El Centro Cal place to play?

Im going to be in El Centro for a 4 weeks and didnt know if there was anywhere close to play, within an hour or so and still in the US?

Found a place on google called Quarters Arcade and Billiards but no information about the place at all on the net, but it does sound more like an Arcade (kids place) than anything.

Not looking for any action, just want a place to be able to watch good players and work on the game.

I worked there years ago. Actually they opened quarters when I was there.I believe quarters closed down,it was right in town. The only other place to play was Brawley billiards, a short drive to Brawley (town). Theres also Yuma which is about a hour drive. Theres the Golden Cue and Tonys pool hall. Not a great selection but better than nothing.
 
Tony's Billiards in Yuma is closed.
Quarters in El Centro is closed.

Brawley Billiards is open, but the person I talked to really knows how to gain customers,,,,,

him: (counting out loud) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,,, ummmm 10, yeah,,,,10 I think.
me: Do you know what kind they are (hoping the guy says Diamonds)
him: uuuummmm there big
me: how big are they (I knwe what was next, but I just had to ask)
him: really big
me: Thank you for your assistance

Just a thought, as a business owner, I may be a good Idea to call your own business every once in a while to see what kind of customer service you potential customers may be receiving.

So it looks like the Golden Cue in Yuma might be the only place to play,,might have to take three day weekends and drive to Phoenix,,,,they put on some great live streams from that area.

I have been quietly trying to decide whether I would rather spend 4 weeks in Stockton or in El Centro, with the big rule being that I am not allowed to leave the city limits for the entire 4 weeks.

I think Stockton wins, partly because I fear El Centro summers.

Tonys wasn't much of a pool hall anyway. The Golden cue is not much either as it has video games on one side and if I remember correctly 6 tables on the playing side. Yuma is a military town so you might find some games there or some decent players to practice with. If you can swing it your far better to drive to Phoenix or San Diego for that matter. Good Luck
 
San Diego is definitely closer than Phoenix, but I will be spending a week in the Sandog prior to going out on the ship, so I know where I'm going to go for that time frame.

I enjoy traveling and seeing different pool halls, so I will try my best to make it to the Phoenix area, maybe Kolby's in Tempe just to see some of the people on the livestreams play in person. Is there a paper or website like onthebreaknews that list all the pool events for the Phoenix area?

Does anyone know of any tournaments going on within a four hour drive of El Centro the weekends of March 27, April 3rd, or April 10th?

I'm afraid El Centro is a dead-zone area for pool.

If your going to be there March 11-14, come out to Alpine where the WPBA San Diego Classic will be held.

Thanks for the info 8BallEinstein, but I wont be in the area until the 15th. El Centro is definitely sounding like a dead zone for pool. Looks like I will be doing a lot of driving at night or hopefully the base has some nice tables to play on,,,,,,,yeah right, like that will happen.

across the boarder in mexico. the girls go to the clubs 4 deep minimum. no joke the chick to guy ratio is easily 2/1.

the us side is a dump
 
Yes, Mexico is fun and always an interesting time, but unfortunately I can not go across the border. No, not because they wont let me across because I have been a bad boy or anything. Its because I have been advised by my leadership to not allow anyone across the border. Pretty tough for me to tell the people working for me that they're not allowed and then have me party it up. Also, I am getting very close to 20 years and I dont need an incident that could lead to me not making that retirement goal.
 
Honestly El Centro California is like a place I have been to several times, and said SO WHAT. If you want a Weekend Excursion go to the Salt, and Sea, and see what is left of the place, and talk to the people that stay, and know some great stories.

Than venture over to YUMA, and there is more history to explore there.

I am thinking you are talking about Salton City when you said Salt and Sea, unless you are trying to tell me about the bird watching community in the El Centro area? Salton City seems like a pretty interesting story and it does look like the place has barely anything left but a couple of roads. What a screw up,,,,start developing everything and,,,,ooooops, not really too safe to live there.

If you were talking about bird watching, I guess I cant knock it because I have never actually thought about intentionally going out to look at birds, but my gut feeling says, there has to be something better to do in the area.

: ) I think Cowboy means the Salton Sea, which, now that I look that up, I learn that "some scientists have called the Salton Sea "California's crown jewel of avian biodiversity."

Who writes this stuff? Do they really want our 5th graders to believe that scientists go around saying things like:

"Hey, what did you do over the weekend?"
"Oh, i visited California's crown jewel of avian biodiversity with the wife and kids..."

And fwiw, I give you about two weeks in El Centro before you start thinking going bird watching is sounding pretty good...

I would strongly advise not crossing the border to Tijuana. Too many bad things happening over there now. The drug gangs are in charge.

I dont plan on going across the border at all and that is one of the reasons, and the other is the Navy currently has Mexico as "off limits" for us so I would rather play it safe than try and be a Rebel.

that's right you're int he navy right? i was stationed in miramar (san diego) and me and my buddys would drive out to el centro because they didn't have anyone checking for military guys over there.

in all honesty one of our friends did get jumped pretty bad one time.

el cento is the boarder town to mexicali not TJ. i used to go there all the time it's a blast. just make sure you don't look like you've got a lot of money and you'll be fine.

Salton City is the place, we called it Salt & Sea as it was where Fresh & Salt Water Met in land. Jay MENTIONED NO GOING TO Tijuana, because the the Drug WAR.


Last Week when we were crossing back from Los Algodones, Baja into the USA after out prescription run, on the MEXICAN SIDE we say Mexican Army Nations checking car on the Mexican side. Drugs is every were in the work. But this was a first time we ever say the Mexican Army with Full Auto Rifle in Los Algodones, Baja.
