Pro Shot Glove: JoeyA Heads-Up.

Big thanks on your product reviews and your opinions are always taken seriously in my camp. I would not know have the stuff that is available to help pool players that are not born with natural talent and great vision if it were not for evaluations that you give. I am not like most people that I try to help better themselves. When a suggestion is made to me I will always give it a try and if it works fine I use it and if not I don't use it anymore and this is without criticism. Keep up the great work.

I appreciate your feedback VERY MUCH.

There are two things that I hope to do with the reviews:

One of them is simply to make more information about some of these products available to the members of AZ Billiards. Many of us don't have the time or inclination to purchase every billiard product that comes out.

Secondly, I attempt to bring out the positive points of each and every product. I like to see people and businesses succeed.

No matter what I say, the market will determine whether or not the product is valuable and worth owning.

It has been quite satisfying to hear from people who have tried the products I have reviewed and they in turn, make similar or new positive comments about the products.

I'm sure that not every product that I review is going to be the right product for every person and some of the products may not be needed or may not work for every person.

I hope to continue to provide insight into products and services in the billiard industry and am really glad that some members of the AZB family appreciate my efforts.

Sincerely,
JoeyA

Nice review. Guess I will sign up. BTW PoolDawg was selling this glove for around 25.00 bucks. Maybe if enough people sign up they might lower the price.

I missed the information about PoolDawg having the glove for sale. Thanks for the heads-up. hmmm

You can get a little discount for doing an advance registration....

Lou,

It's always nice to hear generous and genuine compliments from someone such as yourself.

I seldom ever pay for any of the products that I test and review.

Periodically companies send me products to test and yes, the products are always sent free of charge. I don't make any promises except that if when using the product, if I find things that I like, I make sure to highlight the properties that I find useful or valuable.

Did you REGISTER for your ProShot Glove by CLICKING HERE?

BTW, thanks again for the compliment on the review.

hmmm, no, did not/am not registering.

I can appreciate your philosophy on commenting on pool products. Certainly your approach is one of the reasons folks send you stuff -- they never have to worry about you saying something like: this is the most worthless, poorly made, uncomfortable piece of crap I've ever seen/used.

Personally, I prefer more of a Consumers Report approach that let's the chips fall where they may. Sometimes that means a "Don't Buy" recommendation. I kinda feel that approach gives the review more credibility. But that's just me :-)

Keep up the good work.

Well you should keep your Consumer ReportS subscription up to date so that you don't have to bother keeping up with my reviews.

It's really great that you liked my last review but really Lou, you're starting to make me think your compliment was disingenuous. You're not that kind of guy are you, Lou? You wouldn't stoop that low, would you Lou?

Gee, Joey. And here I was thinking you were smart enough to read between the lines and know that I said all that tongue-in-cheek.

I guess I gave you too much credit :-(

Thanks for the review Joey. I was wondering about how well this product would work. I tend to have a wrist twist on power shots here and there, but am still unsure about getting it.

I'd like to hear from people who use it and then if they can go without it. My experience with gloves like that is that once you use it you tend to need it. It's like when I used a wrist locking glove for bowling, or powerlifting. Once I used it I never went back. I am much more interested in how well this glove trains your wrist to stay than I am in wearing it all the time.

I’ve got one and would not want to use it for anything other than practice. For me at least it would be too much of a distraction, bulky and hot for competition plus I shoot better without it. But that’s just me I don’t even like wearing conventional pool glove.

Another reason is that I find the glove actually causes additional wrist strain when you wear it for a long period of time. This is going to sound weird but the strain doesn’t come from actually stroking the ball. The strain comes from other things where you need to flex your wrist like grabbing a sip out of your beer or generally running around with the cue stick in your hand. I have found that those sorts of movements will have you slightly fighting the glove and then after a while the realization sets in that.. Hey my wrist muscles are starting to get a little tired.

With that said, as a training device I think its excellent. It really gives you a feel for where the cue cradles in your fingers when your wrist is dead straight and it gives plenty of feedback if you shank your wrist because it will bump you on the hand when you do it.

I don’t consider myself someone that has huge problems keeping a straight wrist but I did find out that I was slightly off which was easily corrected by making a minor change in my grip. I also discovered that I have a very slight alignment error in my stance and have been compensating by unconsciously steering the cue.

For me it was well worth the $25.00 just to find out those tendencies. It's like you cant fix what you don’t know about.

On the flip side of the coin I don’t think that everyone would benefit from this device. For example, yesterday I was doing my usual practice thing and there was an obviously high level player practicing on one of the other tables but he had the weirdest side arm stroke I have probably ever seen in my life. For a guy like that, the glove would probably destroy his game.

Since I fall into the SPF category and use a classic pendulum stroke. The glove works well for me.

Cheers,

Dave

I have received a couple of these as well and am currently testing.
I can only say that it has great potential as a training aid. As far as using it during any official competitions, I do not think it is allowed as the WPA-rules list any and all equipment that can be used and if it is not on the list, then it is a no-go...but like I said...has great potential as a training-aid.

I am not sure about the sizes for this thing as I only received 2 samples each of same size (do not know if there are more sizes existing), but even those could be made to work for someone like me (105kg or 220lbs) and my team-mate of half the size...even though it was touch and go for her since I almost could not make it tight enough for her.

I will be carrying these in my shop as so anyone in Europe is welcome to check it soonish at www.rackem.de.

cheers,
Kimmo

I got on the list when this was first posted and they sent me a email today stateing they are on ebay and the store link. I got on and it said in the description wont ship till September 1 2010, So I asked if they were available now or if I had to wait till September 1 to be shipped. I got a message that they are available now, so I got on to order one and when I went to check out it has 2 of them and my checkout, with no way to remove one of them so I sent the store a message explaining to them that it is two of them on my checkout and it wont let me pay for just the one. But I then read further on the checkout sheet and it says for the free shipping it will take 32 to 35 days for shipping. The item is supposed to be in New York and I am in Pa. So it should not take that long to ship if they have the item already. I dont want to have order it and the store not even have it after they told me they do. And the whole 32 to 35 delivery wait just be for waiting for the store to recieve the gloves yet .. I have not heard anything back from them after tried contacting them again. Hopefully they get back to me tomorrow or tuesday. <<ED

JoeyK review

I got one around 2 weeks ago and my feelings are mixed so I'll give both sides of my experience so far..

Pros..
  • it does keep my wrist fairly straight when I wear it to practice.
  • my awareness has gone up as to how I try to overuse my wrist when playing.
  • price is fair enough
  • it's well made
Cons..
  • It only comes in one size and to me this is going to be a huge problem, even with the velcro straps, I don't find it to fit me like I feel it should.
  • It's uncomfortable and I can not imagine wearing it during actual play.
  • I still have not found a reason for the long stretchy cords that go through your fingers, for me at least.
  • It's not for everybody, IMHO

Not sure if this is thorough enough but I had the most trouble with the fit and comfort. My hands are pretty thin and & I have long fingers and it just does not fit right.. I also tried varying degrees of tightness and none felt just right. YMMV

Peace, JoeyK

Good points, Joey!
I've been waiting for some other users like yourself to try them and respond. I too don't have much use for the long, thin, bungee cords which cross your hands.

However, I have worn the glove for LONG periods of play (all night) without any problems except that I am not used to wearing it. I actually played in a local tournament wearing it the whole night and did exceptionally well. Maybe my opponents were thinking about my Pro Shot Glove when they should have been thinking about their game. I've played some matches recently where I've played well without wearing it and done even better. As far as fit is concerned, it seemed to fit my hand perfect and the velcro straps seemed to be able to adjust from very tight to very loose without much effort. I understand that not all hands are shaped the same and the Pro Shot Glove could have some comfort problems for some individuals.

Another thing that I did with the glove is to position the glove closer to my hand and further away from my hand to see where I received the best benefit.

Anyway, thanks for trying the glove and giving a great review.

No problem Joey.. I hope my review was objective, I definitely don't regret the purchase, just wanted to be honest after using it for a couple of weeks.. Keith is on to something good, may still need some tweaks but overall, a great idea.

Thanks for your initial review as well. It actually prompted me to try it out. I figure for $25 bucks, you can't go wrong. It did help me pinpoint a flaw or two in my technique which is well worth the cost to me..

If anyone has any more questions that I may be able to answer, feel free to ask..

Peace, JoeyK

ProSHot Glove

Hi Folks,

This is my first time on the forum. I am the inventor of the ProShot Glove and I wanted to talk all of you who have tried it and have voiced your opinions. I also wanted to let some of you know that I understand some of the issues you have talked about.

1) Yes, there is currently only one size. I think it will fit most everyone, however very large hands and small hands alike might not find it comfortable.
2) It might feel too restricting to some people for various reasons. Please keep in mind that there are two metal braces. One is on the bottom and one is on top. These metal braces are bendable and because you might like to bend your hand in a little or out a little, you can change the bend to your liking.
3) Metal brace can also be removed and here you will have even more comfort. Mika prefers to use the glove without the braces.
4) The purpose of the finger straps is that they pull the top and bottom braces a little more together. Again, if these are not to your liking just wrap them around the outside.
5) The bends in the metal braces set your hand exactly into the same position that Mika has his hand/wrist set. He was my model. Hey why not, he is pretty good LOL.

FYI - I belong to the APA and other leagues and I shoot with it on all night long. I know for a fact that I shoot much better with it on. Particularly long shots, rail shots and jacking over a ball.

If you have any further questions, you can always reach me at keith@greatbilliards.com

Who knows, maybe one day we can have a ProShot Glove pool tournament.

Play well all,
Keith

thanks!

I put in an order for your glove but it can not be processed without the shipping cost. You do not have an option for Canadian shipping, so the order is incomplete. Would you look into this or delete this order if you are not shipping to Canada.

Thank you,

Jeffery Weaver

Jeff, you'd probably have more luck e-mailing Keith directly at keith@greatbilliards.com
YMMV

Jaw, it is for either hand, your assumption was correct.. Hope you enjoy the glove. Peace
