Off topic (apologies), but...welcome to AZB, Fran Crimi!

Hope to see ya around and shoot some, next time.

I agree - welcome to AZ. I recall Fran used to post with us in the old days at Billiards Digest. You've come a long way, baby!

A BD convert has made it over. Great posts to get things started.

How much longer until USPPA Reno pays out?

Any estimates?

The crowds can be excited at times. But you know the story. Just like you know the board.

Just curious....
It seems as though you're not from around here. You mentioned something in an earlier post about possibilities of having a tournament in Kentucy and also talked about things happening in NYC - Do you live back East somewhere?

Have you ever been involved with the USPPA as a member?

Tony is advertising for next year on his website.
The Pacific Rim Billiard Expo, for 2011.

Reno Open, $25,000 added
Simonis Tour Championship(whatever that is), $25,000 added
USPPA , $15.000 added
and last but not least
The 2 Cushion Club Challenge, $40,000 added

Send in your entry early so he can pay out this years winners.

I inquired on whether the 2011 event is still on the Peppermill's schedule and this is their reply:

Hi Bob –

Thank you for your interest. Peppermill was not involved in the billiards tournament prize monies, so I can’t comment on the payout status you mention below, but at this time the 2011 Pacific Rim Billiards Expo is still on our books. Plans are currently on hold until USPPA finalizes the 2010 event. Please feel free to check back for updates.

Since they haven't been paid at least we know the USPPA has the player entry fee.

Since the pros couldn't make it maybe the promoter decided to go where the "pseudo-real money" is, in the amateur events.

It's illegal interference with parties who are trying to conduct business.

I find this statement hilariously stupid and biased. Who would you be referring to as 'conducting business'?

I think you're a loyal friend of Tony's, but you really don't see that he's not acting like a proper business person here?

He took monies from people who spent their vacation time, travel expense, money lost from time off work with a promise of added money tournament payout. And when it was time for him to deliver - he disappeared. Don't you think at least he owes these people some sort of explanation or a plan? He should at least man up and admit he ****ed up. How long do you think he will hide out? Does he think if he ignore it long enough it will magically disappear?

I like to have loyal friends, but I expect them to tell me when my shit stinks and that I do look fat in a white bikini.

If you want to support your friend that's fine and you should, but you need to get off that lala train acting like Tony did nothing wrong or trying to divert the issue.

Wild! It is very unusual that a hotel would say something like this publicly unless there were some very serious issues.

Oftentimes contracts are done in multiple years at once. This increases the buying power of the group, so hotels will often throw in extras to induce a multi-year contract. My guess is this was a multi year contract, with both issued and signed at the same time.

The language "finalize the 2010 event" makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the prize funds or perhaps some other outstanding issues or both.

A hotel may cancel a contract for certain reasons. Usually that language includes the words "bankruptcy or solvency" or "becomes insolvent" when referring to a group. The reason why solvency is used is because the hotel may wish to cancel a contract if an acknowledged debt remains unpaid - technically making the group insolvent (unable to pay debts), where "bankruptcy" refers to an actual legal proceeding.

Obviously they are concerned.

Off Topic cont'd.....Thanks Chris and Eric for the welcome. Eric, I'd love to play. Let's get together.

Chris, I remember your Palmer collection well. Used to own one myself ---The Balibushka model. Bought it from Andy Diamond. Years later, it was stolen and then I found a guy using it one day at Chelsea Billiards. He was disappointed to find out it wasn't a real Bushka. I knew it was mine because I dropped it the first day I got it and knicked the varnish off the butt cap in a few very specific places. He ran out the door and that was that. Rats. I don't understand why he was so upset. I offered to sell him the extra shafts I still had. Oh well....

The shaft

It probably wasn't the offer to sell him the shaft. It was where you were going to deliver it to that made him run! :D

trust me I know i set up all 16 tables with some other people and we saw no money all of a sudden it was volunteer work. So I lost more then 1st and 2nd combined I already wrote it off plus we worked out a deal. But in the long run I made new friends and had one of the best times in a tournament on the west coast in several years. Not to make fun @ other promoters but the Peppermill as a lot more to offer then the Sands ever will.

I still set up tables for him time to time and help out on some other things but the USPPA his he's sole project.

Tony doesn't want me to stand up for him. I used to not like the guy for years from what others had told me but in the last year we finaly sat down and talked he has a wealth of knowledge and we get along great know except for this large speedbumb so to say. I think this year you will see a new Tony and things should be 200% better @ the next tournament.

Tony has called players he still owes money to to see a check in the next 2 weeks to 1-2 months this is as a phone call sunday night to a player that had not been paid in the top 5 spots. In the begining I know most of the problem but now I have no clue till we set down next week and talk about it.

I was planning on coming down to Mountain View.

Craig I can fully understand you not getting paid for setting up the 16 tables. The tables played like crap. Most of them had at least a two ball drift and there was one table that you could pinch up at least an inch of cloth. If I were Tony I would have charged you and Gilbert A. I guess this is what you get from volunteer work.

Unpay 7th winner of U S P P A Reno

Check mail today. No Check from USPPA. 1 MONTH AFTER:boring2: Back to top page.

Bump...this should not be on any page other than the first page until the players are paid.

bump it again

.....How many places or players were supposed to be paid, and how many have been paid? I wish there were a way to know.........I can't understand the silence...........

I dont think anyone was truly paid by the USPPA. Some guys that know Tony made some kinda barter deal w him-lifetime free soda refills at his pool room i think.

Yeap.....I remember USPPA tournaments night used to be in those Bay Area pool halls. Monday night @ Family Billiards in San Francisco. Tuesday night @ The Broken Rack in Emeryville East Bay. I am not sure about Wednesday night. Thursday night @ Family Billiards in San Francisco. Sunday night @ California Billiards in Mountain View. Family Billiards CANCEL ALL THERE USPPA TOURNAMENT and California Billiards CANCEL THERE USPPA SUNDAY NIGHT TOO. Is there is any reson they cancel all these USPPA tournaments by room owner? Now that Tony sent out email to The Broken Rack that said due to there equipment was inadequat and canceling USPPA at The Broken Rack too? I did not know USPPA have STANDARDIZATION So.....What is " The standard equipment for USPPA " as tables wise? After all these years The Broken Rack was the one room supported USPPA tournaments for the longest time.

I would like to add San Mateo's "The Great Entertainer" USPPA tournament, Daly City's "Town & Country", Shoreline billiards, & Cambell Billiards. I used to play tournament every day of the week when Gene Stary owned the USPPA (Wayyyyy back then!). I remember my first USPPA tournament at the Palace Billiards in San Francisco where I met a first met Tony Annigoni and Dave Piona...ahhh, brings back great memories!
