, all of them generating RF. (Another pox on society.) Garage door openers, automatic car starters, walkie-talkies, wireless routers or security systems. And all of those devices don't have to submit to the strict RF safety guidelines that cell phones have to.

As you have stated before.... next?

You're in denial... it isn't a river in Egypt.

It's about health, man....period. You deniers of the reality of second-hand cell phone use had better wake up....You're killing people just so you can talk to your mistress when you should be paying attention to the pool game.

I laugh when I hear some of you deniers talk about liberty and such....what liberty do you have when you're laying in a hospital bed with cancer? huh?

"According to the World Health Organization, tobacco is the second leading cause of deaths all around the globe. The WHO estimates that 10 percent of all deaths are smoking related, which comes out to about five million people each year. This number is expected to grow to 10 million by 2020. Half of all smokers will die from their tobacco use. That's about 325 MILLION deaths total. "

Looks like your 262 Million was just trumped.

And your number wass trumped by all othe deaths, too.

OK, so the govt murdering has been justified...because it is fewer than people committing suicide by smoking.

Now, let's add into those numbers the wars, shall we? You see, the murders haven't counted the wars.

And let's add in the opportunities lost due to the govts taking all the money, all the jobs, all the ideas, all the opportunities....That number is impossible to know...those ideas, productions, etc. died with each individual human who was murdered by the state in the name of society.

Have you guys heard that our "protectors" are trying to impose a world wide tax....for "health care research" ?!!!

Once liberty is gone, it is very hard to get back. Little by little, it goes almost unnoticed except by a few. But then it's too late for peaceful means....Brother against brother...

Smokers and nonsmokers ... we need parallel universes to survive! No way to read all the pages of this, especially because I've read the same posts by the same posters for at least 3 or 4 years running.

Only hope for Donny, or anybody else who likes to breathe normally, has to be, if a deal cannot be reached to play after hours, to move away from the smoke-infested parts of the country! Laws may change, but who knows when. Probably be a long time since the right-wing nutballs are sure to take over again this fall.

That'd be me, I assume.

Please inform me of mistakes in my arguments.

Thanks,

I agree. Smoking is not the issue. What's next. Wake up people & see the real issue here. As far as smoke nazis, they need to walk around like the boy in a bubble.

Yes, the WHO also says that cell phone usage causes brain cancer!!! They're the experts on health!...the world's govts say so, so it must be true.

The WHO’s Interphone investigation’s results showed, "a significantly increased risk" of some brain tumors "related to use of mobile phones for a period of ten years or more," the Telegraph reported today.

The study’s head, Dr. Elisabeth Cardis, said, "In the absence of definitive results and in the light of a number of studies which, though limited, suggest a possible effect of radiofrequency radiation, precautions are important."

BAN CELL PHONES IN POOL HALLS.

All of that compacted radiation, flying around the pool room, bouncing off of the slate, penetrating into the brains of innocents!!! IT MUST STOP BEFORE SOMEONE DIES!!!!

You heartless bastards! Go walk 20 feet outside to make your calls...or are you too selfish to consider others...That's the problem in America today, ya know!

I didn't bother reading any of the arguments.....BAN CELL PHONES NOW...That's the only right thing to do.

I agree!!! Let's ban all posters who post more than, oh...than 5 posts per day....I've heard that second-hand posting contributes to cancer. The only solution is a law banning something.

So, if what you just said is true, then the will of the people is being thwarted by the law and ignored by businesses.

Just another something to think about...

1 - Please cite for me a single example where you were forced to enter a pool hall or bar. What's that? You can't? Then why claim it.

2 - If it isn't profitable to have a non smoking pool room or bar ... WTH gives you the right to destroy a business's profitability just to suit you? I'd suspect that in any large city a single non smoking establishment could do nicely. The reason more couldn't make it is that most drinkers are smokers. Most smokers are drinkers. Most pool players are drinkers and smokers.

3 - Where the law has been put into effect the results have been absolute carnage.

Now, the only thing left for the uber-statists is that when all the poolhalls close down they can demand a gubmint subsidy to keep them open.

LWW

The laws in Washington state have not caused any carnage at all.

Even the casinos that are close to tribal casinos where you can still smoke are still open after many years of this law being in affect.

I used to smoke and what I noticed is now a group of people tend to go outside to smoke and many pleasant conversations are started between strangers that would have never approached each other inside the bar.

Move to Washington and enjoy our smoke-free bars and pool halls where all the owners are still doing fine because it's equal.

Very good choice Government!

I LOVE this post. Greenies to you my friend !!!!!!!!!!
I might take up cigarette smoking because they taste like crap, smell like sh!t, cause cancer, age me, turn my teeth and nails yellow, make me cough, and will definitely shorten my life while lowering my quality of life while I'm alive!

Ha... good luck finding anyone with a logical explanation to smoke anywhere at all.

I can't recall anyone trying to make an argument for why smoking is a good thing?

We all do things which aren't good for us ... are we all willing to allow the state to become our nanny and decide which we can and cannot continue doing?

So, can you give a reasonable, safe, and fair method for decision making when there are multiple factions and opinions? Pistols or swords?

What if I want to my neighbors car and I am bigger, stronger and more powerful than he? Without the rule of law....I win.

Even primal tribes have rules that protect the general good.

We are not animals, we are civilized and do not eat our young.
