Just picked these beauties up a couple weeks ago. We have a New Years Eve gig tonight and we set-up the equipment last night. I took this pic with my phone so it is not the best quality.

Can't wait to break these in tonight... they sound sweet!

Sweetness Jamie! That looks like a killer kit. What cymbals are you sporting?

Hope you and your family are having a great holiday!

Hey Michael!

Happy New Year to you and yours!

The kit is a Sonor Delite, and my cymbals are Paiste Signature Series.

Cool drums, you should get cue makers to make you some custom drumsticks out of exotic woods.

i've had a couple local band drummers ask me about doing that
all i asked them to do was bring me thier favorite stick to get measurements
hadnt happened, YET

one guy has carpel tunnel so bad,
he's got tape around his sticks,
to approx. 1 inch diameter
i told him i'd be glad to try it, at that size for him, just where he grips
once again, he hasnt bothered to come to the shop

i wanna do it just to do it
hell, it wasnt like i was gonna charge them an arm & a leg for it,
using purpleheart

that would bring a new meaning to "hits a ton"
and "how does it play";)

Brent,

It really depends on the lateral strength of the wood. Drummers strike the sides of the sticks on the metal rim, and edge of the cymbals, relatively frequently.

In high school, sometime around the origin of electricity, I was in a marching drum corp. They handed out brand new ebony sticks to all of us right before we marched. Our cadences were very heavily "flam"ed. This is where you strike the side of the stick on the rim, and the tip on the head simultaneously. I didn't make it through the entire march before breaking a stick. Several others did the same. I've never really given this a second thought until now.

sorry i made you go back to primitive times, LOL
you think purpleheart would hold up?
what about hornbeam?
those are the two i intended to use,
back when i THOUGHT those two guys i mentioned were actually serious

Straight grained Maple and Ash are what most drumsticks are made from. Just like in a baseball bat, drumsticks fracture along the grain. If purpleheart and hornbeam have the same characteristics, then I would think they would work.

But.......I'm not sure if your trademark butterfly splice would work for drumsticks. Jamie seems to prefer full spliced, veneered points anyway! :p

i'd offer to make jamie a trial experimental set,
but he'd just "flip" 'em anyway

About 5 years ago I made some stix for my bro-in-law,

Even found some old photos of them.

Casuarina with Leather.

Cheers - Dave.

Very nice Jammie!!!!....I play Sonor as well.....just the best there is imho.....mine is an 1989 Sonorlite, Scandinavian Birch, 10,12,13,14,15,22 kick, and a 1975 Anniversary Sonor snare

Ludwig and Zildjians

My favorites. Custom drum sticks was to be my sideline. Now the cat is out of the bag. Thought about replacement screw on ends for breakage and /or size. Thought a mini retro pool stick drumsticks would be unique. Back to the drawing board.

That was funny Brent! Man oh man, you guys and your toys! Am I the only one on here with a wife and kids; or am I just the one that doesn't negotiate as well as the wife and kids? It is three 3 against one around here, all girls!

Lol,

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY FRIENDS IN POOL AROUND THE WORLD!!!
