The very best case

Lol. I ended up flying to Tulsa. I put my cues in my two cases, and then the rest in some heavy duty cardboard poster tubes. Stuffed it all down a big long box and checked it in. I felt safe like that but I carried on my new Whitten Light 2x4. I would never feel safe checking that case in with luggage much less with cues in it. I came back with a silver fox case that held like 6-8 cues loaded down in the same cardboard box along with a huebler luggage case. I never flew with my cues before but was nervous as hell about it.

I didn't even think to use my shotgun case (and that would have been much easier), its big and wide and has a flat padded interior. That would have worked perfect for checking into luggage. I bet I could easily fit 10 cues in that thing, and its got locks.

The only thing i ever seen like that for cues are those Zero Halliburton but they cost a bajillion dollars lol.

If you don't have a very good air tight seal on the case then everything else is just for physical damage and looks. The air tight seal allows the best protection from wide swings in the atmospheric humidity changes. these big swings in humidity from day to day are what cause the most damage in the cues. the points, inlays and rings can swell and heave in the cue and this causes some of the worst scenarios for the epoxy and glue that is holding the cue together. So to start, if you want protection, look for the best air tight seal- this will slow down humidity swings that the cue is exposed to by slowing the rate the humidity equalizes in the case.

I am in the market for a new case. I really don't care that much about looks. I am most interested in protection, going in and out, varying temperatures, long term storage, etc. It probably would need to be at least 3 and 5.

Thanks for any help!!

There was a poll on here, some time ago. If you want to see what other AZ'ers are carrying, it's here: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=152973

If you are on a Tight Budget, do not want LEATHER, IMHO the Sterling Wave Case is a DEAL. It is available from many source like Cue Sight, the retail side of Sterling Gaming. FYI I understand more color will be available soon.

If you want American Made Leather, you can not go wrong with a Dennis Swift Case, as IMHO Swift Case are like a BEST BUY in Leather, and Dennis will do many custom option at a very reasonable cost!

JMHO.......:D

Coco:

Nice post, but a minor detail -- the Sterling Wave cases are INDEED made of leather, depending on the color motif you purchase. For example, my "Grey/Green 4x8" is made of Nubuc leather, and the stitching on this thing is FLAWLESS. I've had the case now, what, a couple years this past December? And with all the league and match play I do, there's not one sign of wear on the case -- no stitches coming loose, no discoloration, no zippers failing (or zipper tabs breaking off), no discoloration or wear on the inside, etc. The only way you know that my case isn't brand-spanking new, is a couple smears of chalk dust on the outside (which a damp cloth easily removes, but I'm too lazy to do this). Hopefully this pic reveals the Nubuc leather:

I also know that the "Black/Brown" and the "Brown/Tan" series are ALSO made of leather; the Black/Brown is detailed/tooled leather, and the Brown/Tan is Nubuc leather, as seen here:

The only Sterling Wave case that is NOT made of leather, is the Orange/Black, which is made of a special waterproof durable Nylon:

Hope this is helpful clarifying info,

Murnak

I have not owned a lot of different cases but my 3x5 Murnak has taken a beating and my cues and case are fine. I have one of his first cases, so it is as old as any of his other cases and still holding up very well.
