Need help identifying wood on cue.

I recently purchased this cue and was unsure of the wood type. Looking for expert help on identifying the wood. I think that it might be Indian Rosewood or Macassar ebony. Thanks for all the help in advance.

wood guess

I have some Indian Ebony that was sold as gaboon ebony that looks very similar. Definitely not as choice as high quality gaboon ebony.

From the photo's it appears to be Macasar or striped ebony, I do not think it is possible to identify the species.

So you are saying that i cant identify the wood unless i send it back to Southwest and have them give me the exact stats on the cue? Thanks

It looks like some rather bland figured Macasar Ebony to me also. It plays pretty nicely and is easy to work. It's usually not quite as dark as East Indian so that the figure usually stands out a little better. Although in the last 5 or 6 years I've only made a few cues out of it, in the 90's I probably made 50 or 60. It's a real good cue wood and the cost is not much different than Gaboon.

I've had Macassar ebony and East Indian Rosewood that looked like this. Some woods just can't be definatively identified when it's finished. Some woods I need to smell to know for sure. Anyone else notice that Bocote smells like dill when cutting or boring into it?
 
I have seen some older Southwest's that look just like this. They've had LOA that state its Cocabola. It looks damm near ebony.

I was saying that it was not ebony ebony. The ebony SW that i have is pure black. This is some form of ebony. Does anyone know how long it would take Laurie to get back with me on the identification of this wood. Can anyone give me her email address. I am at work and currently don't have it on hand. Thanks for all the help and maybe someday in the future, we can all find out what this is.

Only one I've ever had. Not sure if it's still a good one.

Hard as heck to label wood with just a picture on the internet. If I were a gambling man though, I'd say Macassar.

Macassar ebony. SW did not/ does not use East Indian Rosewood.

OK, I have the answer and i will list it below but first i would like to thank everyone for trying to help. Southwest cues has been wonderful and has
gotten back to me within 12 hours of me sending them the email and props
to them for a speedy answer.

"Hello Scott

#47693 is solid nose Macassar ebony. Left here in October 1993 19.6 oz; 2 shafts 13mm. It started out in Southern California."
