Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Is anyone coming out to Big Dogs tonight for the tournament? I'm sure I will play, but I would rather play some 1pkt or straight pool....:happydance:

DSM is getting kind of boring now that Mikey isn't staking people. Is there anyway to stir up a hornets nest an wake everyone up again?:slap:

I'll be up there tonight. Some of us might drive over to Quincy and play in their 9-Ball tomorrow but I don't know if that's looking good. You guys never let me play straight pool with y'all.

I agree it's boring right now too. It just shows you how willing people are to bet their own in tough games.

How was everyone's league last night? We lost 2-3 to Mike Henderson, Mike Athens, Troy Sowers, and Victor. I had to blow the dust off my cue before I used it. I should probably play a lot more before regionals next weekend now that summer is over.

How league went will vary for most people...

Mikey - I'll bet my own in tough games -- bring what you got! $5 maximum.

You are more than welcome to play in our straight pool ring game Mike!! Just as long as Borden goes before me, because he has a tenancy to fire at balls and open racks up.

Sorry, I didn't get back here yesterday...

Jerome does not have snooker table. He's got two nice, refurbished, pre-1900 Brunswicks that he wants to sell.

Would that do?

If you know Jerry McGrath in Urbandale (he used to play at McCoys a lot), he has had a snooker table dismantled at his house for a long time. It might still exist. Also, Steve Cover (played out of Smokeys and lives close to there) has a garage full of tables...maybe a snooker?

What fun project are you attempting, if you don't mind telling us?

Jeff Livingston

Long story short - I sent an email with the snooker run by Rodney O'Sullivan lately where he asked about a "maximum pot" after the first ball - then proceded to run out. (still think he's a wanker). Anyway - the 'boss' emailed back about how snooker was popular in the 70's and he was 'city champion' in small town USA. :yeah:

I would love to play with him some for 'love of the game'. But I got to thinking about it and might be able to turn it into a charity fundraising exhibition grudge match for fun and frivolity.:idea2:

So I was wondering if I could find a snooker table -- 6x12 preferred, but 5x10 acceptable -- to rent, steal, borrow, and set up for a little change in the daily routine. Mostly for the educational value in showing people a little different game...

I would have to coerce him into the match, but I think it would be fun. The table is the pivitol item -- if that was solved, I think it could come off. Could you reach out to those folks, Jeff?? I probably would know them by casual recognition only.

Anyway - Thought it would be fun and it provides me with an excuse to do something other than work. Plus I don't get to play snooker enough for my tastes...

It's official - No more hanging out with Brad when it rains...:help:

Wonder if they got home in time to see the sun rise. :thud: I will say that Friday is easier to tough out than the same circumstances on TUESDAY. :grin-angelic:
"Hanging out with Brad when it rains" netted you gorgonzola cheese didn't it?
Brian might have got home before the sun came up as he left before the start of Tom and my last set because he had me stuck for $500 so I had to run it back so I didn't owe him a comma! Needless to say more shots and drinks ensued and I wore him down. Beat him 5-2 to come out even! It wasn't worth it though cuz I'd have rather paid him the $500 than wanting to :barf: this morning! Thank goodness it rained us out today because I believe its illegal to operate heavy machinery while intoxicated!:outtahere:

Poker tourney tonight at the strip mall. You guys should come down and play in the poker tourney, then we will go up to big dogs! I'm sure something will get stirred up tonight after a few hours of poker, drinking, and sh!t talking!:kma:

Athens is now 9-1 thanks to Spimp!!! The FNG capitalized on on a BIH and ran out for the win and the last round! WTG FNG!!!:woot:

Best of the night is both Brian AND Tom jump the 8 in for the wins vs. Victor!!! :shocked2:

Craigslist is your friend!!!

Brad stop gambling with your team mates!!!!!!! What the hell is an FNG? I need to know the answers to these things. The poker game sounds like it might be more fun than a ten ball tourney tonight though. $50 buy in right? I think I will win this time. I have a question for the poker nuts.

If I had J-10 clubs against pocket jacks and the flop comes 10 high with two clubs and I catch an open ended straight draw to go with my flush draw and top pair on the board...what were my percentages to win this pot when I shoved all in?

Is there one on Craigslist?:slap: I never go there.

More like some provalone. gorgonzola is stinky. A nice colby jack is always good too...:yeah:

Good thing the FNG came along, I couldn't hit water if I fell out of boat. Back to the drawing board.

0% - since it's you and you shoved. You missed all the draws didn't you? :poke:

Its not as good as you think if they have the same open end draw minus the clubs for the flush. J10 clubs vs JJ with a flop of 10 9 8 two clubs I am assuming you are referring to? You only win the pot outright with a club or the remaining 2 tens. You chop with the Q of diamonds and hearts, as well as the 7 of diamonds and hearts.

FNG is F*cking New Guy. It was nice to hit some balls. Happy Friday y'all.

I got bet into and the guy betting was soft as jello stuffed baby shit so when I raised him all in for his $50 he took about 15 mins to call me. He deserved a Vag Card for that Hollywood. Unless I had a set hes got the best of it 99% of the time and he shoulda called so fast it would make me muck!

Did you guys institute rebuys yet, I got some money to fire off!

Considering I'm not much of poker player $50 is a little steep to a fish like me to just throw away. I know how to play, but to you 'PROs" I would look pretty silly. Thanks for the invite though!!

The way I understand your scenario, the flop had to come exactly 10-9c-8c (with the 10 being something other than a club). This then also gives you the possibility of a monster straight flush.

But in any event, you are a slight favorite - around 42ish% vs. 38ish% for the pocket jacks. Obviously there is also a very good chance of chopping the pot.

45% on the flop
25% on the turn.
Or something close to this.

Ding Ding Ding...I figured even against a made hand I was drawing very thick. When I saw the Jacks I loved it, when I didn't connect on at minimum a chop out I was frustrated. This is why I hate poker, only thing that matters is the damn cards, logic and reason only get you busted.

Does Borden post here? i would like to play him some straight pool to learn the game better. Paul has beat me the two times I played him so I am looking to play John some even but I dont know if he would even play. Someone pass this on to him if you would please. Thanks

Borden won't play without obscene spots. You can play Kirk though, I am almost 100% positive he would play for at least $50 or a $100. He's tired of all the little $20 races in straight pool. I actually enjoy that game...sike just kidding its boring.
