Any input on Break J/B Cues?

I'm just returning to pool after a very long break. I've got a cue (an old Palmer) that I'm very happy with but I'm looking for a break cue or a J/B cue. I'm tired of using the inconsistent bar cues.

Any thoughts on advantages of dedicated break cues opposed to J/B cues?
Brands, models, etc. any info at all is welcome.

Keep in mind, I'm looking to get by cheap. I know that's the wrong attitude but that's where I'm at.

Is anyone familiar with the KC Jump / Break Cues offered on Ebay?

Thanks,
Johnny

I have one for sale. A stinger made by jerry powers. Its the bocote model....pm me if your interested.
P.s. Did I mention very cheap...lol....

KC is just another Chinese made B/J cue. Which is fair quality and low price. J&J probably the best for $. If you want, probably you should consider Stinger B/J; McDermott make the cheaper one with the same technology.

For what it's worth: I prefer two separate cues. A break cue (with a hard water buffalo tip) and a Jump cue (whith a phenolic tip). I don't like to break with the Phenolic tip.

Just like 8Ball48043 stated I too do not like to break with a phenolic tip. Currently, I have a J&J jump break and it is a fine cue. It jumps very well and crushes the rack, but I can't seem to get consistant cue ball control off of the break with it. I can using a more traditional hard tipped cue.

Before committing to a phenolic tipped break cue I would seriously suggest cracking a few racks with one first.

J&J j/b is a very good value for the money, though.

Good luck-

J.

Hell yeah they are! i'd like to get one and throw a WB tip on it.

The Fury Break/Jump is good. As is the Poison Jump/Break. I have tried both and like them a lot. Have also tried the BK and BK 2 not crazy about them.

I to like just a Hard Leasther tip for breaking find the cue ball gets crazy with a Phenelic Tip.

I would take the Fury over the Poison it's cheaper and more comfortable. Can be had for like $140 on Ebay. I almost bought one after using it but the Seller never responded to me. Now I have Carolina Customs making me a Custom Jump/Break to match the Monster Player they are making me.

Good luck
Rob

The fury"s are the best for the cash.. I have some for sale also ..

I use a $60 Kaiser (made by J&J) Sneaky Pete, It has a large wooden pin in the shaft and is pretty heavy (about 21.5 oz). If you can find one like this, it breaks great. I love it and have yet to find anything that I prefer over it.
The only cues comparable IMO that I have tried were much more expensive, Predator BK/BK2, Jacoby, Sledgehammer... and I still couldn't break the speed I do now with my cheap $60 cue.

One of my friend tried the Kaizer and satisfied with that. Also, fury is also great J/B cue. If you want a dedicated break cue, Spark Break (made by J&J) and Schemelke break cue probably the best for the price/performance.

I've hit with a few and here are my thoughts:

JJ Jump Break, phenolic - Great for the money. Had it for a few years now and everyone I know who plays has broken with it. It's got dings and scratches galore but it's still straight even after the hours of breaking and abuse it's seen. Phenolic gives a lot of power but I found it easier to miscue in the beginning. No wrap feels great! I haven't hit with the leather tip version.

Kaiser wood pin phenolic - Pretty much the same as JJ. The response you get from the wood pin is debatable. I liked it though but very similar to JJ in terms of power.

Varney, phenolic with grooves - Friend's break with linen wrap. Felt pretty good and solid. Phenolic tip pinged pretty loudly. The grooves in the tip were interesting. I felt that chalk fell in them as you chalked and exploded onto the table when breaking. First time I used a wrapped break and it was a nice feeling.

Spark Break Pretty nice. The finish on the shaft wasn't as smooth as others but overall still a pretty solid hitting cue with a leather tip. I felt like it had a great amount of control on the cue.

BK2 Wrappless Phenolic - One of my favorites. Felt natural in my hands and I instantly liked it. Once again, I found myself miscueing a bit until I got used to it. Felt light in my hands and moved smoothly.

Mezz PBII, DI2 Shaft w/ Leather, Dymondwood shaft w/phenolic Friend's break that I will be picking up from him once I've saved up some cash. First off, the shortened length throws you off tremendously. Really trains your arm to put out some serious power. Once you get the hang of it, it feels amazing. The shorter length gives you less time/distance for you to screw up your shot. The DI2 Shaft hits nice but the Dymondwood was out of this world. It made the entire cue front heavy but it just felt right to me. The new weight + short length make my arm feel like a pendulum and I believe it has helped my break stroke. I just need to work on putting more power into it once my new form is more stable. Should definitely give this one a try if you can get your hands on it.

Varney

I've been hitting with my Varney for about a month now, it's a bit shorter than standard. At first I felt like I had lost some control, but like anything else, it just took a little time to get used to.

Now I'm very pleased, I break well with it, and it jumps easily. This is my first J/B cue, I've always broke with my Brick player, so I can't compare it to anything else.

If you are playing league, better check to find out whether or not your league allows phenolic tips or not.

"MASTER9BALLER" is a McDermott Dealer and sells the McD "STINGER" J/B for a GREAT discounted price, with the SAMSARA leather tip. This tip hits as hard as a phenolic and is LEGAL in ALL leagues. Besides a solid hit, it jumps Hella EASY!!

For the money, you just can't get a better breaking cue.

MY opinion.

Mezz PBII, DI2 Shaft w/ Leather, Dymondwood shaft w/phenolic

Ben, you have the tips switched around, the DI shaft has the 'Sonic' Tip, which is Mezz's version of phenolic, in actuality its carbon fiber resin. The Dymondwood has the Samsara Jump Break Tip on it, which is leather.

Thanks to everyone and all of the great feedback.

I just made a deal for the new Pechauer Break cue. I've got a good feeling about it and the guy who's selling it. Sometimes you've got to trust your gut.

I'll have it soon and post a review for anyone who might be interested.

Thanks again for all of the advice.

Johnny
