pool in Cleveland

1) Jansco-Closed,nothing in shaker
2) Sharkies-South Euclid,Monticello/Wilson Mills rd. & Green rd. closed
3) Rock & Roll-also called Club 9- closed, pool tables sold to Franks' billiards opened in Wickliffe across from Wickliffe bowling closed about 1 year later (2007-08 ish).
4) Carousel Bowling-Brooklyn closed
5) North field Billiards-got a lot of heavy weight action, lots of road players, idiots got super greedy shot table prices up from 5/hr to 25/hr,went bust and then refused to sell the prime location to anyone(selfishness),now it's a Dollar General store.6) Action Billiards-never get down to Tallmadge/akron area, never hear of any action down there.
7) Chandleys-No action out that way.
8) Starchers-bar room pool-drunk kids,21-30 crowd, sausage feast city. Also one in Eastlake on Vine St.,called Skorchers(HillBillie Heaven-if you like your women with no teeth).
9) Diamond Billiards-?
10) Chagin Valley- nothing out that way, just local bars a very few,but lots of cops watching your car.DUI city.11) Ambassador-Northfield & Rockside rd. closed and sold ,now a Getgo gas station(7-11 with gas and car wash).Staff went to work at Freeway lanes (old palisades-I-271 and Euclid-wickliffe) then all fired.(That's where I practice).

One more thing. I believe that I heard that Northfied billiards actually
bought the tables from Chagrin Valley when they closed. Not positve,
but pretty sure.

What about Jillians in the flats? Was Hoppin during a IPT qualifier , but haven't gone back since

Almost positve that the Jillians in the flats is closed, but the one in
Cleveland Heights on Cedar rd. is still open. Not 100% sure though.

Jillians in the flats closed a couple years ago. There is a Jillians on the Heights in Cleveland Heights that's still open last I heard. When I play (which isn't very often) I go to Wickliffe Lanes they have 12 old Brunswick Anniversary 9 ft. tables with Mercury Ultra and good lighting. Very nice place to play. Chagrin Valley billiards became Northfield Billiards after moving to the Northfield area. Northfield was the best place for players for a few years but now it's gone...and that's sad. Mayfield Rack and Grill which Billiards Digest rated #2 new rooms in 2008 lasted only 6 months. Mayfield was a really nice place..

Man the flats area has really taken a nose dive the last couple of years, lots of good times there when it was alive.
Anyways are there any decent tournys in the area on Saturdays? I've been lookin for a change and enjoy playin 9, 10, or 8 Ball

Hey Ben, not sure about the others, but #3 is off a bit. Rack-n-roll Billiards
and Club-9 were 2 different rooms, and I believe were open at the same
time for a bit. Maybe a year or so. Rack-n-Roll was in mentor close to the
Painesville boder just east of Heisley road. Its now a Winking Lizard bar.
Club 9 was just west of the Great Lakes Mall behind the Wendys. Now
Frank never bought either rooms Tables. He still has the Gandy Big G's that
he always had. He just moved them alot. LOL. Club 9 had Olhausens I
believe, and I'm not sure what Rack-n-Roll had, but they werent Gandy's
to the best of my knowledge. Now you also said that you practice out of
the Freeway Lanes? Are you talking about the huge one on Euclid Ave right
behind the McDonalds and Ford dealership? I could have sworn that they
closed the pool room down, and just tossed some Video games in there.
So please just confirm that they have pool tables. I'm curious.
Thanks, Dom.

Hey Dom,yeah that's the one, the pool room was "GREATLY" downsized:mad:,the used to have like 30 tables back when old man Don(may he rest in peace) owned the place, then he sold out:eek:(I know the new owners too) and the newbies in their infinite wisdom decided to get rid of all but 5 tables(and guess who's the only one that takes care of them...YEP).My table is the very first one you can see when you 1st come in(usually has a reserved sign on it..yeah yeah yeah primadonna ben:rolleyes:).And as far as Frank he told me he had brought them, but then too he also said he brought the building and that bar right on the corner...Seaway...lol...guess he got me huh?!!

As far as Jillians' in the flats,YES IT IS GONE.... I do construction and was their looking at the walls all falling down from the seat of my bulldozer:sorry:,the entire flats area is no more, city council, the mayor, and various deep pockets have decided to make that area lake front living.Jillians' on Cedar rd Hill is still open, the one person (mgr) who'd let me shoot for free quit and moved to Virgina:confused:,So now I don't go there...yeah yeah yeah:embarrassed2: ,and they have yearly contest where the winner gets an paid invitation to the U.S. Open.(hope I said that right)

There is a bowling alley/pool hall on Madison, about W.117 in lakewood, they have some decent tournys, not sure what day of the week though, and best of all,you can't win 3 weeks in a row, helps keep the hustlers in check. And there's a bar out about 200ish Lorain Rd.,with Tuesday tourneys, not many people that can run more that 3 balls in 9ball,easy lunch money, and I keep hearing about something out by the airport, but have never made it.

> It pains me to have to say this, but Starcher's/Doc's is a forklift rental agency as of 4 years ago this past December.

I ran into Chico Minson at Gold Crown Billiards on Manchester Road in Akron the last time I was up there and he said the guy that was leasing it from Dottie (owned another room too) ran both of them into the ground and was was behind on his note,so her son Jim changed the locks on the place and closed it up. Some of the tables were bought by individuals, and some were sold to a room in Cincy.

Back when I used to visit the place on vacations, tough action at just about all price points could be had 24-7. Imagine 20 players Troy Frank's speed (or better) in the same room, night after night. Tommy D.

Is this Docs' last name dockery,(something like that?) if so after he ran the place in the ground he went to work for Danny Vegh,(I know the whole family),he even got the boot from there,if this is the same person.

> Funny you mention that. I never did hear what the guys real name was,all I know is that he had an absolutely gorgeous blonde daughter (think Jennie Finch speed) named Megan that I only saw in Starcher's. That was my favorite poolroom on this planet, along with my fave place to get heart-stopping hot wings from.

Didn't Danny Vegh also used to run North Coast Amusements too? That was who I bought my Schon from back in '91. Tommy D.

Cleveland action dead

yah cleveland is slow, and most action is south in Akron, Crown Billiards Manchester rd, and the old Action Billiards is now owned by Calvin, not much $$ action but clean and good tables. Yes the east side of cleveland Jillians is still open. I would shoot with yah, but I am leaving town for PHX and Dallas.
Good Luck.

I'm not sure, but I wish that I would have known you then, could have gotten you a great deal on it from them, when ever I need a glove or chalk (both black-just cause it freaks people out:eek:) they just give em to me.And speaking of hot-wings,I haven't had a decent one since I stopped drinking(stopped drinking? =see lack of hot wings'..lol)!

Let me know when your going,if your driving that is,been trying to get to Cali for a couple years now!!! True story.

place in cleveland

Dude no real action, best place for some nice table adn food is the Jillian on the east side of cleveland.

Since your going to be downtown from the looks of your map,I'd say for you to try and look on Superior ave. across from the Lottery Commission & Sheriffs' office, just before you cross the Superior/Detroit bridge (ask directions just around the corner from where your staying)there's a bar/pool room on the corner just before you cross the bridge(between West 6th and West 3rd.) I can't recall the name though.Mostly downtown suits in there.

Going to be in Cleveland for 2-5 hrs on our way to Valley Forge, looking for somewhere to hit balls while we wait. Ideally would be close to this location

Would be a bonus if the room had 7' Diamonds so we can practice for Valley Forge.

Thanks,

L & L Billiards is right off of I 480 there. The Garfield road exit I believe.
Just 5 minutes north of the highway. Here the address for your GPS.

4827 Turney Road
Cleveland, OH 44125-2160
(216) 341-6050

Its the "A" on the map. just hit the minus in the upper left corner to zoom out. It'll look just like your map. Oh, no Diamonds, just 9 foot old brunswicks.
