I think the whole production has been great and i really appreciate all thats gone into it. Theres just one thing that had bugged me. Jennifer Barretta so obviously pulling for Mika. Shes constantly making excuses for him. It just bothers me because she should be objective while commentating. Im just tired of hearing her defend Mike and wondered if anyone else was feeling the same.

I didn't have the money for the stream, but I've already read one negative comment on her commentary. I also read someone else saying they wish Billy Incardona was commentating, whether this refers to Jennifer's commentating or not is up for interpretation I suppose.

I didnt want to turn this into a thread bashing her. But her commentary has been awful. And thats without her so obviously pulling for Mika.

For those paying attention, the current male commentator is.....

JimBoCT!!!!! And I guarantee JimBo is doing a great job at commentating.

I have not seen any of the match but I do know where you are coming from on the commentating favoritism. I have watched matches in the year's past where a commentator has went above and beyond to supposrt a player and even went as far as to root against his opponent. I think TAR does a great job and if not for them, a lot of people would not get to see these kind's of matchup's. It show's very little class and make's the commentator look like a fool imo.

Although I don't deny that this has happened, I also know that when the commentators are rooting for whoever is losing or is looks like they need picking up, complaints come a plenty with accusations of favoritism.

Being one that's been falsely acused of such lunacy and idiocy, I have to cry bullshit on a lot of that. Any decent commentator is going to encourage the one who is losing.

Sometimes, it shows more about the viewers favoritism, not the commentators.

i suck at commentating but am trying to improve,

First rule is dont pick a side. it pisses half the listeners off.

I had a very sizeable bet with Cardone once and you would never known it until the end of the match when he made a comment, it was over $5000-and he didnt put his biz in the street, thats a true pro. Thanks billy;)

Your right and for the most part, as long as it's a knowledgeable person commentating it goes pretty well. Everyone has a certain player they want to win for one reason or another and cheering them on is only natural. What is sad is when you are watching a match and one player get's a lucky roll and the guy in the booth say's "give me a break, how many lucky roll's can he get, that's sick or he's getting all the roll's". It always make's for an exciting match when a guy come's back from a big deficit or when the underdog seem's to be the favorite after a match has started. I think when most people complain it's because instead of watching a match and listening to good play by play they feel like they are listening to someone who has a second mortgage riding on the match and their player is losing. To each his own I guess.

Imo he is one of the best in the booth, he keep's it real.

I watched a portion of the first day of the match when Mika was already trailing by six or seven games. I thought Jennifer and Eric made an excellent team. They had a good rapport, both have nice clear voices and a good command of the English language, and their analysis was spot on throughout the time I watched. I really enjoyed listening to them. One of the better teams I've heard doing commentary. That's my opinion. If Jennifer was pulling for Mika, I must have missed that. I'd like to hear them back in the booth for day three.

I've listened to every minute of it and to me, while I know there are ties to her and Mika (same room and all) I think she has remained fairly unbiased. It's not like she's rooting for him or anything.. saying "what a lucky roll shane just got" I know who she would like to win, but it isn't tainting the broadcast in any way, IMO.

This has been a good mix of qualified knowledgeable commentators.Providing history and tendencies of what amounts to a local player just makes the stream way more interesting.I dont think that it was heavily biased at all and I'm a SVB fan.

Could be worse, you could have me back in the booth.

Sometimes I prefer to just hear the click of the balls along with the room noise and not be distracted by the commentary (including my own ) regardless of its quality. I'd love it if video and stream producers could provide an alternate audio track that simply had the table mic without any talking for those times. Then I wouldn't have to mute everything entirely just to focus my own thoughts on the match without the bias of others' ideas.

I once asked Pat Fleming to do this since DVDs provide the option for alternate audio tracks and it seemed easy to do with modern equipment, but he wasn't interested. Oh well.

Mika needed to get his head in the match in a big way

I agree . Jennifer was OK. I saw the whole thing - and I would add Mika was playing REAL BAD!
I've never seen him look so out of sorts.
I just felt like shaking him so hed wake up.
I was rooting for him not because I bet on him I just wanted to see a better match. There is really no point in watching people get runover especially since Shane wasn't playing that well either.
I think Jennifer felt the same way even though she freely admitted she practices with Mika. We just wanted the match to get better

and its a lot better for TAR , if players re at the top of of their game for these events.

I dont think its too much to ask for the commentator to be objective. Jason from TAR has obvious ties to Shane, but when he is in the booth you would never know it. He talks about the match and brings knowledgable information. Im just tired of hearing...Mika deserves better than this. And yes im pulling for Shane to win, but i want to see the best pool possible from both players. Its not about me being biased towards Shane, i just think its kind of obvious on her part.

I think you mean JUSTIN?? Just a guess??

Although Jennifer is not my favorite commentator, I think she is doing just fine.. There is another that I don't to listen to but that's no big deal. I've listened to both days and thin the commentators have been pretty good so far. I've not gotten the same impressions that you have.

Good pool, good price! I'm a satisfied viewer.

I have not watched the match. But if it had been announced before time that Jay Helfert would be in the booth I would have sighed up. A person with Jay's knowledge an experience of the pool world is remarkable. I have been through his book twice. He has the wisdom to know when to speak an to listen, Tar missed the boat on this one. :frown:

I call BS. No one is going to buy a high end match like this just based on who is commentating.

I have the match and don't have any problems with the commentators. I watched all of the first day, and the very end of the second day. I knew it was Barretta, but I didn't know who any of the male commentators were. I thought they all did a good job. I thought they were much better than the normal "streaming" commentators, but not to the level of Accustats commentators like Bentivegna or Cardone.

I also did not detect any bias from Barretta.
