Does anyone know where I can get one of these extensions to install in one of my cues? A handicapped player I am sponsoring has requested to have an extension put in his cue.

Thanks in advance,

Sung Kang

If you want that "umbrella" version in the pic - I can't help.
But Mezz cues have a extension kit which you could install.
A special bumper is used and the extension is mounted when needed - pretty
much like the small version you could see on Snooker cues.

I have it in stock, but I'm sure a Mezz dealer in your end could sell you a kit.
Maybe a option for you.

Jacoby installs them but I don't know if they sell a kit. If they do, let me know.;)

I think I've seen those Mezz extensions before. It's just an extra handle you screw into the butt right?

If I can't find that set up or figure out how to do it, I suppose I could always do an insert in the butt and leave the bumper off so he could attach it with a quick release pin, but I would really like to find that set up.

In one of the videos by Bert Kinister, I saw that he was using one, and I thought that was pretty cool. If anyone knows how I can get a hold of the dude who makes these, please let me know. Thanks.

Newton, I would be interested in checking out what you have regardless. If you can send me a description and maybe pictures, please do. kzgman@gmail.com

Kevin DeRoo in Vancouver installs them on his cues.

Don't know if he'd sell you one but you one but it won't hurt to ask.

He also sells telescopic mini butts that have a quick release pin. They come in different lengths, you might be interested in those as much easier to install.

I bought 5 of the internal kits from someone in Canada a few years ago but don't remember who. You just twist about a turn or so, pull out and then twist back to lock in place. The guy that I got them from said that they wouldn't change the weight any but it did a little. The only hard part of the installation was getting the short, tapered collar to run true so that it could be bored and faced clean for the kit and re installation. If I remember correctly, Mase, from up in Canada turned me on to the maker.

I saw Masse in his booth at the 1995 World 8-Ball at the Riviera sell that for the maker .
Iirc it was Greg Hearn .
South East was next to their booth and he bought and used some later.
I don't think they are still manufactured.

I have a Meucci with a six inch extension or so. I don't know if Meucci offers it , or just did it or someone else made it because I bought it used.

Cool. Thanks. I checked out the DeRoo website and that is exactly what I am looking for. If they are not too expensive I will get some.

Thank you everyone... This is truly a wonderful place.

The inventor stopped having them made up. I used to install about one a month but don't have any left. I will check with him and see if I can talk him into getting some made.

The only question that I have is what does this thread have anything to do with cue machinery?? This thread should be moved to the wanted/for sale section or the ask the cue maker section..

Sorry Sung for the late reply, I did not see your post until today - monday.

Anyway, it looks like you have found your source for a extension, but here
is what Mezz makes http://www.miki-mezz.com/world/acc/extension/index.html
These are made with a special bumper and the extensions could be all sort
of woods - from plain to exotic.
Anyway, just let me know if there is anything I can help you with.
Personally, I would not like my cue split in several parts - joined with a
metal/plastic rod. It's cool in one way - a little James Bond type of thing :-)
However - in stead I would prefer a "normal" cue with a special
bumper and then just attach a extension when needed...
Just my view though.

Valid point Joe, but I guess we survive this time :)

I am sorry you are offended, Joe. I was going to post it in the ATCM but felt that it might start some more junk over the whole 'sources' thing. I wanted cue makers input mainly and figured more cue makers would notice it here as opposed to the wanted section, and I also figured this is close enough to cue machinery. Next time, I will try harder to get it right. Thanks.

You do make me think.... I have two issues now. I am concerned with the playability of the cue and also the installation of that rod. I also am wondering if this will be enough reach for a wheel chair player.

I actually like this Mezz extension better now, but don't see a need to purchase through Mezz when I could simply tap the butt and make an extra handle. The main thing about that, is I was thinking about the player and how much more convenient this would be for him instead of lugging around a separate piece. Also, I think this is what he wanted.

I am sure I will figure it out. Thank you very much to you sir, and to everyone who was so kind to give their input.

Again, very cool people here on AZ as Eric Wynne pointed out earlier!! I feel so blessed to have access to such a great source of help! God Bless the cue makers of AZ Billiards.

I'm not a cuemaker so you can discard my experience with extensions.. but I'm 5'5" (formerly 5'6") tall and have tried all the extensions here.

I have SE cue with pull out extension. I've seen Jeanette Lee play with a cue with same extension. I don't like this one at all. One, it's not that long .. I think you get 6 to 8 inches (if really interested, I can find the cue somewhere). And once pulled out, it's a bit flimsy as the rod is not that thick. There is a bit of bowing when holding on to the extended portion of the butt sleeve.

Mezz, if not on Mezz cue, the butt needs to be setup to accept the screwed in bumper. Once again, the extender itself is too short for me 6 - 8 inches.

I have another cue with extension made by K. Deroo with insert in the butt through the bumper and screw on the extension (like the one shown on chuckpilegis' photos). Mine was setup to match the screw on the j/b cue with same screw on the joint and j/b section so I had a choice where either section of the j/b cue can screw into the butt or the whole butt for 29 " extension (a bit of overkill). I liked this design a lot. Very firm connection once screwed in.

Since I switch cues often, I now play with an extension that you sleeve over the buttcap and screw to tighten. I haven't noticed any noticeable dent/scratching on the finish. i think I get 16" from this and often I use it with a bridge to mimic my normal bad stroke.

Most wheel chair players I've seen carry both telescopic bridge and extenders.

If I was sticking with one cue, I'd put an insert in the butt for a screwed in extension. This way, a cue maker can make the extension handle as long as the customer wants.
