Butt/Shaft ???

Trying to learn...does the butt of the cue matter much, or is it all in the shaft?

I have a nice Lucasi, and what is supposed to be very nice Predator P2 that came with the Z2 shaft.

Not sure that the Z2 shaft doesn't feel as good or better with the Lucasi butt over the P2 shaft? Really...not good enough to tell.

???

HERE IS MY THINKING

If you can buy an LD shaft that will fit any cue, the but is only there to move the shaft around.

Use whatever but you want

Scott it can be either one, if you know how to use the shaft you get the necessary results, and with butts it is all in how you grip them, I would recommend holding on loosely for maximum effect.!

I believe that the answer to the OP's question is...

Yes, the butt does matter if you are talking about the perceived "hit" of the cue.

In other words, take a shaft and attach to butt "A"... hit a few balls. The take the shaft and attach it to butt "B". The hit will vary. Perhaps not a lot... but it will not be identical imo.

If I have mis-interpreted the OP's question, kindly disregard.
