Hello Everyone i think this issue has to be spoken about there has been alot of negative post on the color of cloth at HollyWood Billiards i believe it's negativity like this That is hurting our sport When Pat an Jim at accu-stats were having problems with there stream alot of us stood our ground and stayed while jim was working issues out and i was glad to be part of the group. But because of some bad blood between some folks I have seen a decline on certain shows. This could be the path to doom or we can group together and turn a Negative into a positive.I think helping one another is 1 way.

All Ideas Welcomed

Maybe I'm missing something... but people complaining about the color of felt is hurting our sport?? I don't get it. How exactly is that hurting our sport?

I have never been to Hollywood Billiards, and I do not know the reason for RED Cloth, is it a theme color, or was it just choosen to be different that Green, or Blue?

Cloth

Hi Trig well i heard alot of people saying they can't stand to watch because of the color and i respect that. But some of the same people posting it were watching so why try to post negative Threads about each other instead of try to help each other if i'm stepping out of line here i'm sorry.

I think what it does is steer people away instead of supporting the promoters who are trying to help our sport that's all.

Supporting the Seminoles for adding money to pool is one thing but no one needs to support "pimp" red cloth.... Watching pool on that is like watching a bad movie from the 70's.....

I think the only villian here is Hollywood Billiards. It's a slap in the face to the sport and to the Seminoles who have supported pool so strongly the last decade.

They just HAD to change the cloth a week before the event? Couldn't wait a few more days before they implemented the great plan to save their 'club'? Ridiculous.

Red cloth IS controversial.
If i had a choice of colors to play on i would choose (in order)
Green - Blue - Camel
But Red cloth would not stop me from entering a tournament.

What red cloth did for Hollywood Billiards...

I think you got a lot of value.
The power of this forum is opinions..we shouldn,t mind controversy.

What we don't need is apathy

Put viruses in all video games!!

Seriously-Until something 'real' is perceived to be cooler or as cool as something electronic, pool cannot grow imho. It's gonna take a while but I think it will happen. I probably wont be around for it.

I think what HollyWood Billiards is trying to put on a great show by covering the tables for this event and i commend them for this.We need all the support out there anyway not to get of topic. How can we help the sport we all love. Thanks dave for your response.

Ideas Welcome.

Red cloth sucks and people should say so. A lot of people myself including though not color blind have difficulty seeing properly against a red background. The edges of the balls tend to get a little lost. Besides that where there is red cloth there is red chalk which will wind up on your hands and shaft which in my opinion produces a pretty ugly shaft.

<EDIT> BTW, I just looked at the stream, I wouldn't call that red cloth. Burgandy? Purple-red? At any rate, though ugly it doesn't produce the sight problems red does.

I don't see what the big deal is.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, good or bad, and Hollywood will have to deal with the consequences of their decision of using red cloth.

It happens in business all the time. Good product, good business good feedback, bad product, bad business bad feedback.
Good and bad being subjective and determined by the customer.

I don't think that people commenting about the red cloth is wrong. I am pretty sure the H.B. had a pretty good idea what might happen if they put red cloth on some of the tables.

If someone doesn't like the comments about the red cloth, and feels that they should remove each and every comment that is about red cloth from the chat, why bother with chat to begin with?
You always have to take the good with the bad.
But it's 2 completely different things, to remove insults about red cloth, while also removing questions and comments about red cloth.

If that's the case, and there is to be nothing about red cloth in the chat, just get rid of chat and that's the end of the problem.

But expecting everyone to be all smiles singing kumbaya together in chat cause the stream is so wonderful? That's just unrealistic.
PLUS, this is ONE STREAM. It's not like people are complaining of red cloth EVERY stream/venue.

Why do you even bring up bad blood? That is a much larger issue and has little to do with red cloth. Bad blood is never going to change though, so you might as well just accept it.

If the world of streaming ends up being a complete flop, and eventually, is no longer an option, so what?
Pool goes back to the way it always was.
What else is new?

This is public forum, people post if they like something, they post if they dislike something. If you took 3 or 400 of the active posters here, put them all on a conference call, and said we're taking a historic pool hall and slapping red felt on all the tables, just in time for a tournament, your going to get a large majority of people saying RED SUCKS.

Your going to get some that say, "I hate red felt, but I'll still come."

Your going to get some that say, "I hate red felt, I'm not going to come"

Your going to get some that say, "Oh, just get over it, everyone has to play on it"

Your going to get a small minority say "Cool, red felt.. Cool"

and then you will always have someone say "This is what ruins the sport of pool"

Nothing against the OP here... but am I the only one who is sick and tired of hearing the phrase "This is what ruins the sport of pool" or "This is why pool will never be popular".

I've heard that line almost every day in here. It's gambling, it's pool players attitudes, it's how they dress, it's how they show up late, it's this, it's that. It's always something that is ruining pool.

It's running a close second to the daily aiming conspiracy theories.

We're never going to have live pool televised on a major network, on Fri, Sat and Sunday, like Golf. It's never going to be like Poker or Basketball, or Football, or Hockey, or Baseball or Fake Wrestling, or UFC, or Boxing.

Let's just enjoy the game we love.... This mantra that's being pounded into people's heads of "All you people need to support pool, or you're going to be part of killing it" is getting old.

You can't guilt people into buying everything on the market pool related.

I would like to see the sport I love become a huge success and have live tournaments on TV all weekend, but I will leave that to the marketing geniuses, to do their job. I will buy a PPV if I can afford it and the quality is good and there's players I want to watch. I will buy a DVD for the same reasons. I will buy pool equipment as I need it or can afford it. I will turn up to any pool tournaments that I can and buy food and drink if I can afford it.

But no one is going to guilt or pressure me to do something "Because if I don't, I"m not supporting pool"

If I won the lottery, I would become a pool derelict, traveling around the country staking players, putting on huge tournaments, setting up TAR with all of the latest equipment and hire a crew for them and sending them around to film all the tournaments and huge money matches. I'd blow a big chunk of it, because I love action and I love to be around action. Pool action, that is:thumbup:

End of rant:D:D

Off topic I know but I dont think a three hundred percent increase in spending on TAR Equipment would produce a 5% better product. They are that good right now!

Al,

A post about the cloth color is good discussion, it's the timing of it that was questionable. The color is actually fine. The chalk is another story.

When you associate with negative people, bashers, whatever you want to call them, it gets on you, like a disease. I reccommend to avoid the bad mouthers at all cost and life will be much more enjoyable.

Thank you for your response catscradle and superstar and everyone is entitled to there opinion what we are trying to do is find a way to make our sport more popular.By negativity we are only hurting the sport. Thanks again

I don't know the reason Hollywood went with red cloth, maybe it was discussed somewhere on another thread.

Streaming is definitely a big boost for the future of our sport and it would seem that if Hollywood were interested in helping to ensure that future, they would have gone with green or blue cloth. The Simonis tournament blue cloth appears to be the absolute best color for video streaming - on this cloth the balls are superbly defined.

And, by the way, I had a table with red cloth at a home I owned in Florida in 1978. I was 21.

I also bought for that house, a round red velvet bed with a hood canopy that featured mirrors, a tv, and a stereo. I swear this is the truth and I have pictures to prove it. lol!

Now that I'm all grown up I have Simonis tan cloth on my home table which I like very much but, again, I have to say that for streaming, tournament blue can't be beat.

Best,
Brian kc
