You will probably find the best players and most action in Snookers. I don't know if Country Club is open (rumors it's closing were all over the place), but that is probably at least an hour closer to NH than Snookers. There is also a very nice place in Clinton but it's not a happening place for "players". Free pool on Tue, Wed, Th, and cheap drinks though.

PM me if you want to play closer than RI, I can probably meet up with you somewhere. Although most of my playing time is spent in RI at Chalks, it's a bit of a trip to that area for you.

I'm thinking of taking a trip up around the NE as well - here is my tentative itinerary (please let me know if I've missed anything and any trmt info would be appreciated):

-- RI --

Snookers Providence, RI

-- CT --

Pool Table Magic Windsor Locks, CT

optional:
Ultimate Billiards Club, Berlin, CT
World Championship Billiards Manchester, CT

-- MA --

London Billiards, Worcester, MA

-- NY --

Golden Cue Billiard Lounge Albany, NY

optional:
trickshot billiards in clifton park
Main Street Billards Amsterdam, NY

IMHO, London Billiards sucks. Last few times I was there, the equipment was dirty, the tables are setup at odd angles (with one being on a hump in the floor). Plus I have seen them wax the balls which caused all sorts of fun things to happen with spin. Since Country Club is now closed and Brighton Billiards closed a while ago, I really can't suggest any good "happening" rooms in MA. I do like BreakAway Billiards in Clinton, but not because of the action, it's cheap and good tables. In RI, you may also want to check out Chalks in Woonsocket, about 20 mins from Snookers. It's usually quiet but on Mondays and Th. when league / tournament is on, you can probably get a good game with at least a B player.

About the best room that I know of in MA is The Fan Club in Wareham.
Also, Bo's Billiards in Warwick RI is very nice, I believe it's the old Boston Billiards.

Never heard of The Fan Club, from the pictures looks like it has a good amount of people that go there though. May have to take a trip there on a Sunday to check out the tournament there. Tables look like bucket pockets though, and the cloth looks a bit dirty from the pics.

Yeah, not quite Snookers quality but not bad either. With CC closed it's probably the best MA has to offer, at least this side of 495.

It looks like I am leaving for New Boston, New Hampshire in a week or two. I might be there up to 6 months. Any pool to be played around there?
Depends upon what you're looking for. There is a Boston Billiards in Nashua and a place called Maximillans in Tyngsborough, MA just over the border from Nashua, NH. Max's have non-handicapped leagues Tuesday and Wednesday. Too late to join, but you can just drop in and substitute and they always need subs over the summer. The Wednesday league has the better talent, but frankly they're both weak over the summer. There is a place in Merrimack, NH right on the Daniel Webster Highway, or there was 2 years ago at any rate. There is of course Snookers in Providence, but that is a bit of a ride and might be better reserved for the weekend. I understand most of the pool in Manchester is in private clubs. A few years ago a guy I new opened a place in Keene, NH where he'd have the college scene to sustain the place, I presume he is still there. World Class Billiards in Peabody, MA is a good place, but a bit of a ride. There are a couple of other places, but I can't think of there names right now.

I see the Boston Billiard Club in Nashua...anybody ever been there? Looks decent.
It is okay, but it is your typical "nightclub that has pool tables". Tables aren't bad, but they sometimes move them for night club type things and that obviously sometimes effects them. As I said in my other post check out the leagues at Max's in Tyngsborough. http://www.maxamillians.com/ They might be less than your speed, but because they're non-handicapped if you win you'll always be playing the best the place has to offer. In the winter Paul Tocchi who might be the best player in NH plays in those leagues, but they're weaker in the summer.

Sounds good. I will be sure to check them out when I get to town!! This trip is going to be awesome!

Dont' forget, if you head on down to Foxwoods or the Mohegan Sun, there's a nice room right there in nearby New London called the Gold Crown Billiards. All Gold Crowns, and pretty well kept.

I heard some tings about the maxamillians that they did not keep the equipment in shape, bad cloth and such, that true?

they are definitely not gold crowns or diamonds. they used to have a mish-mash of connolly tables.

guy

They are actually all the same, Connolly Ultimates, the one with the 2" slate.
The tables themselves are excellent. The state of repair varies. For a while the owner let them get pretty shabby. Last I played there was about 3 or 4 months ago and for the most part they were in good shape. The owner has kind of turned responsibility for the pool stuff over to an employee and she is sincere in wanting to make the place better.
YMMV.
Steve.

Best weekly tournament, Wednesday nights Providence Rhode Island. An hour from Boston.

Every other Saturday, World Class Billiards, in Peabody, Mass. Handicapped, $20 entry fee.

Any questions send me a pm.

I attended the Saturday tournament today at World Class Billiards. They were expecting 20-25, but only got 12 this go-round. Sign in was at 10am and it started around 11am...ended around 3:30pm.

$25 entry fee, double elimination, alternate breaks. Handicaps were 3-6 and most players were 4 and 5 with only one 6. Jose Pinto beat Joe Kalanaues in the finals.

It was my first visit to the place and I like the old school feel of it. I will be coming back and I'll be coming back for this tournament for sure.

I'm not much of an action guy, but I got the feeling that if I was looking for it at this place...it could be found.

I did see Tom poke his head and I meant to introduce myself, but he left before I got a chance. Thanks for posting this Tom and letting me know about this tournament.

I've played in the 9-ball tournament a few times at World Class, and it's a good tournament. Yeah, 12 is really low, but I guess it's summer, so numbers would be down. A few months ago, they were getting closer to 40, so the attendance varies widely it would seem. It's certainly the room in this area to go to for 3-cushion given the equipment and the players. As for action, I can't say much about it, except that there are definitely good players in there, and you'll most likely find someone to play for something. It just probably won't be for a lot, and people will certainly not be coming over to your table and bugging you to gamble, which can be a good or a bad thing, depending on your objectives.
