Southwest "alternative cues"

Can everyone do me a favor and stop quoting cowboy? I can't install the super-ignore add-on here at work so the only alternative is if everyone stops quoting him. I deal with truckloads of stupidity every day, I don't need more (PLEASE!!!!).

I've said it elsewhere, this is a morally bankrupt business practice and amounts to outright theft. I saved the website just in case for some reason he comes to his senses and tries to remove it. I would love for him to be fined a nice big chunk of change for this. What a scumbag criminal.

Im sure Mike probably knows as Roy gets a lot of his cues direclty from him, or did the last time I was there. Roy is in Indy and Mike lives in Noblesville which is not real far away. Roy has been a SW buyer for years and I often wonder what kind of a deal he and the rest of the SW "dealer's" are getting on cues ever since she raised her prices. Even though they will always have a cult following, their sale's have surely dropped and in the years to come they might not actually have a ten year wait on a cue....who know's. Lot's of cuemaker's have used the Southwest style and just play it off as a Southwest "tribute". Normally you can scan through the wanted/for sale forum and find at least one cue that is a SW tribute. When you think about it, if you take the wide ring off the bottom of most all the Southwest cue's, you are left with a 6 pointer with veneer's and rings. They are a great cue but pretty simple when you break it down. If you think about it, you could call any cue out there with 6 points, veneer's and rings in all 4 locations a SW copy, style or tribute.

BTW there are no price breaks for dealers. When we are next in line, we pay what everyone else pays.

Bingo and the JP Photo with the Cactus in Post # 4 Looks Like a Southwest Pin Catus if you did not know better.

.. and do you see the flak he caught for it. Just like this instance.

Let me say this, Roy can do as he feels. We have always had pleasant exchanges, and I have never had an issue with Roy, ever. I question the cuemaker, making a "LINE" of knockoffs. Would any other established cuemakers go and make a "LINE" of knockoffs, intentionally? The other thing is it's an active maker. You want to do a line of Bushka, Paradise, whomever tributes, yeah ok, I get it. They are dead, and it's nice to carry the tradition.

"I recall several years ago the web-site CHALKERS DOT COM listed a Coker Cue and comparing the “Hit” to a Southwest Cue."

Bruce-
Quit talking while you're way, WAY behind.

Comparing the hit of a cue to a South West and making an exact replica that is marketed as an alternative to a South West are two completely different things. And using a Coker as an example is stupid. The taper, pin, ringwork, etc... all different. And Martyne?? Yeah. She's a crook too.

If you think they're even remotely close the the same, it speaks volumes about you... like the rest of your retarded posts.

If you think what Mike Stacy and Roy Mallot are doing is just fine and dandy, well that speaks volumes about you too.

So you buy a fake South West and it comes with a fake Ron Thomas???? Can I pay with fake money too???

Jay made a statement that is 110% TRUE.

But if you search Southwest Cue on E-bays there are Copies, or FAUX Southwests there also.

And how many of those South West clones on ebay are being sold be 'reputable' members of the pool community?? How many of them are selling for $1,800 each?!?!

As I said the more this THREAD goes the more FREE ADVERTISING PEOPLE ARE GIVING ROY. IMHO Roy Spelled it out in Black & White his new line is an "Alternative".

Maybe Roy felt he needed the "Alternative" when Southwest raised their prices, to real Market Value Recently. Drivng Prices on the Secondary Market to the point many are now not able to own a Southwest.

BTW if you want a REAL SOUTHWEST, Roy has a LARGE INVENTORY. BRAND NEW and Almost NEW CONDITION

I'd bet money that he won't be getting them from Laurie too much longer. Not after he pulls something like this.

I think most of Roy Cue come from these guys,

Flippers!

I'm very dissapointed in Indy Q Shops posting on their site of "alternative" cues....They are comparing them to Southwest cues throughout the advertisment even stating "Features Butt And Shaft Tapers That Are Too Close To Close To Even Mention." Also, They compare order times and even % off of Southwest packages. Why is a great custom maker such as Mike Stacey (stated maker of "alternative cues") producing Southwest cue copies.
Ms. Franklin has continued an amazing company after the loss of her husband and a slowed economy. Please let HER make SOUTHWEST cues and sell YOUR OWN designs.
Finally....Southwest cues must NOT be overpriced (as stated by Indy Q Shops) if COPIES of their cues are selling at 40-60% of retail price for AUTHENTIC CUES. Their statement reads with reference to Southwest Cues...... " Mine Are Terribly Over Priced In The Billiard Markets Of The World Today."
I am not against Indy Q Shops or Mr. Malott......I am a fan of Southwest Cues and hopefully a friend of Ms. Franklin...Please let Indy Q Shop know what you personally think of this advertisment. Send Email:
$ales@IndyQ.com

it's a crooked thing to do but let's be honest someone was bound to do it eventually. i know a guy who's got some specs from a lot of cue makers and plans on having shmelke make him a cue built to those specs.

honestly even with this going on all that's going to happen is someone's going to get a cue that plays similar to a SW for way less. I doubt laurie will lose even 1 customer. people that want a sw want a sw. most people seem more interested in the name anyway. you guys all know who you are

What I'm saying is, at the end of the day, no matter how hard the dealer spins it, all the slick-talk marketing in the world won't change the fact that if a buyer ever wants to resell his "alternative" cue, he's more than likely going to lose what it would have cost him to have sprung for the South West in the first place...

I wonder if Monopoly money will be accepted as an "alternative" form of payment for the "alternative" South West.

there's that cue flipper talk we're all so used to hearing. the people that're willing to buy these alternative cues are probably the people that aren't going to name drop, test hit, and then flip the cue. they're just going to use the cue to play with it

like the guy that springs for motrin when generic ibuprofen will get you the same end result.

That is disgusting and quite possibly the worst web site I have ever seen. It actually made my eyes hurt.

Doesn't matter. Every player changes cues at some point. And when the buyer of this cue decides to change... I'd bet money he's not gonna be getting all of his $1,800 back for a Mike Stacey South West knockoff.

You point is vary good, and the Cue market now is not very good. Cue that once were list and gone is 15 MINUTES sit 15 DAYS UNSOLD!

Wow

Wow $1800 for a knock off. How strong is it when Mike knocks off a southwest and he gets 1K more than he would usually get for the same cue. How is this possible??? What a joke. I can't believe he will sell many knocks off at the $1800 asking price.

Whether it's cheesy, misleading, or blatant fraud may be debatable, but the one thing I will say is that if I was lucky enough to have flipped 581 Southwest cues in 4 years as he claims on his website I would not try to undermine the brand the way he is with this marketing- that's just downright STUPID.
