PAT (Players Ability Test)

HI, had to send this. we did extensive work on IPAT before submitting the final draft to POOLSTUDENT.COM ssDAVE.

It's a great form of practice and measurement, I would suggest it to anyone. Books, DVD's and lessons are available from many sources but none teach it better than Thorsten Hohmann!!

Here is a link to a thorough review of the Player Ability Tests [START,1,2&3] My friend has created POOLSTUDENT.COM. and I have had the opportunity to be involved in some evaluations. The site is very extensive and extremely well written. Enjoy, Dave.

After reading all the recommendations, I got curious about it and just bought the PAT 1-3 books/DVD's.
You guys are costing me money, hehe.
However, I’m working on my game right now and want to know my score.

Cheers and thanks for information - AZ is a goldmine of knowledge.

Hussa,

Pat 1-3 are amazing good- and the DVD s are great. The Instructors Huber and Eckert are absolutley top-level instructors (both absolutly hammer). If someone begins to play pool and is sure that he wanna get better i highly recommend booklets and the dvd s. One of the best training programs i saw til now. And if someone thinks he s a good player- let him play Pat 1 and 2 ^^ - if you run the whole test- do a favor to yourself and be serious. The Pat 3 is very hard. I like to take many practice skills from theses programs when i m giving lessons or showing ppl some pool. Pat 1-3 is an absolutley *must-have* in my opinion for a *growing* pool-player:)

There are actually 4 books now. They added a START level. I think they felt the level one was too hard for some beginners.
I believe Randyg is a certified PAT instructor. He could not only give the test, but he would be an excellent choice to help you in areas you might need help,

I see that AZ has a good package price on the 3 DVD and workbooks but they do not include the IPAT Start workbook. Do you think that it is required? Am thinking about buying the package deal.

Ok, So I have a friend who has the DVD's & booklets and was kind enough to loan them to me for the weekend....

The drills are tough (from pat 2-up) and the while the the voiceover translator in the DVDs is a little annoying, the contant is very very good.

The scoring, UBER confusing. Im not scared to come right out and say, I just flat out could not understand it well enough to confidently give myself or anyone else the test. Sure I could go through the drills, but when it came to the factor %/target goals/innings and trying to figure that against the scoring table at the bottom of the pages (which didnt seem to match the # of innings per exercise at times... Not only was I having trouble feeling like I really understood the math & scoring tables & innings.... that left brain thinking (confusion, uncertainty) led me to get all KINDS OF OUT OF STROKE. When I tried some of the drills, it took some resetting of my brain. Im eager to try it again while I have these discs/book on loan but Id like to have it expained or do the test with someone who has done it before and I can proceed with the drills without the mental clusterfuxer of figuring out the math. etc....

I have those sets available if guys would like to have them.
That is all I use for my own practice. I was sick and tired of playing against the ghost or get bored when playing all by myself, and these workbooks give me a whole different approach to improve my game.

i just watched some of FastMikes YouTube videos. I'm sold on that training system, it looks fun. I been shooting the same practice drills for too long and they are getting boaring.

I need level 2&3 fron what I saw on the videos. I suppose there is a couple shots on the easy level I might have a problem with and conversly there are probably a a shot or 2 on the highest level that are hangers for me. I'd learn alot from this for sure and it looks like fun too.

anyone looking to trade? i have the mastering pool dvd set that i would like to trade for the ipat dvd's.

I've been using the IPAT training system as well. I started with the START level because I didn't know what to expect and didn't want to get discouraged if PAT-1 was too difficult. After practicing for about 3-4 months I took an 'official' test. Carl Oswald was my examiner and was nice enough to come to my house for it.

I still currently hold the #1 score in North America for IPAT START with 1256 points. At the time that also placed me at #14 in the world, but I have since dropped to #31. IPAT START is really easy, I would recommend starting with that level if you're at least a SL5 or lower (APA ranking).

I've been working on PAT-1 since and it is a LOT harder. I hope to take an official test for that before the end of this year. However, I have only been able to score between 700-800 so far.

Did this help make you a better player or just better at getting a good score on the test?

Thanks
