The best drill you have ever tried

Yeah this is a good drill, quick question Ken. Do you do the drill with 15 balls or 14 balls? I have always done it with 14 not 15.

I find the ball on the foot spot is a run ender every time

CueTable Help

This is the L drill I always do.

CueTable Help

I do it with 5 balls, then 7 then go up by 2 after successfull completion.

It looks so simple, but I suggest you offer the 15 ball L-Drill as a proposition bet. Youll win alot more than you will lose, trust me.

Jim Rempe's brainwash drill: Throw all 15 balls on the table, start with ball in hand and run out without touching a rail.

Haha joking~!

I like the ghost. Start with 3 balls, break, no BIH, try to run out. Repeat and rinse till there are 9 balls in the rack.

I usually get stucked at 6 balls to 7 balls.

Is that going in order or just random?

The hardest I ever tried was this damn brainwash drill. I can't get through one. The balls that end up near the rail are impossible. You can kill one of them with your BIH but what about the other 1/2/3 that end up pretty close?

One I actually can do and enjoy is the L drill, and it's very handy for learning those soft spin shots off the rail, and the occasional forced shot with minimal angle.

Otherwise, 6 or 9 ball ghost is some of the best training you can have. Also try just running as many as you can in straight pool.

The very best game I ever played for myself is..Shooting them off the spot. The goal is to beat your own high score, so it is easy to track your progess.

Start with ball in hand, and the object ball on the spot. Shoot the ball off the spot into the closest corner, and put one back on the spot. Play shape to shoot it off the spot into the same hole. You can only take the ball in hand on the first shot, after that is is up to your cue ball control, and simple shot making to get higher scores. Score is finale when you miss.

This is a great game to learn all the basics, and to get corfortable at the table. It teaches you all the shots you should never miss. Missing a tough shot is fine (even expected by some) missing a easy one is not ok. This game teaches you to make all the easy ones, and get the shape on the next easy one.

You can play alternate corners as well.

If you make it to one hundred, and you think this is easy move to the sides for your humble pie. If you ever want to really see how pathetic you are shoot at the top corners...hehehe Good luck chuck.

I want to work on getting exact postion or as close to as possible as needed ? What drills for that ?

I have three basic types of drills I do.

1. Single shot drills. This just doing one type over shot over and over. I will use various types of english and speed to learn where the cue ball will go and to get a feel for how certain types of english works. This is one of the most boring drills, but it is the most important. IMHO.

2. All 15 ball drills. Put all balls out there and run as many as you can. I vary the size of the grouping when I put the balls out there. Like, I will put all of them in the rack area except maybe for one or two and with BIH try to see how many I can run and learn to open up the rack.
Also, spread out between the side pockets and corners pockets and do the make a ball but no hit a rail or another ball drill.
Also, spread them out over the table, and do banks.
And so on.

3. Tangent line drill. Set up a single shot drill. say a simple, easy cut shot into a corner pocket where the cue ball can make it to the rail after the shot. Take another ball and place it on the rail where you think the cue ball will hit after you make the ball. Do the shot and see if you hit the ball on the rail with the cue ball. Do this using all the different types of spin there is. It helps to learn where the cue ball will do after hitting the object ball. Then remove the ball on the Do the shot and let the cue ball go into the rail to see how the cue ball will come off a rail.

In each of these drills, its important to practice different spins, stroke speeds, types of bridges used, use of mechincal bridge, shooting over balls when possible and so on.

Craftsman?

My Craftsman has lasted a really long time, but my Chicago Electric was cheaper and does the same job!

Sorry I couldn't resist! LOL

My business partner, Don Owen, came up with an idea for a new pool game. We worked on it for a little while and have come up with what we think is the perfect combination. It's called Pool-300.

www.pool300.com

The game is completely offense and will definitely improve your game. We started a league, as you can see on the website, in Dallas and it seems to be doing very well. The players love it! It's really cool to see so many players games improve.

Try it out and you will be hooked.

that looks like a fun game to try!

Ghost Ball

I like the ghost ball. I did it before I knew what it was called. I get stick usuallt 5-6 balls. It demands shot making and cb control that you want.
I think that 300 game looks like fun as well. I see it is broken down to 5 "frames" so this would move a little faster.

9 ball Drill

Here's a 9Ball Drill i do.The drill is not as easy as it's look's.
You have to run out 'the ball's have to go in intended pocket and
you can't touch another ball.
There's alot of cueball control going on this drill.

That looks FREAKIN difficult!

How do you play shape from the two to the three? The same applies to the other side of the table.

twal

Actually we have a league for pool300, and we play 3 frames per round, and 2 rounds per night.

It really is allot of fun, and will improve your game. Most come into it thinking it's going to be easy, but it's not. One little mistake will end your inning and you must have strikes or spares to compound your score.
