How to remove the Private Message count restriction ?

Ah.

I was thinking unused ones PMs delete after a while. I mean if nobody checks it in a month, it prolly wasn't important. Inactive accounts should too. We have 22800 users but really only a fraction of that has signed on this year.

Think about it this way... even if space is at a premium, the server has no problem making room for every post everyone has ever made. If I can make 5,000 posts and not tax its capacity (not to mention responsiveness), why can't I make 200+ private messages? PMs are just another type of post, and posts have no limit.

I don't think there is any auto-pruning of PMs, posts or users active in this forum. Maybe it is in place, not sure.

I agree with you it shouldn't be much load anyway, but the quota on PMs is probably there to prioritize resources (including CPU time) for posts rather than PMs. In the end, it is just a tool for the forum owner to optimize the forum maximizing overall user experience while minimizing hosting costs.

How do you divert them to your e-mail?

I believe what he's saying is, there is a option to get a email notification that you have received a PM. In that email notification, the actual message is there too.

I think what people seem to be missing is this....

This program I gave a link to is 100 times better then some of the methods people are describing here. Sure, a person could save them as a text file, they could save the email notification, they could take screen shots of them... hehe

but WHY would anyone do that, IF there was a program that was built for one thing and one thing only.. to store a database of your PM's from forums?

Would you rather look at a mass of text like this.. and this only 1 message, if you download all of them, it's going to hurt the eyes, I tell you

WOw, that PM reader is a life saver... don't know why anyone would want to use anything else

Thanks for turning me onto it!

I'll Paypal you 500.00 later today for the link to that
!

OR would you rather look at your PM's in this?. I had to block out peoples names and subject lines for privacy reasons, but you get the idea. All in one place, You can click on them, sort them, all your formatting is preserved in the messages, Links are there, smilies are there.
