i have this mcdermott b/j that has a thick finish on it. I left this stick in the car in the summertime one night and the finish started cracking. it is getting progressively worse. This stick has some sentimentle value for me so i want to get it fixed. Anyone know someone who does work like this and/or what it would cost? here are some pics...

It's hard to tell if the it is only the finish that is cracked. The butt on McDermott cues are hollow due to the size of their weight bolt, in many cases I have seen the wood crack from the inside out. I have never seen a cues finish crack like that unless the wood beneath it was cracked.

If it is just the cues finish, all the cue needs is a refinish and a re-wrap.

Good Luck

I have seen this many times.

It's just the finish and not the wood if it's the same thing I have seen.

Mcdermott went UV quite a while ago, and there finish is really thick. I have only seen this on much older cues that have seen pretty severe temperature fluctuations. I think it is something related to the early UV finish changes. I think their more current cues don't have this issue.

Yes, it can be fixed, but it is a pain. That finish is thick and you need to strip all the old finish off and build it back up that thick again. It takes alot of finish.

Royce,

do you know anyone that does this type of repair? im afraid to send it back to mcdermott for warranty. they may just send me another one.

Jeff

You're not the only one. Me and 2 of my buddies have mcdermotts that are cracked in the same spot. I haven't had time to call them to see if it is covered under warranty. I will let you know if I get the chance.

proficientbilliards.com I've had two cues done my them and they turned out great. Great prices and VERY fast.

Mine was heat, I left it in the car during the summer. Probably could've taken better care but I didn't think it would crack like that. It's been a few years since it happened and mine is also a j/b cue.
