2010 Cue of the Year

All of the cues posted are great in their own right. So far my two favorites are the Boar and one of the sugar trees. It amazes me that how Tony can incorporate a lot of inlays and still acheive an ultra classy elegant look.

<-- received pretty "plain" cues this year. Nothing fancy/ornate/of significance compared to many here.

3 PJ's, one 4 pt.

Those are fantastic cues, beatiful. I love cues like these, I got a $ cue this year that would look great in this line-up

Personally, I'm NOT a fan of this idea.

I like the Manzino, and it may be a monster on every level. Does that mean its the best looking cue of the year? No. Taste is subjective. There are people that will see that cue and vote for it immediately and those who will pass right over it because it doesn't appeal to them.

Each cue should be able to stand on its own based on its overall appeal. Otherwise, you have dozens of categories: 4 pointers, 8 pointers, box cues, plain janes, sneaky petes, etc.. Just let each cue be judged on its own appeal to the general audience. JMO.

I wasn't thinking that many categories:

Plain Janes (no inlays)
Merry Widows (inlays)

Full Splice (no inlays)
Full Splice (inlays)

Pointed (no inlays)
Pointed (inlays)

Artistic

I think the first two categories are self explanatory. Full Splice categories would encompass both veneered and non-veneered cues. Pointed categories would encompass any number of points, both veneered and non-veneered. Artistic would encompass those cues which are is a class by themselves. You could narrow the categories further by combining the Pointed and Full Splice categories.

There are some very nice cues out there, many that would be overshadowed or overlooked beside cues that are in a different class...these cues should be judged on their merit with those in their own class. Doesn't make them less of a cue, just a different type of cue.

Let's face it...the artistic cues always garner the accolades in both online and cue show settings...it was why they were built to begin with. As you yourself stated, they are however, not everyone's cup o' tea.

From what I see cuemaking is reaching new heights year after year. From Black Boar to Manzino to Haley to Herceck and Mobley. Outrageous designs. Cutting edge technology. I have not seen another Searing posted this year that matches this one:

There has to be more cues to post. I know there are some killer Zinzola's (other than Ross's) out there.

Have a safe and Happy New Year AZ!

Chris <~~~~~~wants BOTH Sugartrees shipped to me ASAP :p

So right there, we went from one cateogry to 7 categories. The problem is, when you start intriducing new categories, where do you stop? All you do is open the door to debate about "This cue shouldn't be in this category", etc., etc..

For example... your 'full splice' category... do some of the fancy non-pointed Herceks fall into the full splice cateogry or the artistic category???

One category. One cue. Don't complicate things any more than they already are.

My Kenny Murrell would have to be the biggest cue i picked up this year, i put a few cue balls i picked up in the photos...

We will stick to one category and one cue as the final cue chosen. I think some will be surprised at the results. I should have named this the "AZB Cue of the Year" thread. Although the Manzino won the ICCS award, that does not mean it will win here, but it might. There are more people here that prefer a cue made with fine wood combinations over a cue with tons of intricate inlays. That is why I thought this thread would be fun.

However, the main point is to show cues that were delivered to AZ'ers straight from the cuemaker in 2010... no matter how fancy or plain they are.

There are still many cues that have not been posted... a few that come to mind are ScottR's Tucker, Kam's Brazilian RW Burl Schick, and thePavlos "Flaming Goose" Mobley cue.

So keep posting up cues and we will see what happens!

Forgot about that one Xpat... that is a great cue and a great addition to the thread.

Kam's Barenbrugge. The ringwork alone is sick.
