Most Horrible Instructional or Pool DVDs

I have been doing some research as of late on instructional DVDs as me and Scott Frost are putting together Power One Pocket. I have seen some not so great stuff coming from the pool world and some surprisingly good stuff also. I am curious as to what pool DVDs are to be avoided and are horrible, please tell why also. Thanks.

Willie Mosconi's video was horrid. It's only redeaming factor is you get to see Willie shooting some shots. Which is cool because there isn't alot of good video of him playing.

But as an instructional, it's utter crap.

WE had a DVD in our libruary with a Father & Daughter Team from Florida is was just AWEFUL.

I do not recall the people name but I think the daughter was Joan, or Joanie something. All the VHS's were sold off and now everything is DVD.

I have seen a couple that are really bad in my opinion. I have an older one with Don Feeny that is pretty awful. Think it was made before video editing, granted I don't mind watching a intsructor miss a few shoots now than then... but watching a badly taped video where your teacher is sometimes missing upwards of 50% of the shots he's instructing you on.. and constantly saying "oh, I did that bad" is pretty bunk.

Fast Lenny,

Not to steal your thread, but I'm thinking of putting out my own instructional video titled "Maniac's What NOT To Do Pool Instructional Video". I figure if I was to set up a video camera of me shooting for a couple of hours, I could get enough footage for a Part I and a Part II :D:D:D. Cost would be around $8.99 each, plus S&H.

What do you think???

PS, Take this post with a grain of salt and call me in the morning!!!

I once downloaded a video which was done by the Oyster. I did not buy it after I watched it like many other videos I have downloaded.

The guy just can't play the game. He's your average hack who has spent enough time on the pool table to pot okay and knows the basic position routes and because of that he thinks he's amazing. When he wore a backless piece of 'clothing' (if you can call it that) crawling around on a pool table made of sand I just switched it off. The maths system part was bull*hit. Worst video I've seen by far and a total waste of my time watching it.

I'll second that, if it's the one I saw. Like the owner of the pool room said: "Of course he can do it, he's Willie Mosconi, but I can't!".

Make sure you DVD work in both computers, and DVD player that hook up to the TV, so you don't have to produce a SECOND GENERATION.

The worse video that I have is Wade Crane's " Learn to Play The Winning Way".

He holds up a cue stick. "This is a cue"

I am going to show you a bank shot. He shoots a bank shot.

I am going to show you a follow shot. He shoots a follow shot.

I am going to show you a draw shot. He shoots a draw shot.

He never explains how to do anything.

Totally lame video that doesn't have anything to do with the title.

If some one never played pool they would learn more by watching a few drunks in a bar banging balls around.

THAT IS SAD:angry:

Have been eagerly awaiting this DVD. Do you have a projected release date in mind? Good luck!

Thanks! I would say it should be out by the beginning of May, we are about half done with filming and are reviewing some footage to make sure the camerawork is right. This is our first time doing this but the content is great, video quality is much better then most. I have to say that it is a good deal of work, we have already shot about 4 times and these are during the hours of 3am-6am. Its brutal but we did not want to do it in one night like some of the vids I have seen where they hit the shots terrible and just say its bad luck or whatever, we try to have Scott hit all the shots perfect or very good.

Scott has been wonderful doing this and I feel the way he delivers it is natural as if he was with you giving you lessons, shoots from the hip real good. I just want this to be a great one pocket DVD, better then everything I have seen out there with a good deal of content, no stalling and filling up the DVD with useless drivel, just show the shots and explain them, clear and to the point. The DVD wont be one hour like most, it will be over 2 hours of great content with shot stories and road stories too. Well enough rambling, just hope it turns out great and everyone likes it and most importantly elevates peoples one pocket game.

Talking about Wade Crane, have you seen Cliffs 3 set dvd? Please tell me you and Scott will do a much better job. About 80% of the set is worthless to me.

Haha, Tom, this is one of them we reviewed. Me and Scott sat together and we both could not believe it. For one it seemed like the first 30 minutes was showing racking and breaking the balls. It was like they got together for a day and just hit record and that was that. We are going to put more stuff on this one DVD that is more valuable then all 3 of those DVDs.

This DVD moves from shot to shot and keeps it moving, you will have to go back to this DVD a couple times to absorb all the info depending on your ability and level of play but regardless of your game you will learn something from this for sure. Some of the shots you might have seen and others you have not. I am making something that I would spend my money on, I am very serious as is Scott about putting out the best one pocket DVD ever.

I want people to get 2 hours or more on one DVD of solid instruction where it will be more then there brain can absorb in one sitting so they go back for 2nds and 3rds. Failure is not an option here for sure, if it is not excellent content wise it wont see the market. I will have a few one pocket players I know locally sit in for a private screening to review it and get opinions before it is released also.

Hey Maniac, will you accept Pay-Pal. You all ready have a fan base out there.

Ditto that! I suffered through all three just to say I did, then wound up throwing two of them away. I kept the third cd only because it had a couple of good banks in it. I pissed away sixty-nine bucks on that one.
Think it through, Lenny. Go easy on the dialog, don't show off, and keep to the point.

Mike Sigel's "Perfect Pool" series

I place a vote for Mike Sigel's "Perfect Pool" DVD series with that nipple-head co-host, Kevin Trudeau.

It's not so much Mike's part of the DVD -- there's good stuff there, all around. But it's every 15 seconds of KT interrupting Mike and "reinforcing" some topic that was covered long ago.

When watching it, I find myself screaming at the TV, "shut the f*ck up -- let Mike finish what he was saying!!"

One word, OYSTER :)

Actually, some of his material was good, up until you figured out he was nuts and he showed his a$$. PLEASE tell me Scott will be keeping his clothes on :D

Some of the Feeney videos were difficult because of his dry delivery, but the quality of the information more than made up for it IMHO.
