My 10 year long awaited project is coming to an end.

Just wanted to say a few words about Diamond's new 9ft ProAm 3C table...the waiting is finally coming to an end...this table will be in production next month...for all those interested in a straight rail billiards table:D

I'll have some pictures to post after the first of the year. This table is modeled after Diamond's ProAm...so it has the one piece 1" slate, along with the Diamond leveling system as well...and yes, it has the Artemis K55 profile billiard cushions...so you can either play straight rail...or 3C as well, only difference is that the table will come with Simonis 860 tour blue cloth instead of a billiards cloth like the Rapid 300.

If you have any questions about this table and would like to know more about it, you can contact me at 702-927-5689 or Brian at Diamond, 812-288-7665

Why would they do that Glen:confused:

Thanks

No, there's a little more to it than that Craig, the balls are different sizes for the different tables...which means different cushions and different nose heights of the cushions...as well as different cloth. 63.5mm balls and 61.5mm balls don't play the same with the same nose height. There's a 1/16"th of an inch difference in the nose height between these two different sizes of balls. On a 9ft straight rail table, the players are not sending the balls around the table banking it 3-4-5-6 or more rails, they want slower cloth like the Simonis 860HR because they want to keep the balls together to score points. On a 10' billiards table...then it's all about the speed of the table and the distance the balls will travel on bank shots.

Forgive my ignorance... does an 8' and 9' straight rail table use the same size balls and rail height as a 10' 3C table, or a pool table?

Edit. I see my question was answered above.

I understand the concept of the game Straight Rail Billiards very well, along with 3-Cushion, Balk-Line, and I play these games as well.

Thanks for your explaination

My first room had a large Asian clientel. They had 15 pool tables, and 3 billiard tables. I think 2 8 footers, and 1 9 footer. I remember the rails on those tables were deader than the pool tables, but they had customers on them all day.

Later, when I progressed to a better pool hall, I started getting into 3C a bit. They had a GC 10' 3C table. 10 times better than the tables at the Asian room.

Finally, this room got rid of the GC 3C table, and imported 2 brand new heated Chivollete 3C tables. That was way better than the GC.

At the time, I thought the tables in the Asian room were 3C tables, just smaller. I did not know there was a specific table for straight rail and also one for 3C. Regardless, those tables at the Asian room were absolute pure garbage.

I also saw another room owner just in the last year or two convert one of his 9' GC's into a 3C table. Maybe it was a 10', I'm not sure. But he used 760 cloth, this I'm positive of. I played a game of 3C on it, and it was absolutely horrible. The cloth was brand new, and slow as dogs compared to what I had grown used to for the prior 10 yrs on the heated Chivolette tables. You just couldn't make multiple rail shots. No way.

Most people don't understand there's a big difference between a 2 1/4" ball and a 2 7/16" ball.

I hear ya...that's why it's such a natural for Diamond to get into the manufacturing end of this business as well as pocket pool tables....because they already build the best framed table and leveling system on the market today....so, it only makes sense to jump into this industry too...as their ProAm's can make a huge difference here as well:D

Well, I have to get some sleep, taking off from the Diamond factory in the morning heading to New Hampshire to get ready to go into the studio next Saturday...finally recording the DVDs for Simonis so they can create a world standard when it comes to installing their cloth on pool tables. The 2 DVDs should be in distribution mid to late January...and cover how to correctly install the bed cloth on a GC4 and how to correctly recover the rails....this should be interesting to say the least:D...but it'll help Simonis out quite a bit, as well as anyone wanting to know how to correctly install Simonis cloth on their pool tables:D these DVDs will be Simonis's first set of real instructions in their 330 year of being in business;)
