Just thought I would see if others might share what they know about restaurants, action spots, etc., ones to avoid or ones to try.

My experience:

Kildare's Irish Pub - across from the big KOP Mall - 1st Class food, drink & and atmosphere, don't miss their unbelievable bangers & mash.

Bahama Breeze - also near the mall but on the other side - really good carribean seafood, first class atmosphere, fresh fruit mojitos that are terrific though they used to be better before they discontinued using the real sugar cane stirrers.

Fox & Hound - Right by the mall - Pool tables, maybe 7 or 8 of them; as of last year they weren't in great shape but playable - games can be made there. Decent food on par with chains like TGIF or Ruby Tuesdays, maybe a notch better.

There is a great upscale bakery/deli just behind Fox & Hound, the name escapes me but it starts with a B, an Italian name. The building has a stone front. Their breakfast wraps are the nuts and, soups, sandwiches, etc are all five star.

This assumes SBE attendees will ever want to leave the building. :D

Feel free to add to the list of good and bad spots.

Ruth's chris steak house by the kop mall. It isn't cheap but you can your steak with a butter knife.. It melts in your mall.

DON'T EAT at the food stands at the tournament lol expensive and possibly toxic! lol

If you can drive - breakfast/lunch at Duffy's around the corner from the conventions center. It's an AWESOME little place serving the office park behind the Scanticon. It's probably a ten minute walk - they deliver.

Michaels Deli - over by Kinkos on Dekalb Pike - they deliver too and have great great food.

I second Bahama Breeze.

Magiannos - the BIGGEST portions of pasta dishes ever anywhere. The food was good but overwhelming. Make reservations.

Wawa convenience store - open all night fresh hot and cold sandwiches and salads and breakfast biscuits etc..... - Just across Dekalb Pike on 202 behind Chili's. This place ROCKS as convenience stores go.

The Fury-Sterling Booth - Always something going on - lots of fun - we pass out breakfast biscuits for the people who stay up all night partying with us.

Steer clear of:

Everyone else of course spend all your money and time with us :-)

I am here and already excited AGAIN. And I got the jump on ALL of you by getting a new Ride the Nine jacket FIRST - nyah nyah nyah - - - :-)

steaks everywhere...

I forgot about this phenomenon - I don't think I ever saw so many steak houses within one mile than what is in and around the KOP mall. There must be seven or eight of them; Ruth's Chris, Morton's and a half-dozen others whose names escape me.

Notice how the cows walk real quiet down there... ;)

Getting excited; I'm rolling in a few hours.

I'm surprised everyone says Ruth Chris and Mortons. The steakhouse directly across the convention center (I forget the name) has the BEST fillet for the price. Don't forget to get the golf-ball-sized lump crab meat on top!

I think you are talking about Creeds which is just down the road across from the convention center and if so then YES it rocks too.

I have only been there twice in 15 years and it's definitely fine dining.

THAT'S it. Creeds. I'd send Creed's Filet in against whoever's. I can't tell the difference between Creed's and Mortons - except that Creeds is easier on my wallet.

Good info.

I've decided to bust my SBE cherry and will be there tomorrow. If any of you meat eaters want to go get a steak, let's get together.

My memory could be wrong, but I remember last year, many restaurants seem to close early or didn't stay open past midnight. If there are any 24/7 places, please point them out, as I'm not aware.

Foxes and Hounds
I would go back again. As much as I like SBE, I prefer playing on 9 foot tables. Won't hurt to bring your own chalk and balls.

Hooters
On North Gulph Road

Walmart, also on North Gulph Road
Good for food and clothes (exercise, swim trunks for the hotel gym)

I can't recall having been anywhere outside of NYC that will serve a full menu past 10 pm. Most restaurants in most cities (that I've been to) tend to close around 10 pm during the week. They might stay open a little later on the weekend but most places will only serve alcohol at their bar past 10 pm.

Thanks,

At least you're not telling me that when I order spaghetti with marinara, I'm going to end up with egg noodles and ketchup.

Any decent chinese food?

Blue Pacific at the KOP mall - backside. Best chinese/sushi around without going south on 202 to Devon exit....turn left at light at bottom of ramp and then first right at light. There's a hibatchi place on the left there that's SUPER good. 5 mins from expo.

Don't forget Outback Steak House. Five minute drive from the Mall. Always good, always reasonably priced. Creed's, Morton's and Ruth's Chris are always good choices for the well heeled. WaWa and Chili's are also good choices late. Early risers may want to visit the Dunkin Donuts. Decent food and coffee just past Kinko's on DeKalb. If you are really desparate, eat at the convention center. Over-cooked, over-priced food and drink. No different than playing in Vegas at the Riviera.

Thanks for the suggestions
