Top 10 sweetest strokes of all time

My selection was left off your list! Harold Worst.

Whereas I enjoy seeing pretty, fluid or silky, soft and smooth, even side-arm and slip strokes and powerful strokes, I'd think that by "sweetest strokes" you probably mean "greatest strokes." The greatest strokes of all time should be judged by what those strokes had accomplished as far as degrees and consistency in measurements of spin, hit, and direction. From that viewpoint I'd have to go with the great Harold Worst.

Eddie Robin

Eddie love your books, I have them all.

On Harold Worst is there any video of him shooting as I know most have never seen what his stroke looked like, I know I have not seen any footage. I have heard what he could do was unbelievable and was truly effective.

Glad to see you posting Eddie. Write more books please.....

Freddy the Beard has a couple of videos of Worst on his website....I forget the name of the site though.

about time!

all of you don't know a sweet stroke when you see one. when it comes to the sweetest stroke ...there's only one guy who has that....

That man is: The One and The Only....DALLAS WEST!

He has the longest, smoothest and accurate stroke born of women....BAR NONE!

He puts EVERYBODY TO SHAME!

i couldn't believe i had to read so many pages before someone mentioned the best stroke in history! this guy came to my poolroom to visit the owner, he hit some balls, and i was like wow, that is what a stroke is supposed to look like!

Stalev has one of the most powerful and pretty strokes you will ever see. Not by the book but so beautiful and effortless.

Very true.

But the 'sad' thing is that as he changed to Pyramid (Russian Billiards), he took up a 27 ounce cue and is hitting approximately twice the weight of balls now, so the smoothness of his stroke is pretty much gone.
At IPT, eventhough he had started to practise Pool again, he still played with an 23 ounce Pyramid cue, and his stroke were nowhere near what it used to be.

I've seen all the best players of this millenium shooting, and no-one has impressed me as much as Stalev did in -98 in a tournament which he won in Europe.

Dallas and Lou

Dallas and Lou. That nice extension Dallas gets comes from dropping the elbow on follow through. Noticed Lou was still getting around a table mighty spry! :D

Another vote for Dallas...

The first time I saw Dallas West play I was stunned. Instroke75 summed up my reaction perfectly: "that is what a stroke is supposed to look like!" Like so many of the very best, he made the game look simple and effortless.

Other favorites: Buddy Hall, Mike Sigel, Earl, and (on the women's side) Jeanette.

After a lot of thought ...

Dallas " the Hawk" West, I also think he belongs on the sweetest strokes list; I mostly saw him playing 9-ball
"King James" Rempe
"Surfer Rod" Curry
Jay "Swanee" Swanson, he seemed to get maximum cue ball action from minimum effort
Steve "the Machine" Mizarak
Buddy "the Rifleman" Hall

Although there are plenty good European strokes out there, they seem too mechanical. The Filipino strokes are effective but can not be described as "sweet".

Guys I wish I could have seen -

Denny Searcy and Harold Worst

Dave Matlock to the top of my list.........

same here...and include pool player turned cue maker Joel Weinstock both played together for a time and have similar stroking techniques and stances (sorta snooker style for a pool player) just pure solid and beautiful strokes on both those guys....even on a bad day the stroke was still nothin but sweet

The only thing wrong with my buddy Joel is he's right handed lol, but still makes a mean left handed pool cue imop.

Whew, I was going down your list, BlackJack, and not seeing Buddy, and then there he was, where he's supposed to be, at number one. It's such a shame he never took up straight pool. I would give my both my nuts to see him in a game of straights.

Everyone here has great selections as to who they think has the sweetest stroke so here is my selection:

Dave Matlock
Mike Banks Jr.
Buddy Hall
Shane Van Boening
Jesse Bowman
Toby Sweet
Larry Quinn ( neighborhood guy that beat Keith When he came through town)

I would have to add Tony Chohan to my list, he has the sweetest stroke I have ever seen in person!

And a Question for some of the older guys, having never seen them play and knowing how good they were, how would George Rood and Don Willis' stroke have stacked up?
