Bobby Cotton

Valentines day 1970

Bobby and I left memphis and hit the road........made some money, got robbed, got hustled, made friends, went to the chicken fights in San Antonio, slept in a 56 chevy for 4 days, we washed our socks at the bus station in Fort worth, ate a few stakes , just to mention a few of our adventures and through the years, I have many memories that are "PRICELESS"

Dick Clark

I'm sure he is. But how many of him are there?

LOL It's an endearing term I picked up while growing up in Chicago. It's not grammatically correct and is definitely a slang term. The point is when you use it, the person you are referring to is elevated to a point of being a larger persona than just one individual/person or "people".

BTW he was known by different names if that helps. And back then he always went by Robert...hated Bobby.

Best,
Mike

God bless Bootsie- He'll be waiting in heaven for ya bobby.

Bootsie is a true name from days gone by. To me my Cats are like children. They each have different personalitys. Did the cat go on road trips? I had 2 die in the last 6 months- death sucks no matter what it is!! Bring on the bk. thanks in advance for any comments. mark

He is a great road player from the golden years of pool and has a great book about his adventures comming out very soon. I'm taking the liberty of making this public, I had a vote on the title here a while back.

The good news is his book is comming soon real soon. I havent read it(just a few out takes and they were great), I know for almost the past year he has worked on it dilligently and its going to be one heck of a book. Man does he have a great memory he is amazing that way. For example when we play pool together, 2 hours later we will be talking about a shot and set the balls up EXACTLY like they were, when I cant remember-but when he sets them it refreshes my mind. And he is right on the $$, man I wish I was that sharp. With a memory like that were gonna get a great glimpse into the past of one of greatest road men ever. Big $$$, guns, fights, girls, moves, and more. It isnt rated G. Its real.

Also sadly his kitty cat of 20 years passed away today, and he loved his kitty more than pool, more than anything I think. I know him well and I feel just terrible for him tonight.

Its been a tough day....

If you havent heard of him you will after this book, he posts here sometimes.

Sent my money to Robert for the book already! Can't wait to read it! Sorry about Bootsie Robert. Mikey

I heard a few stories that might be in vol.2, or when the statute of limitations runs out-just kidding, seriously its gonna be great i'm sure. You guys did some wild tuff together. Hope to see you again soon.

I havent read the book, I only saw a little bit like Freddy did. I'm looking foward to it, I talk to Cotton everyday so I know the amount of work he has put into getting the book right-time lines etc. So there wont be any errors. He is a perfectionest.

Did Robert show you the pictures......they didn't do me justice, I'm much better looking:grin-square: in real life!!!!OMG Ask him about the bar in New Mexico where the cowboys were doing the boiler makers and making jokes about his long curley blonde hair??? That was 1 scary Sunday afternoon. It's real life stories like this that make this book a must have!!

Hope to be out you way soon, save me a room:thumbup:

look foward to seeing you, you awalys have season tickets to my house. I only saw a couple old pics, and honestly It's been a while and I dont remember them well. I know you were in one pic I saw, most were pics of Richard A. Most of the pics in his book I believe are comming from Bill porter and Mike Haines collection of pictures.

I havent spoke to Cotton in the past couple days which is unusal, I will call him today. They are making a slight change to the cover of the book. Listen to this, this how much of a perfectionest Bobby is, he sends out to his friends the cover of the book for feed back, it looked GREAT to me, absolutly perfect it fits the title sets the mood up and tone of the book for the "Life" that's lived in the pages of the book. I thought it was perfect, Mike Massey calls me and we were talking for an hour about 10 diferent things when he asked me about the cover, I replied to Mike what I just said above. Mike said "Its not quit right", Huh???" I said. Mike continued on "Well the road is too straight and flat, the contour of the pavement dosent match the landscape, it needs to flow with the land, I'm a artist and notice these details". WOW!! I looked Mike is right, I dont know if they have been printed but he said he was going to fix it or Cotton was gona get it fixed. I'm not sure how thats going down, but man I was amazed that caught Mikes attention, its clear to me now. The whole point is this book is being done right not rushed to the press for a fast buck. Cotton is very proud of this-rightfully so and dosent want skimp on his lifes story, it took 40 years for the events to happen, why go on the cheap or rush it at end? He is a perfectionest and has surrounded himself with the very best to write/produce this book. Man I cant wait to read it. I'm real proud of him too he has worked so hard on this, I hope Mars(poolhall junkies) will want to make a movie based on this book. That would be the best!!

Thanks for the season tickets. I looked at the cover picture again just now and Mike is right..........it will look better to match the landscape. Attention to detail is a quality Robert has never been without.

Hey Robert,

I ordered mine. Sounds like it's gonna be good.

Mike(Remember Gerry Kanov and Harolds in Chicago?)

"Confessions"

Ok, Ok, I have trapped a few in my time, name a pool player who hasn't, haha !In 1974 when I was in Alaska I had Johnny Duclose giving me the 3 and the break for 3 hundred a game, he weighed about 3 thousand. I was with Billy Teeters, we took down all the cash the poolroom had ! And I would only play that game on a 4x8, yuck, yuck !

Harolds poolroom

Yeah I had alot of good memories of Harolds, I had Rocketman begging me to play one pocket while he was standing in the snow at my car window. I took him inside, busted him and made him happy ! He was a good dude too ! I remember Kanov well, he's a good guy also, we been friends a long time.

Hey, Robert, glad to see that the book is about to be available. I saw Vernon Litton a few weeks back and he's in pretty bad shape. He broke both hips a while back and has had a stroke. He's bed ridden and 82 years old, so it doesn't look good for him. I'm hoping you used that pic of him and his dogs in your book and that he lasts long enough to see it.

I was really sorry to hear about Bootsie. I've been a pet owner most of my life, so I know what it's like to lose a pet.

Say hi to Syd for me.

Dallas Vernon !

Hey Bill, yeah the two photos of Vernon are in the book, the two scary ones i must say ! And thank you and Mike Hanes for getting them for me ! Sorry to hear about Vernon, I still wouldn't want to tangle with him ! lol

I'm going to get one of your books for him -- he'll be tickled pink to see his pic in the book. When I was visiting him, he asked me to dig through some stuff beside his bed to find a particular photo. As I started sorting through the stuff in the pile by his bed, I came across a loaded revolver. He may be bed ridden, but I guess he is still dangerous. He told he some stories about Stanley "Creeper" Cook, George McGann, and Titanic that you would have gotten a kick out of hearing.

I wish there was a category just for these old time road players and all things relating to the good old days. Mr. Jay Heifert certainly has the time to keep us posted on the release time of this book. 16000 Posts, hell, you know he has to be retired. I have not yet had 100 posts but I think I can catch up with Jay around about the year 2199.

If people didn't know Vernon was a real person, they might think he was a fictional chcracter. I'll never forget the first time I met him at the Cotton Bowl Palace in Dallas (1970) when Robert and I first went there....WOW what an impression he made on us. Don't know if he will remember me but the next time you see Vernon, tell him Dick Clark said hello!

For anyone that doesn't know Robert LeBlanc, here is him in action.

What year was this?

1924 to 1925 i'd guess by the looks of him now:eek: just kidding Cotton looks better now than he did when he was younger.

on the square i'd say 5-6 years ago, he looks the same now, perhaps a little ligheter like 5-7 pounds, but the camera might add that weight. He takes VERY good care of himself.
