hello azers, i am currently in the process of tryin to start a handicapped 9ball tour in central mo. i am going around the state the next two to three weeks to try and find hosts for the tour. i have been playin pool for 20 years and love the game. it sadins me to see the shape pool is in in my area. i have alot of details to work out still , but im hopin that maybe i can get some ideas on here. i have currently sent an emaik to billiards digest about advertising with them, still waitin on response. any ideas out there that may help?

Troy, this is a great idea! I am behind you 100%, and I will help in any way I can. Obviously, coming up with a fair handicapping system that people can believe in will be one of the major keys. I'm sure you already have some good ideas; I may have a couple to contribute as well. Looking forward to talking more about this with you.

hey aaron, im goin to play at billiards tonite. if you could make it up we could discuss ideas.

I'll be watching this thread as well. Do you have your pool halls lined up or are you still looking for hosts?

Troy,

Take a look at the KC rated 9-ball tour for some ideas. Their site is http://www.kc9ball.com/ The biggest obstacles are getting fair handicaps, finding rooms/sponsorship, picking good dates (conflicting tournaments), etc. Good luck with your venture.

I agree with this whole post especially the conflicting dates. Scheduling is a big key because there are some events you want to dodge and some where it will be advantageous to your tour to give the lesser players a place to play at when all the good players leave the state for a weekend.

hey darryl, i was going to base handicapps similar to those in kc. i will be looking at their schedule to try and pick proper dates. thanks , and i may pm you if i run into a snag

REAL 10-ball (call shot) would be my vote. I'm so sick of people slopping their way through a rack.

I also like the 10-ball idea, it would be unique to the area. Just be careful about making the races too long especially in 10-ball as time could be a factor. You will want to keep the tournament to 1 day format if possible. The KC rated tour uses a green fee which is nice due to the amount of games that can be played.

Another way to handicap an event is structured entry fees. They do this in the old fooseball tournaments. A player pays 40, B player pays 20, C player pays 10, etc. Not sure how it would work in the pool world but it's another food for thought.

If there is anything that I can do, feel free to pm.

also anybody interested in sponsoring this tour feel free to pm me. anyone from host locations to cue makers. thank you

what does everyone think about a staggered entry fee? for example, a and b players would pay 30, c players would pay 25, and d players would pay 20.

I like it but I suspect people would disagree with their rating to try to get a lower entry fee. I hope you get something together, we could use something like this.

I think Al hit the nail on the head there... until the handicapping system is solid, people will probably try to find a way to get in cheap and steal the tournament.

on the other hand, $20 for a d-player is kinda high. I don't know too many people willing to toss that money away since it's highly unlikely they'll get close to the money brackets. - maybe 30-20-10 for the split?

You might want to check out http://www.playerspool.org/ and see if they have any options for you, or at least maybe some info you can use? I only mention it because they've been emailing me on facebook like crazy; but honestly i haven't been paying attention.
