everyone on here was once a novice, then as you grow and change your thinking , and your skills change. you learn more, you play better, and more often, you found yourself playing GREAT.....

Im curious as to what all the very excellent players on here did to become that way. What was your biggest hurdle, what was your shift in your thinking, what did you begin to do differently. How did you practice and what, how much time did you spend, who did you play, who did you stop playing....what did you do differently when you weren't at the table, or even in the chair, what did you do mentally, what goals did you have, what thoughts replaced the old, And what was the one thing that you can say helped you the most to become the player you are today!

Hand down your pearls please....

when seated I put my cue down.......and i don't much worry or give a crap about what the opponent is doing while I'm relaxing, b/c thats what I'm doing is putting that cue down and RELAXING.....I'm chillin with no pressure

I found great results when i refocused my attention to proper alignment and stance (fundamentals) and did much practice and drill that were made for developing perfection in these areas.

The same can be said for a complete stroke and drills that promote it

REAL PRACTICE (hitting balls is a waste of time)

Knowing my weaknesses and being honest to myself as to what those areas really were and are so as to pinpoint and exorcise them from my game.

Knowing great fundamentals, learning them, and having faith in their true application that they don't fail only I can.

That missing and losing is as much a part of the game and its learning experience as winning and potting balls.

Learning to focus through mundane repetition and a mind highly focused on correctly completing the task at hand....with no excuses. I act as If someone might club me over the head if I don't pay attention......it keeps me sharp and attentive.

last but not least TEACHING OTHERS as it makes you constantly review all the basic stuff that honestly is the most important stuff.

For me the biggest hurdle is mental. When your in stroke and in that zone you never have a negative thought like missing a shot. Johnnyt (not a champion)

Motivation

Everyones needs to have the basics such as sound stroke and per-shot routine and good practice routines and the such. But what is supposed to motivate a person to put forth the work and sacrifices that are inherent to be excellent at anything. For me it was gambling. Not the mindless $10 races but matchup and wager a sum of money that will actually cause pain if you lose. To some this maybe $10 race but others should wager accordingly. Also, don't just play easy opponents. Take the tough matches, and play the easy ones, too. You'll need the jack when the good/tough players win. My 50 cents.

I gotta agree with Grey Ghost, focus on true practice,..."BUT"... Drew definitely has a great point with that 1000 post rule:thumbup::thumbup:
