One pocket question

I know that is the rule, but I don't believe that is how it is played.
Here is what it says for one instance

"If the cue ball contacts an already pocketed ball, the cue ball will be considered pocketed whether it rebounds from the pocket or not."

Everyone at one point or another has had a problem following a ball you just made in to force 2 to go on the spot. The way this is written, just load up your pocket with all the balls you have and shoot the first ball (have it hang up because of all the other balls in the pocket, and then have the cueball touch that ball which is considered pocketed and neither ball went into the actual pocket to stay.
U12 -- that would be the other player's pocket -- which would definitely be frowned upon

In Phoenix, Arizona if a room has drop pockets the first person there in the morning has to check out all the pockets to make sure there are no scorpions in them.

Johnny is thin but he ain't going to fit into a pocket.:grin:

Playing on a drop pocket table. Seven balls in your hole. Shooting your eighth ball. It goes in but doesn't drop all the way in. Ball is 95% in the hole but is still touching the top of table. If u removed two balls it would fall. Is the game over?

On a drop pocket table you should remove pocketed balls as a habit so that this will never happen

I have played with poolfire before and he has forgotten more about one pocket then I will ever know:embarrassed2:. I think this was just one of those things that gets all of us now and then.....come to think of it these sort of things get me all the time;).

wtf is that? Some kind of threat?

FYI, I posted my comment without knowing that it was you who was the "idiot." (Your post that it was you was posted while I was writing mine).

I'm not trying to pick fights. I do wish to point out, however, that it seems odd for someone to worry about making precise rule calls when they're (apparently casually) willing to shoot a ball at a pocket so full that it can't even accept another ball.

Always use upper case letters when saying WTF. To use lower case displays a lack of respect. Although we may disagree on The Forum we try not to show disrespect.

Manipulating the fullness of the pocket to abuse the rules is unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalties for that are covered under Rule 6.16 I think.

beatin a horse to death

But I wonder, what WOULD you call someone who shoots into an already overfull pocket? Sure, if you do it when it really doesn't matter (a fun game with a friend) then it's merely careless (a ball can easily go flying off the table). But if there's money on that matters to the player then....it does strike me as kind of idiotic.

well....i guess no matter how you look at it....its a win....so it doesnt really matter that the pocket is overfull...your prob one of those players that empty their hole after every ball arent you.....

Manipulating the fullness would be unsportsmanlike, yes. But this rule that states a ball is pocketed if it touches an already pocketed ball means that if I have seven balls in my pocket, and the top ball is resting toward the pocket opening, rather than the back of the pocket, there's no way I'm removing any balls before shooting. That top ball makes the pocket "rattle-proof"; on my tables I play on, a rattled shot that wouldn't drop if the pocket were empty would still likely contact that ball.

That only applies to the cue ball. I think Rule 8.3 is clear about this. Should the rule be worded some other way?

No, the rule is clear; the problem with my last post is that I hadn't read the rule itself, just the posts of people reacting to it. Since the "contacting an already pocketed ball" part only pertains to the CB, that makes my last post moot.

Too many balls in the pocket

Are you serious? Could you see balls sticking out of the pocket? Why would you shoot if you could see balls? What if the ball comes out of the pocket because you were too lazy to move balls and returns to the table and upsets other balls. Now what to do. Oh my gosh there is a trash can in my driveway, should I just run over it, or get out and move it. I guess I better call someone and ask them what I should do.
