looking at some threads on here about Earl, just gonna tell you youngens about life in pool..The only players that drew a crowd out in Vegas(on the tv table) for a match was Earl, Efern, Johnny, and Francisco, when there were other matches that we could have watched but we had the legends in our life that you may never see at this level again....Knock them if you want, but first know what your saying....Earls not perfect, but he's the best 9 ball player in the last 25 years...Efern is the best player inyour lifetime, your grandaddy's lifetime, and your future grand kids lifetime...so what you saw from Earl being Earl...Cherrish it!!! Im going to cherish a guy who said over and over he wants to wear a "divers helmet" when he plays. One day it was a football helmet and the next the full diivers bell he was calling for. Seems reasonable. I mean afterall, no one would tell Jack Nicklaus he couldnt wear a divers bell.

Did you catch the point? you'll never see this again in your life time...enjoy it at the highest level,,not at he local pool room, cause oh..i do that, but I'm a wanna be..lol

legands live on

I heard efren is retiring I'm sad now. I remember watching them play for the first time ever. Earl signed my cue and I watched Efren shoot a shot that made me fall in love with pool. He fired a shot from the end rail and sizzled the ball into the corner pocket. The ball was 4 diamonds from the pocket. He did it again and again. Same results. This tall slender goofy man. Then he went over to the 3 cushion and selpt on the bench. What a champ. I'm still amazed to this day of those shots.

Earl gave me the show of my life as a kid for an hour the guy couldn't miss and kept smiling as he talked about his accomplishments and pool. I loved every minute of it.

There's a simple reason why these players get so much attention by pool fans, myself included. TV! They've all got lots of TV time. There are plenty of other big time pool players that few people care about because they lack TV time. I love watching Earl Strickland go on full tilt and his great play.

Earl is a great player and a hell of a character! Everyone wants rubber necks to see this train wreck...

Throw the TV out the window, Strickland no class

I live here in Vegas so I was able to go and watch quite a few of the USOPEN 10 ball tournament. It was nice to see all of the great players behaving themselves. But then there's EARL who is getting beat by a kid who's probably half his age. The kid is running out when he can and when he can't he plays a dead nut safe leaving Earl 2 or 3 rail kicks to make the hit. Anyway the kid (I think his name was Jeremy Sossei- I apologize if I miss-spelled his name) was on the hill and Earl needed four or five or more and the kid played a good safe on the one ball. Earl *****ed and moaned to the audience-- I was a little too far away to hear his exact words, but after he missed the kick and fouled HE JUST TOOK HIS CUE AND RAKED ALL THE BALLS OFF. FORFEIT, SURRENDER, NO CLASS, whatever you want to call it, EArl should have congratulated his opponent, maybe said something like "keep up the good work, your on the right track" but just raking the balls and going away mad??? Earl always complains about how pool players dont make any money compared to golfers, but golfers act like gentlemen and behave themselves, yeah they might go back to the casino, lose $600,000 gambling, stiff a $25,000 bar bill, throw the TV out the 15th floor window into the pool, but at the event they show class and respect for their opponents!!!!

Don't forget John Daly.....tell me he's never thrown the towel in before. Never played drunk, never hit balls over the gallery, never cursed.

Get off the high horse...Putt.

Didn't your Mama ever tell you "If you don't have something good to say about someone, don't say anything". Apparently not...:(

High Horse???

Pool players play against each other and golfers play against the course, so I guess comparing pool players to golfers was a bad idea. What I was really trying to point out is how pool players (pro) always cry about their sport lacking top sponsorship (Earl always compares himself to pro golfers) and event $$$, but then Earl doesn't let his actions pave the way. Pool is in need of goodwill ambassaders, someone the younger players-the future of pool ---- can look up to, and EARL would be a great one, if he chose to be. I don't understand why he doesn't give his opponents some credit for playing well and beating him. His time has come and gone. he should use his "celebrity" status more for the goodwill of pool. many of the people he competes against weren't even born yet and he was a world champion. It largely was him who brought pool back from the dead. Show some class, respect your opponent!!!!IMO

You don't understand Earl...as most people don't.

When he's not playing in a tourny, he's a different animal. Away from competition.....

I watched him spend time with Brendan Crockett during the World 10 ball tourny last week. He loves the kids, and the game.

Sure enough, he's having difficult times trying to compete these days. His time still hasn't "come and gone" quite yet. He IS the reigning US Bartable Champion.

Go back and read earlier posts about Earl, and his meds. That might put a brighter light on it for you. Instead of jumping in a postive thread and bashing him, when you have no idea of what he's going thru.

Earl is Earl.

When does that apply to Rick S.?

I watched Jeremy play at the Derby. Hell of a player! We'll be hearing more about him is my bet. Earl is still the pearl! He loves this game! Although, I hate to see him lose his cool, I can't help but like him. I once watched him get his ass handed to him by J. Brumbach. He was fuming, and fixing to storm out of the tournament area. I started not to ask, but my then girlfriend wanted a photo with him. So, I asked. He didn't want to at first, but he did pose patiently while I fumbled with my camera. I got the picture, and he got ambushed by more fans. He stayed until everyone got their pics. I told him I was sorry for starting this. He said "I hate to dissapoint the fans". "The real fans came to see me play well, and I let em down". I'll never forget that. That is what I think of when he lets his emotions get the better of him.

This is, in my opinion, false. In fact, to my recollection, the TV table match that drew more fanfare and more crowd enthusiasm than any other was Shane Van Boening vs Darren Appleton in the 10-ball event. I had a VIP ticket and had to watch most of it standing.

Earl is a top player who many times get attention because of his bad boy image, and antics. He is like the Tennis guy John McEnroe who also got lot of attention because of his on court antics.

I sometime wonder if Earl does as he does with out burst, and antic to hopefully get the attention of the people who make the rules.

His motivation being the cleaning up of Pool to be a semi gentleman sport similar to Golf with one governing body, who could have one set of rules for both the amateurs, and pros.

If Pool was more like Golf maybe more sponsorship would come, more money would come and in the long run Pool could benefit.

Earl know well about Golf as he plays that game well also!

1)Why do people always compare golf to pool? There is NO comparison what so ever?NONE.
2)I DO aknowledge Earls accomplishments in pool, but I do not like how he does not respect other players of the game. After all,If you WANT respect you have to EARN it,and thats where I have a problem.
3)People always say away from pool Earl is a great guy...........it should be the other way around. In a match,He should respect his opponent, the ref,and the crowds that come out to watch him.And I'm sorry, but this doe'nt happen too often.
