Curious if anyone is there. Any updates? What top tier players are there? Curious what I'm missing...

Thanks,

Surprised you got no responses. Mika Immonen is there and playing strong, he's easily my pick. Lots of strong players including Mike Dechaine, George San Souci and Zion Zvi who played a nice match, Jeremy Sossei, Jennifer Baretta, and house pro Joe Tucker.

The new room is interesting, much more of a sports-bar feel than the smaller old location, but great for accomodating the sizeable tournament crowd.

I am also surprised more didn't reply. I figured Mika and Mike D would be there. Glad to hear Joe T has pried himself away from the golf course ha ha! (Although not a ton of golf in November in New England lol). Wish i could have gone. With the exception of Mika (and Dechaine...it's his home room), they seem to not be getting the top tier pros that they used to get. Although I might be basing that on a year I went to watch and it just so happened that the US open was the week before or after, and LOTS of monsters showed up, including Reyes and Bustamante.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the update!

I think the one you went to was the exception. They seem to usually have the mixed long-time Joss field, some pro-level travelers, and 2-4 "big names" in attendance. The great thing about the tour is that it seems to attract big-gun players who seem to hone their skills, get some wins, then go on to dominate, like Ronnie Alcano and Dennis Hatch. This year there is Zion Zvi, who has made some waves lately but isn't a household name. He is looking strong and may be the next big thing....

Yeah I think you are right about the Ocean State. I have heard of Zion, but have not seen him play. I know someone from my area beat him at Turning Stone or something...maybe Luis Rios or Cleiton Rocha. In any case, they were SO happy and saw it as a huge accomplishment. He is very strong from what I hear.

Hey if you're down at Snookers today, hit me up with an update later!

Thanks again,

Dechaine is from Maine -- that's a long ways from home for a "home room" :D

Dechaine the Pain From Maine plays out of Snooker's.

When I left Mika was playing Jarred Clowery on the winner's side and Dechaine was playing Dave Grau on the loser's side. Mika just seems head and shoulders above everybody! It will take a big game to beat him.

Thanks for the update -- good for Jarred -- keep it going!

When I left it was Mika & Dechaine in the finals...it was just starting around 8:15pm.

He moved to Providence RI, presumably because they have an awesome weekly tourney. I'm pretty sure he calls Snookers his home room now.

Shot an 80 today ;)

good Lord!! that's amazing. I know you went on a little golf expedition a little while back, and I kinda got the impression you were just taking the game up. Clearly I misunderstood...you must have played a ton before. Please tell me you didn't start playing within a year...shooting an 80 is no small feat...nice !! And yeah, winter around here isn't quite what it once was lol.

Mika won but Mike proved himself to be World Class.
Won the first set of the true double elimination final and then, at 7-7, made a beautiful combo on the 9 that would have put him on the hill but the cue ball found the corner pocket.

A great final played by both players and a true show of heart in Mike as he nearly double-dipped, argueably, one of the best players on the planet right now.

It's been about a year and a half and just like like I tell all my students, this info alone is worth a little something but with practice practice practice is worth 10x more. I hit a lot of balls!

Would have traded a 68 to be back at the Ocean State on Sunday though, Congrats to Mika, Mike, Jarrod and everyone else involved in what was another great Championship here in RI especially Steve & Regina Goulding owners of the New & Improved Snookers!

Holy Lemons, last time I heard Jarred Clowery's name, he was selling sausage at the sports stadium. Good to see him hitting 'em again. :)

Here's the article if you want to read it. Clowery called the heat on some kids who didn't have a permit, when he had to have a permit. It's kind of funny, in a way. I'm sure it wasn't funny to Jarrod, though, at the time. :embarrassed2:

I remember watching CNN and, all of a sudden, there's Jarrod Clowery's face. It was funny. :grin-square:

It's all coming back to me. Jarrod was selling sausage. Next time you see him at a tournament, you should say to him, "Rack 'em, Sausage."
