Wanted to share this article

Hi All,

I was recently interviewed by a Japanese newpaper...and they put a version of the story online as well...so I figured I would share. http://rafu.com/news/?p=10885

3 corrections to the story:
  • I did not WIN the 2002 BCA Open. That is where I achieved pro status for the first time.
  • The timing of John Rousseau's election is incorrect. He was elected in 2009, not 3 years ago.
  • Also, John Rousseau is directly responsible for arranging the Miramar visits between the WPBA and the troops. I don't think that is clearly explained.

I might not have needed to state the corrections...but I want to make sure that anyone who reads it has all the right facts.

I hope you enjoy it!

The Rafu also ran 4 nice color pics of you in the printed article - kudos.
Thanks for supporting the Troops.

Thank you. I haven't seen the printed copy yet...but I have some being sent to me. I was quite honored to be recognized by the Japanese community...and I am quite happy to do what I can to support the troops.

I have made friends with some terrific members of the military through this forum...and I only wish I could do more.

I found this really really deep, especially on a historical level: Japanese- American, military, WWII, mixed races, giving back to one country and being recognized by the other... You have a lot to be proud of, and you make others proud by sharing. Thank you.

No...thank you. Very kind. I don't see it as deep necessarily...but I am extremely proud of my family and my heritage...and again, it was wonderful to be recognized by this Japanese newspaper. I have been contacted by several readers of the paper who wanted to express how cool they thought it was that the paper did a piece about me AND about the WPBA and the tournament. Some even came down to Viejas as a direct result of the article.

Nice article, Melissa - you're certainly one of the best pool players I've had the pleasure of playing and I didn't know of your Japanese heritage - great story, good stuff.

Chris

Thanks for the post, Melissa. You and the other ladies of the WPBA should be congratulated for spending time with the troops. Good luck in your next tournament.

I've only read the Japanese version of Rafu. I never tried the English part.

May be cover on this is in the future?
Good luck!!
