Louie Roberts Award -

With respect, how did Louie Roberts pass away? From the stories, I would have liked to have seen him play. I think there are a few accu-stats matches with him.
 
Fatboy played Bartrum and a guy named Kiko $10/game before he got sick. I hope he is getting some consideration :).

I service a small local market store in Mesa, AZ.

I was talking sports with the owner and he made mention of Pool on ESPN..."I said hey don't knock pool...I am a pool player"

He said that there was this really nice guy that came in almost every day to buy cigarettes and shoot the breeze..He had heard this guy was pretty good at pool.......He did not say how he found out...but he said that one day the guy committed suicide.

I said...you must be talking about Louie Roberts.....He said..."Yeah..thats him"...He asked me....."Was he pretty good at pool?" ....I confirmed that ....yes.....he was "pretty good" at pool.

I went on to tell him that Louie was the first ever person I played in any pool tournament..It was a weekly open tournament at Kolby's many years ago....I did not know the first thing about pool.....and had not yet seen TCOM.....but I wanted to play in the tournament....Louie beat me 10 to nothing...I shot about three times the whole set and never made a ball.......It was not until a few weeks later when the news spread that I found out just who St. Louis Louie was.

Did he commit suicide, many would argue that, although that was the official finding it doesn't mean it was true.

I really don't know for 100% positive....but it was very strange that someone that really did not know pool at all (this store owner) would bring up the exact "story" of what happened.

He also knew the "method" used for the suicide...(I did not feel the need to be graphic when I posted)

Obviously...what I posted is 100% hearsay...and I have no knowledge (other than hearsay) of what happened.

Louie Roberts was most probally murdered in the Las Vegas Hotel room he was staying, he had a very large money match schueld for that evening or next day, I think you blow your brains out after the big match, not before it, but know one knows for sure.
