Searing or Szamboti

OK i want to pick some brains here. If you could have just ONE CUE, either a Searing or a Barry Szamboti which would it be. For the sake of arguement we will value each cue at $7500.00 in todays mar
ket and you are going to shoot with the cue it is not going in the safe.

I'd get a Barry and play with it, its possible to play with a cue for years and not get a nick in it, and with either of these cues there isnt much of a premium on a used cue anyways, because a $7500 cue is a player cue from either of them.

if it was a $25,000 box cue then weather its used or not matters more.

Take my input with a grain of salt since I've never shot with either. From what I've heard from people I share preferences with, I would definitely prefer a Searing.

Like choosing which son you love more

Both of these cue makers are outstanding craftsman whose name speaks volumes because of consistence in what is produced. If given the option to buy a cue from one or the other I would say flip a coin if the two cues looked the same with the same specs. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH EITHER.

SS <--- hopes to have a cue from Dennis to never have to answer this question

Heres my two cents worth to add something to my post. I had a Gus that he made for me that was fancier than most less than some I shot the cue for 19 years and it was as straight at 19 as it was at day one. I also had a cue Barry made for me and i think Barrys work is more percise than his fathers but I didnt have it 19 yrs. I let them both go attempting to remain married. I now have a one of a kind Searing that Dennis made me, if this cue has an imperfection in it only Dennis knows. They all played very well and although I feel the Searing maybe a bit better player I am working from memmory and its in all honesty a coin flip, I dont wish to start a war they all PLAY. I asked the question as I did notice a Barry cue that appeals but I doubt I will let the Searing go as it is personal to me. I am not to concerned about appricative value as I feel either cue will always bring a resonable return. I am attempting to get a feeling of the pool public.

A Dufferin Phanton and $7,380 worth of beer and I'll have a much better time than you.

It is up to the preference of the guy buying. There is no right choice for all here.

I'd hit with both and choose the one that played best for me...or I would go with the design I liked most...

I tend toward the Szamboti traditional style, but Dennis has blown me away with the tighest detail work I have seen. You can't lose with these guys.

True but than youd have a beer gut and in ten yrs I believe with either cue I would double my $$

I would have to play with both to make a decision so for now I'll just stick with the Gilbert.
I've talked to Dennis 10yrs ago about making me a cue, wish I had done it and I remember Dennis being very nice and answered all my questions. I've heard nothing but good things about Barry, so why not rotate because they both build them to play.

You might be right about my beer gut, but you could just as easily be wrong about the return on investment from a pool cue. If you want to double $7,500 in 10 years there are likely much better ways. If you want a fancy high-end cue then you've picked a couple of good ones to go after .... likely on the secondary market .... so just buy what strikes your fancy.

Dennis and Barry are both winners....I am proud to own both and and my daily player is a Searing.

I love the way my Szambot's play and I love the way my Searing's play.....I have found that one special cue that I play with and when a cue has that special feel...well that's all that matters.

Cue maker wise....they are both winners.
Investment wise... they are both winners.
People wise...they are both winners.

Bottom line if you own one or both cues from these guys.....you are a winner!!

Tho I walk through the valley of darkness...I shall have no fear...

Perfectly stated. I too am fortunate enough to own these 4 master cue makers cues. When you get to this point of perfection it just comes down to personal preference.
The only cue i would stay away from is a big daddy.J.K.

Scary when you think that the Big Daddy is the rarest of the 5!!!!

Guess I'm the "less PC" kind of person, but I've hit with several of each, and I will say that the worst Searing hit better than the best Barry.

Dennis makes the best playing cue on Earth.
