When are the US players picked for the Mosconi Cup? After the US Open? Right now it looks like Shane, Johnny A, Morris, and C. Williams/ Corey. Not sure if fans get to vote this year or not...I hope not. Johnnyt

I really hope Dennis would still be on the team...It was a great win last year and Dennis brought a lot of that firepower. How could you not have him in there?

Take away the Joss tour and he has done nothing. I really don't care for him either, so that's anther reason. Johnnyt

Johnny,

Even if Dennis doesn't win another tournament this year, my votes with him. He comes with his A game every match. If you use your logic, what has Charlie Williams done to deserve his place on the team? Johnny A, yes! Shane, yes! Rodney, yes! The last two spots are up for grabs. Based on last year's performance alone, Dennis should get one. If it comes to a vote again, my fingers on the vote button and it will stay there:rolleyes:!

For many years, I wasn't a Dennis fan either. Strange how times change. He's a different person. Ask anyone who's around him. Isn't it wonderful what a good woman can do:eek:!

If you won the World Series ,would you trade the MVP ?.

Dennis Hatch in my opinion was the reason Team USA won the Mosconi Cup last year. I can't see how you would not make sure that he was back on the team again , they are going to be playing in a very loud and raucous venue this year and of all the times that they could use someone like Dennis Hatch this would certainly be the year . I'm not saying that everybody did'nt contribute all i'm saying is that Dennis has a lot of heart ,detremination and fire power and is'nt going to take any sh*t from anybody (like the dumb *ss in the stands last year ). Don't forget that Team Europe is going to be real hungry this year and wanting some payback , we need Dennis and i also really hope he's on Team USA again this year of coarse thats just my opinion. I have to admit I haven't been around him in many years, and maybe he has changed. When he stops all his sharking acts when he's down I'll think about liking him. Johnnyt

That hasn't happened yet, at least not as of the US Open 10 Ball in May.

One NEW U.S. Player on the Mosconi Cup Team every year.

To be candid, I haven't watched a lot of Dennis Hatch's matches to say that he sharks when he is down in a match and I did hear a LOT OF BUZZ last year concerning Dennis's contribution to the Mosconi Cup Team and it was all good.

But I also think that it would be nice to ONE NEW, yet DESERVING player on the U.S. Mosconi Cup Team each and every year. You know, spread the wealth around a bit and bring in fresh blood. There are many other players who play jam up, who could make a valuable contribution to the U.S. Mosconi Cup Team.

If one NEW player is selected then my selection is Stevie Moore.....

The team is not started to be picked until after the US Open in October. I e-mailed Matchroom a little while ago about tickets and some other stuff and the format at that time was probably going to be:

1. BCA #1 Ranked Player - Currently Johnny Archer
2. BCA #2 Ranked Player - Currently Rodney Morris
3. Matchroom Pick - Thought was that it maybe a pass for the previous MVP but couldn't be confirmed just that it was a Matchroom Pick
4. Matchroom Pick
5. Fan Vote was the probable scenario

If my Math is correct JA cannot be knocked out of the top two and RM looks pretty safe in 2nd spot unless SVB wins and Rodney gets knocked out early on. However I cannot find out if they use the Total Points or Adjusted points, where you get to drop your worst finish from the ranking events, I believe it's Adjusted Points.

I that case I will stick my neck out that the first 4 players will be Archer, Morris, Hatch (previous MVP) and SVB (I can't see Matchroom leaving him out) the fifth player from any fan vote would probably consist of the next 8 highest ranked US players from the BCA Rankings. They are currently in order, Dechaine, Deuel, Williams, Mills, Davenport, Moore, Schmidt, Sossei. There are a lot of players below these that could possibly get into the vote with a really good showing at the Open.

I like your post. Thanks for the consolidation of information as well as your opinion.

It wouldn't be an unfitting honor if the winner of the U.S. Open 9 Ball Championship was the person to be selected as one of the U.S. Mosconi Cup Team Members (providing it was an American and that they weren't already guaranteed a spot on the team). Same goes for the U.S. OPen 10 Ball Championship.

I agree 100% that if an American player wins the Open and aren't already qualified, that they should get an auto invite, that's a great point.

Not a bad idea but the question is would that be one of the two Matchroom picks or would that replace the fan voting? The fan voting thing went pretty well last year, creating some buzz and getting people hyped for the event. The fans feel more like they are invested in the matches.

I'm sure Barry wouldn't mind. It would definitely add to the considerable prestige of his tournament not to mention mean $10K (possibly $20K) more to the winner.

I cannot imagine Matchroom giving up a pick, can you? I am guessing if it ever happened it may replace the Fan Vote, but as you mentioned it appears to have been a pretty good success last year. I will contact Matchroom and make that suggestion that perhaps they could look at the suggestion.

Go USA!! - whoever the team is

On one hand you want the very best for the 5th choice and people hitting the vote button 100 times for their favorite player don't get it. That's not the best way to get the best deseving player. The fan vote is a joke and should not happen again. Johnnyt

Johnny whilst I might agree with you on that, I would not want that pick to then fall back to Matchroom, maybe they could take the top 3 from the BCA Rankings.

Mind you I can see the toher side of the argument coming already, last year's choice was Dennis Hatch and he turned out to be MVP!

IMO all 5 picks should be based on the US tournament points only for picking US players for the cup. There are less than 10 US players that can travel the world to tournaments and they are all full sponsored. Again, IMO pool has become a rich mans/womans game. If you don't have full sponsor or a rich daddy you ain't going nowhere in pool today. Johnnyt
