Can anyone shed some light on what genre of rosewood did this old' Dufferin cue come in?

It feels great and is the best buttwood I have ever laid my hands on.

Thanks!!!

its angico

thanks all for your response!

thanks BHQ for your feedback!

i simply love how it hits. anyone who has an old one should send me a PM :)

cheers all

Thanks Kel!

Btw what other woods do they come in other than angico? I've seen them in PPH.

Any ideas?

Thanks again. :)

sometimes it's hard to tell what lies beneath that old finish on the duffs
so, if you find one, dont let the "amber finish" discourage you
the guy i made this one for, was at my shop, when i started turning it, exposing the angico
he was pleasantly surprised to see what he had

At the risk of going against the grain (pun intended),
I'm still not totally convinced that the wood shown in the OP's initial pics isn't Shedua. I'm aware that different cameras can throw different colors due to lighting, etc. and I'm pretty certain that Brent is showing what he believes to be Angico, but it's not the same wood as what the OP is showing.
I believe the OP's wood to be Shedua. Shedua is not a Rosewood.

Hmmm...there is always someone going against the grain. Well well.

To answer the OP's question to me in a different post...I think the standard 4 dufferin high run woods are:

purple heart, Angico, Goncalo Alves, and indeed..Shedua.

I see absolutely no mottling in the dufferin pictured, and nearly every piece of Shedua has at least a little. There are enough pictures of the cue posted I would think one of them would display a more classic QS Shedua image than they do.

Determining wood species from pictures is tough. To be honest, it could be a lot of things, but given what Dufferins are known to be, it nearly must be one of the 3 suggested. I still say it is Angico, but maybe KJ is right.

OP, I think you need to cut it in half and send a few discs around so we can all examine the end grain in person. That goes a long way to accurate typing. :)

Going back with the grain...

First off, Kelly is, as usual, right - it can be tuff enough to ID a wood
even when you have a sample - going from pics is iffy at best.
Add to that Duf's finish which, as Brent noted, somehow made all that beautiful exotic wood look like the same bland orange slug.

I have a ton of old Duf house cues in various states - and have busted the finish off 20-ish of them over the years.

IMHO - the wood in the OP's cue is exactly the same as that in BHQs.
